I had such high hopes for this place because of the incredible reviews, but it was a complete disaster. I ordered two omelets for brunch for pickup. We got there on time for our pickup time and we had to wait an additional 20 minutes. Not only was this inconvenient, but the staff was incredibly rude and unapologetic. It was a 'cheap eat' so we let it go. I started to eat the omelet and noticed it was completely inedible. My partner ordered an omelet and the eggs and ham were undercooked. Also, both of our potatoes were not fully cooked, basically raw and INEDIBLE. After a few bites, I noticed TWO HAIRS in my potatoes. To say I was absolutely disgusted was an understatement. I immediately called the restaurant because clearly there are food violations here and don't want anyone else to get sick. They politely said they would refund the order which I appreciated. Almost a week later and they have yet to refund the order. Not only was this a traumatic, disgusting situation but they didn't keep their word. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Such a cute diner. Apparently it’s been here for more than 30 years! I had kingkong and it was a lot of food but really good. My son had pancakes and they were so good, too.

The atmosphere is awesome if you love old school no fuss type diners! It's like going back in time, in a good way! The food is for real, homemade and delicious 😋 Went twice in the same week for breakfast. Get the pancakes! Go early or be prepared to stand outside and wait. Don't worry, it moves quickly and is worth the wait!

Proper old school diner in the Chelsea / Flower District area. This place is small with a counter and only a couple small tables so there might be a wait when you arrive. Typical diner food available for breakfast. All made fresh at order and done really well. Just FYI There is no free refills for ice coffee but plain coffee you can get refills. What is also great is that this place is not over priced like many of the diners these days. We would even travel from UWS to come for breakfast here.

Loved this place! Delicious blueberry pancakes, friendly service, and well priced. We were here quite early and got a table immediately. The food also arrived very fast. The pancakes were really good, the portions are very large. The vibe is great and feels very authentic.

You go for the experience and the atmosphere. Food comes out fast and it is just fine. Fills you up. Nearly everything on the menu comes with a complementary coffee or tea. It’s a classic nyc diner experience with very limited seating. We couldn’t find Johnny, though.

Ventured out in the morning while the wife was still sleeping. I wanted a diner style breakfast experience and this place delivered. Got the eggs, bacon, fried potatoes, and toast. It was delicious, and the coffee was great as well. Lot of regulars that the workers knew, which is always a good sign. If you want a good breakfast while in the city, stop here!

Literally an NYC staple, Johny's been here for about 20 years and has seen many businesses come and go, many new shops opening up on his block and it's cool to see that they survived 2020. The Food is on point— there's nothing more to talk about unless it was horrible. It's a small space so it feels kind of intimate when your eating with a friend. Johny's usually working the floor but If he's free, ask him about the stores history, apparently his dad had a business on that same block too. Rich NYC history and the food slaps.

the luncheonette / diner scene has been fading from the memories and mouths of New Yorkers for the last two decades. thankfully, Johny's Luncheonette is keeping the experience alive and filling hungry stomachs accordingly with delicious calories since 1995. the space is superclean, brightly lit, and possesses a simple welcoming vibe and decor. most seats are at the counter bar with a few tables in the back. Johny's does takeout as well as delivery via food apps, too. it is a small space, so there might be a wait during busier eating hours--open from 8 am to 3:30 pm. i was here around 11ish on a weekday...no wait at all. order at the counter, your eats are made practically in front of you, eat away, and pay at the counter. recently got a bacon, eggs, and cheese sandwich (2 eggs--protein bruh)--it comes with one cup of coffee. the bacon was plentiful and cooked to crispness with some give, which is really how all bacon should be cooked, the eggs were fully cooked through, but nice and soft (not rubbery), the cheese was melty, and the roll was pillowy and tasted fresh (not old). the breakfast sandwich was satisfying, had all those savory elements, and was the comfort food that i needed as a late breakfast. normally i ask for the roll to be toasted and salt and pepper, perhaps next time i will...but the breakfast sandwich was everything you want--protein, dairy, and fat, wrapped in carbs. the coffee was a solid cup of hot caffeine--nothing special but nothing lacking either. the menu is a mix of other breakfast sandwiches and platters, lots of lunch items from the grill, cold food options as well and more. the menu does have a lot of variety without being too overwhelming. simple ingredients transformed into simply tasty options. my bacon, egg, and cheese sando with coffee was $5.25 + tax + tip. the service is friendly and chatty. it's a good vibe and provides a much needed element that's been lost in dining rooms nowadays. so after i paid, i realized i was charged wrong for my meal. mistakes happen (got charged $6,25 + tax + tip) and i ended up paying a little more for my meal because i paid in cash not by card and i guess the dude who settled my check misread a "5" for a "6." no biggie, as a little extra going to a local business is not a bad thing, but it is a reminder that they do have a $10 minimum on credit/debit...hence why i still carry cash.

At the first look you may thing you should try another place, especially if it’s raining and there’s a line to get inside. But we decided to stay and WHAT A RIGHT DECISION! Classic American experience with a lovely staff. Best pancakes we had in nyc and the potatoes with eggs in the roll was the cherry on the top!

This place is a gem, we’re so glad we came here for the true American experience. We had the ‘Big Man’s Breakfast’ which filled us up for the whole day. Definitely recommend!

Traditional American breakfast at it's best in Chelsea, NYC! Service was fast and excellent. They split their sausages lengthwise and press them on the grill—exactly how I do it at home! The pancakes were light and fluffy, the coffee was simple but very good, and the eggs were made just how I wanted them. We tried to come earlier during our trip but the place was packed by 9am. We arrived just before they opened today and there were already two other parties waiting. Glad we were able to make it to Johny's before we left NYC!

A tiny diner with a long service counter to sit at and a few tables. There was only one guy working but he was funny and quick. We got to watch him prepare all the food and serve everyone. It closes at 2.30pm and we got there around 2pm. It was still busy. They had run out of some ingredients, but the lone worker was able to figure out alternatives. An authentic New York dining experience.

My husband and I were visiting the city to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. On the day we were to head home, we found this spot on google and decided to walk in the rain, hop on a subway, and wait in the rain some more to try it. I'm so glad we did. First off, it's such a charming place... it definitely has a classic, tiny diner vibe. The efficiency and no nonsense attitude of these guys was awesome to see. They were polite, but straight to the point when people tried to crowd the joint. As for the food, I had the breakfast burrito and it was so delicious! Spouse had pancakes and said they were great. This is definitely a spot I'd head back to if we make it back to the city again! 👌🏼

I have never been to a diner that I wanted to eat at everyday. We did just that! The food was amazing; cooked right in front of you. We received NY style customer service, and once we got used to that, everything was awesome. I highly recommend stopping by for a bite but keep in mind, they close at 2:30pm.

I have to say this is a great place to have breakfast in NYC, the place is smaller max 25 people inside can fit, but the breakfast are another experience, the Italian omelet dish was really tasty 👅 this cost me 10.50! Amazing deal for breakfast! The people are really nice, keep in mind that this is a place to eat in about 15 to 20 min due to the small space and also people queue outside.

I went to this place on a Wednesday morning after leaving from my blood work appointment on 25th St, so delicious! As you can see in my pics, no need to do the dishes with me! My spinach and feta cheese omelette with fries were delicious, I definetely enjoyed it along with my two "must have breakfast drinks: juice and coffee". My server Joshua, I guess, sorry if not accurate, welcoming and very respectful to those in need of a seat waiting outside, very mindful about saying he would take care of them whenever possible. I knew that owner is the cook! Very fast im food prep and tasty food!!! He cooks right there in front of customers. If you are lucky, you get a two seat table on the right or four seat table on the left both in the back, space is limited, we all must be mindful to be focused on eating and leaving soon to allow others to try this awesome place. I turned to the lady seated to my right asking for permission to take a pic of her plate, pancakes, and later on my server told me I had to gp back to try them, those are popular in their menu. I will definitely go back, planing to be early one day before starting work at 10am on 23rd. A pleasure to meet you and thank you for your great service!!!

A true "whole in the wall" NYC classic that keeps a "local vibe" and deserves a visit if you're in the area and in the mood for breakfast during an afternoon. Seating is limited, takeout is always available at the window, breakfast classics are always served to order.

This was our favorite breakfast place in New York. It was near our hotel, so it was convenient, but we came back two more times because of many reasons: location, speed of service despite being tiny, the service, the price and the pancakes! Pancakes were delicious. Honestly, pancakes taste much better in the States. They were super fluffy. Bacon was cooked perfectly, crispy and tasty. Price was really good for size, really fillling. And staff was great, big shout to Josh, who served us every day and was super super nice, making our breakfasts better! Can't wait to come back when we go again to New York Might be a queue as place is really small, but they are fast and always try to fit everyone as soon as they can

Ate here 3 times while we were in NYC, loved it. Had bacon, eggs, pancakes, coffee with milk and decaf with milk. It's a small place, so you might have to wait in line for a bit. Things inside move fast from the cooking to the service. You get to see your food being prepared which is a treat. Also for recommendations for places to visit, which was a treat. Ended up visiting New Jersey for a day.

Always wanted to go to this place as long as I can remember. Now that I'm back in NYC after 5 years, I finally went. Tucked away in Chelsea, a small but wonderful place to have some nice meals. I'd been craving for some good pancakes, so ordered a Hungry Man. The service was impeccable. Very warm and attentive servers. Don't forget your vaccination care upon dining in. Thank you.

I come to Johny’s for breakfast every time I visit NYC. Food is ALWAYS on point. The little hole in the walls are always better than the big fancy places. Breakfast actually tastes like breakfast here! Everything I’ve had is sooo good! Great pastrami, eggs on point. Banana chocolate chip pancakes to die for. Everything on the menu is great!!

Great experience at Johny's this morning. Short wait time for us, we were there around 9 Am, and could see a longer line forming up as we were finishing up. It is good value for money with simple old school breakfast dishes; a genuine mini diner experience. I was pleased with how staff engaged with customers and the timely delivery of our meals. Exactly what I expected. I can however suggest extra creamer jugs as we were sharing one (after we were done with it) with several customers, and maybe new crockery as saucers and plates were chipped.

I've had the best pancakes ever in this place. It is a very small place...2 tables and some chairs at the bar, so sometimes you might have to wait to get in, but it is worth it.

Had a great American experience here. Sat at the counter, chatting away to folks. Breakfast and coffee being served straight from the kitchen. Food is nice and the staff are very friendly. Bit of a wait to get in if it's busy, but it's worth it!

We had breakfast quite a couple of time here while we were in New York because the food was the delicious and the atmosphere really friendly. It gets pretty busy during the morning (around 10 am), but things move along quite quickly. We also went around 12 one day and it was much calmer.

An International Foodie Pal suggested hitting this spot before I left NYC. I had a Salami and Extra Fried Egg Bagel with Lettuce, Tomato, and American Cheese. A meal comes with coffee or tea and there is a slight upcharge for iced coffee. They have Splenda or sugar for sweeteners and offer milk or Land O Lakes Half and Half for creamers. This is a tiny luncheoette and I'm not sure what the seating capacity is. I arrived around 8:45 AM and just missed the crowds waiting outside. There is no way a wheelchair can access this restaurant and if partially mobile there really isn't anywhere to keep a wheelchair or wheeled walker on the floor while you dine. There is one table for two where the two counters meet and perhaps a wheeled walker could fit there. So long as you have partial mobility you can walk through the edges of the counter seats. I didn't go to the bathroom as it seemed like a tight zig zag to the kitchen and my hotel happened to be in walking distance. Very friendly and fast service. Credit cards need a 10.00 USD minimum but there is an ATM machine outside. With my add on orders my meal went over 10.00 but even with tip was well under 20.00 USD. You pay at the register where they have your meal tickets for check out.

Excellent breakfast diner with excellent service! It’s a tiny spot with barely any seats (mostly at the bar), but the food is great and they care about each customer. They’ve been existing for 30 years.

Old fashioned diner, open until 2pm. Bacon, eggs, sausage, hash potatoes, pancakes (out from this world!), french toast...just named it, they have it. Small, but cozy place. Great prices for this area. I will come back.

So yum! Johnnys had the fluffiest pancakes and great service from Josh. Even with the rain storming down, a group of us waited outside to be seated. There’s a 4 top, 2 top and counter but that’s it for seating so expect a wait on the weekends. And enjoy!

  • 5/5 Eddie C. 9 months ago on Google
Johny's is a find and prob the best place in the area for breakfast or lunch (unfortunately not open for dinner). The food here is always on point with the best breakfast in the city and reasonably priced too. It can get a little hectic in there and sometimes long lines on the weekend, but totally worth it. Pancakes, eggs, burgers, all delicious.

Best place in New York for grabbing a breakfast in an old-fashion diner way. You must try it at least once. It has the traditional american dishes, but also healther ones. It is not very big so it gets packed quite fast, you might need to wait outside for a free table, but it's definitely worth it.

First time visiting this place while on vacation, and it was a spectacular experience. It's a diner with great service (shout out to Josh for being super helpful), and food was amazing! Then we went there again the next morning, and Josh remembered our order from the previous visit! If you're in the area, then go there for some breakfast or lunch. Since there aren't too many seats, expect a line up and some delay. We got blueberry pancakes that melt in your mouth and are very soft, and vegetarian omelette with feta.

  • 5/5 Fran R. 2 years ago on Google
I had a great experience at this place! It is a small place, with a few places to seat, but it is totally worthy! It will make you feel like you belong there, Johny the owner is a very nice man, that I don’t know how he does it. But he answers the phone, takes care of the grill, helps everyone and still has time for everyone! I was impressed by his kindness and good vibes! When I go back there I will definitely stop there again! He totally deserves the success! You can feel how much love he has for what he does!

I wanted to try since this place was known for pancakes. When we went in, poor guy was working all by himself. He was really nice and very helpful. Ordered banana pancakes and Aidan 's way.Banana pancakes came in 3. I had banana pancakes in Hawaii but this banana pancakes were sooooo good. I wish I had extra stomach for it. Aiden's way came with spinach & roated peppers, feta cheese and Pita bread. I normally don't like cooked veggies but this was really good and healthy. Feta cheese adds flavor to veggies. Price was very reasonable for super yummy breakfast!!

We had a really good time and a great breakfast at johny’s luncheonette. From the outside you wouldn’t suspect that you’d find a diner inside (we found it through some blog that recommended it). You either order takeout or you let them write down your name and size of your party. And then you wait until there’s room for your party. Once a table cleared we entered. We were greeted by the mand that waited our drinks as well as by the owner who takes the order and brings the food to the table. We had great pancakes and omelette with regular coffee. Don’t expect ‘typical’ diner booths, expect friendly service and good breakfasts though. We’ll certainly go back!

I was quite surprised by how small the inside of this restaurant was, but it was fine for four of us at the time. It also took a long time for the food to arrive, but at least the menu items were cheap compared to other places in the area. Was disappointed to learn that the restroom was broken, and that they ran out of a lot of basic items in the beginning of the day (cream cheese). The food was okay for the amount of time we waited for, but half of the payment was spent on gratuity and tips.

How have I not gone here before? We went yesterday (Sunday at 12:30-ish) and only had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated at the counter - happily right in front of the grill so I could see and smell all of those pancakes, eggs, bacon and potatoes being cooked to perfection. I knew I had to taste all of them (and I did because that’s what I ended up ordering). My husband and son also got breakfast dishes - although it was really hard not to at least get one of the amazing special sandwiches that were on the menu as well. I feel like we could come back here every week and order something different and it would take us really long time to exhaust all the possibilities. When a little table (1 of 2) opened up in the back, the so-nice and funny person behind the counter said we could move there, which was nice so the 3 of us could all sit across from each other and talk and share food easily, but I actually missed seeing all of the food cooking - so now when I go back I am holding on to that counter spot! The pancakes were perfect - fluffy and delicious (and huge)! And my farmer’s omelette was cooked exactly the way I asked… with egg whites and really well done and brown, and my potatoes and turkey bacon were cooked exactly like I asked as well. I tried to add my photos to this review but it wouldn’t let me, so I just added them to the general photos on this site. As you will read in all of the other reviews, this place is really really tiny and you might almost miss it if you were walking by quickly — but don’t walk by quickly! Go in, sit down at that counter, and get ready to have an amazing breakfast without paying those idiotic prices that every other brunch place in New York is charging. This is the real deal - and I can’t wait to go back!
