Very busy restaurant, good food, great prices. They make the best garlic shrimp it’s lots of garlic & shrimp. I always substitute out the french fries for vegetables.

4/27/23 Finally back for another meal. Excellent, As always and since the Devils moved to Newark, I've eaten here. The remodel of the restaurant looks great. It was a good to get back for another meal. Chicken breast with rice and fries. For dessert I had the tres leches, it was good! Prices reasonable. Note to self: They have beer on tap...

Reasonably priced food that is very good. We had dinner here on Thursday evening based on the Google reviews. It’s a cool local place that is cash only with a very friendly staff and good food. I had the pork chops with fries. The chops were over cooked but still good and the fries were perfect. The beef cubes had an interesting sauce on them and were very tasty.

Missed this place since I don't work in Newark anymore. Had to visit and they never disappoint. A lot of food that is delicious too. Very affordable. Staff is friendly.

Delicious is an understatement. My party Dined-In, but we insisted on take out as well afterwards. Appears like a family ran restaurant. Very attentive staff, affordable prices, fast service, and the restaurant itself is a clean, well kept space.

They give you a ton of good food at a fair price. My only negative thing to say is, I requested BBQ sauce on the side and actually got ketchup sized packets of Hunts BBQ sauce. Big no no for a true BBQ spot...LoL

It’s a great local spot for bbq. They even have a huge manual rotisserie. Pretty cool, however, it made the place quite hot. Food was great and portion was generous. Definitely go back again.

this place is also good food and they serve a lot just like Wilson barbecue i gotta say they both have about the same menu the price is also cheep and the food is great and finger licking good but my favorite is still Wilson barbecue not that there nothing wrong with this place is that iam a one person restaurant and i stick with one place .no offence to this extablishment. they have good food here Also it's like the same menu but a different place.

I have been coming to McWhorter Barbecue for years. The food, the people, and the ambiance are amazing. And the price can't be beat. This store has been around for years and will continue to do so. It's one of the safe havens in Newark. They will always get my business.

This is the best chicken meal ever. Out of this world amazing. Rice and beans seasoned exceptionally. Side veggies are awesome too.

Honestly, it wasn’t for me no seasoning no taste chicken was a lil hard, potatoes left a nasty after taste we had to add seasoning to make it taste better…but Bc my friend wanted to go there I obliged

Place used to be way better. The chicken was dry and they also don't give the pickled veggies anymore, plus their rice didn't have the same flavor it used to.

I have been going here for over 10 years now. I love their beef ribs, salmon and chicken so yummy.

Maybe an off day for this establishment. I made an order to pick up because I wanted to try this place as it had good reviews on google. It was disappointing. The beef ribs were tough, grilled chickens were dry and the pork ribs have little meat on them. They were the end pieces or leftover pieces from the day. My family didn't like anything. I hope they can do better as I really wanted to give them another chance. Btw, cash only!

The atmosphere was great. Unfortunately, the food was pretty bland. The beans were not good … they tasted like they were fresh out of the can and the rice tasted bland and parboiled… I had to really drown my food and hot sauce… and the worst part is that they came highly recommended from a business that we were visiting. 🤢

I bought a platter of chicken and ribs and riice today. My order was so small. Small ribs and not much chicken. I really felt disrespected..Next time I will look at my order before I buy.

Ambient was nice and staff was great and very attentive to ones needs. The food was ok just a bit on the salty side but that may just be my preference. But the staff was amazing and friendly.

Always excellent and delicious Portuguese BBQ spot. The fries and the rice are always better than the competition on ferry st. Thank you McWhorter for always providing a delicious lunch for me and my coworkers! Huge portions that are great too.

Always a GREAT PLACE to stop for Lunch. Try the breaded Chicken breast, it was Crispy and Juicy. One suggestion to management, but the TVS back on HGTV. Sometimes Fox News is a bit much for a dining Atmosphere.

Love their chicken and rice with salad. Chicken is always cooked perfectly and juicy. Salad is usually fresh and tasty.

I love the food and staff. The owners are super great and treat you like family.

5 stars for VALUE. The low prices stir up extra excitement about the delicious food. The sides are slightly bland and the meat slightly salty. Not sure if it was intentional, but it actually balances pretty well when put together. Remain calm but quick when ordering. The place can be a little hectic during the week. Haven't been back since the pandemic started, unfortunately. Cash only, maybe? Better check..

Ordered a pan of short ribs and they worked with me on getting enough for 20 people. The server even cut them in half to fill up a pan. Ready in 20 minutes, just awesome as I found them by Googling them.

My family and I have been coming to McWhorter for over a decade now, to the point the owners know us by name. Quality food for an affordable price. Family friendly too. Highly highly recommend!!!

This is the type of place you go into and whether your eating in or taking out, the minute you put the last bite in your mouth your already planning your next visit and saving the place in your favorites. Staff is friendly, food never disappoints and quantity of food vs price will exceed your expectations. This is a cash only spot but in my experience those type of places have the best food 👌 My favorite is the half boneless grilled chicken with rice and fries 🤤 Go get yours.
