To get here, go to Floyd Bennet field, parking immediately on your right after the ranger booth. Walk across Flatbush avenue (wait for the signal the cars are fast). Look for Jamaica bay Greenway sign and look for a trail head next to it. Start on the trail and you quickly come to a point where the trail diverges into three. Take the middle trail and walk about 10 minutes to dead horse bay. Check the tide schedule before you go and go at low tide. Wear thick shoes no sandals or flip flops. To get here without a car, take the q to sheepshead bay and get an Uber from there.

Dead Horse Bay was once a separate island known as Barren Island, before the area was land filled. But in recent years it has become more well known as a hotspot for urban archaeology and scavenging. Some of the finds date back to the early 1900s but more commonly you’ll come across old Coca Coca bottles, medicine bottles and perfume bottles. Toy guns are not unusual, as are inadvertently gruesome discoveries like decapitated doll heads.

Great place to find vintage bottles for any glass collector out there. Just dont go in the summer. Misquotes are horrible. If you do go bug spray and make sure you are okay with a slight jog through the trail otherwise you will be eaten alive.

The southern half of the bay has been closed due to radioactive contamination discovered in the area. You're risking your life if you go there.

Mad Max Beach. It's cool seeing all the vintage trash from the early 20th century. Horse bones, millions of glass bottles in every shape, all kinds of pottery, machine parts, etc. According to a few books, some shipwrecked pirates in the 1840s buried and lost a bag of gold in what is now this bay. Happy hunting!

One of the less traveled and unique places in NYC. Look up online maps if you are planning to get there from near the bridge, it will save you a headache of getting lost in the surrounding bushes. If you are Starting from the marina and walking scouts you are all set. The stuff comes in with the tide, look up tide forecast as the beach is impassable closer to the south bend when the tide is high. If you are looking for few small keepsakes you will be able to find them at anytime, but people planning on getting more than some random things will need to show up when the tide starts receding. Good luck in your search! Oh, and during the summer make sure you have insect repellant on you the surrounding marshes are thriving with little creatures just waiting to feast on your blood.

Very cool beach full of antique trash. Be warned that removing said trash is considered to be removing artifacts from a national park, which is, comically, a federal crime. There are some occasional enforcement measures so be on the lookout if you are taking souvenirs.

The history behind the area makes it more Interesting. First a slaughterhouse, then a landfill. The ocean is eating the coast exposing the glass. It's a treasure hunt. Who knows what you will find.
