Hands down the best beach in NYC. Its also the 2nd longest boardwalk in country. If you like to surf, ride your bike or just take a leisurely stroll along the shoreline, Rockaway Beach is the place for you. Great concessions food choices too.

Rockaway is a beautiful beach! Clean, great waves! It has a parking lot. There are ittle shops along the boardwalk, food, drinks & occasional live music & dancing. You can get to it easily via train or ferry if you don't have a car. I recommend ferry if you don't drive, the ride is awesome with fantastic views along the way & pretty quick. Family friendly.

The whole (even the nature preserve) boardwalk has been getting crowded. It's getting harder to ride your bike on the weekends without having to stop a few times because of someone not paying attention even in the bike lanes. I've lived in Rockaway a long time about 2yrs before Rockaway Playland closed down, and it's getting as crowded as it was back then. 12/09/23 Work on the Cement Seawall (I'm not sure what to call it?) has took off the past few months. Today 📸.

I went around 3: 00pm so the beach was basically empty which was nice. I actually got in the water which was cold at first but then it was good. Nice waves to listen to while I sat in my chair. The one con is that there was no lifeguard at the section that I went to. People went in the water but there was this guy going around on his ATV blowing his whistle telling everyone to get out. Total bummer. They need to spread those lifeguards that they do have out so everyone has access to the water not just certain sections.

Rockaway Beach is where it’s at! They have a beautiful boardwalk, you can do whatever you want there. Roller blades, skates, bike riding, anything to enjoy yourself and admire nature. Just come out and have fun! Friendly people on the boardwalk. It’s beautiful!

Not the greatest beach I've been to but nice enough! They offer surfing lessons which is always fun to watch! (One day I'll try it myself). Beach is clean and they always have staff patrolling

Do not want to advertise. It's so nicely clean and quiet. Easy access from Manhattan. A lot of visitors on a weekend. Like it quiet on a middle week.

The beach is clean, small waves and perfect to go with kids and there are restrooms and showers near.

Pretty damn nice for a beach within the New York City limits that you can get to by both bus and subway. It's a bit of schlep but it's a real ocean beach (unlike Coney Island).

We love this beach... Rippers burgers are amazing, perfectly cooked, we were pleasantly surprised. The water is warm right now and everyone does a great job of social distancing.

The beach is very clean and well maintained. The surf was huge today thanks to Hurricane Dorian and there were tons of surfers on the water.

Lots of action. Very nicely mixed crowd from you to elderly and various cultures all getting along well. Gave it 3 stars because parking is very difficult to get and I saw cars getting ticketed on a Sunday.

I lived here about 14 yrs . It's nice in the summer.. cool breeze and winter can be a bit chilling. Hell cold but it's Far Away.. lol

Much better than the crowded Coney Island or the Brighton Beach.

This is NY beach going at its finest , it's like leaving the city for a while every time I go, the water is crystal clear despite what most believe and the beach is only as dirty as ya fellow new yorkers leave it , it gets cleaned daily , I've also seen dolphins jumping out of the water and a whale breach the surface

Amazing sunrises and spectacular sunsets. Wide beaches and grassy dunes. Parks Dept keeps it clean so you keep it clean. Two surfing beaches. New boardwalk with benches. New skate park. In the summer stay east of Beach 87th St for less crowds.

Rockaway beach boardwalk was clean, not crowded considering it was a holiday weekend. The beach was nice also. Almost everyone was wearing a mask and distancing themselves apart.

I really enjoyed my time there with my son. The waves kept coming in and as they hurried to shore I made my son ride them, he had a blast. The beach is well kept. Security walks along the beach monitoring what's going on. There's also a few spots right there at the beach where you could get something to much on or even have a drink by yourself or with a few friends. There are seats while you have something to eat and or drink. Lovely.

Love this beach so much ! Accessible by subway, you can swim and surf during summer, water is pretty hot. Lots of space, beautiful sand, some shops around if you need food and drinks.

I was here at night and got to see the birds playing in the water on an empty beach. Also saw mussels in the sand. They tickle your feet! Very clean

New York City’s gem of a beach. Nothing better than riding out to the Rockaway’s and immediately seeing the Atlantic Ocean. The community is a bit hipsterish but there are also great new places to eat and enjoy. Walk the boardwalk, it is very different than what it was before Hurricane Sandy. And you don’t have to pay to go on the beach unlike other states close by.

It was a superb beach indeed. My husband and I spent our 3rd anniversary here. We enjoyed the beautiful view. It was the perfect place to catch a few rays and relax to the maximum extent. Highly recommended!
