Great spot in the Newark ironbound, lots of food trucks set up shop, fields for the kids to play

I love bringing my daughter here. I went to East side high school so it’s a treat bringing her here.. we stay for hours..food trucks and ice cream trucks are all around..they have a zip line for children (teenagers break it a lot so it’s often out of service 😡). Lots of playground equipment. One of our favorite playgrounds to visit.

Our kids and I often spend hours at church (especially holidays) as my hubby works nearby. I cantor whenever possible. The kids are still young, so we love to go here in between and/or during multiple services. This is one of the most fun parks we have been to in NJ. In the summer they even have a spray device you can walk through to cool off! There is very adequate seating on benches for tired parents. Plus, only one exit in and out, which makes it easier to relax as you can keep a close eye on the kiddos. I will warn, the ground surface material gets burning hot in summer (you can feel it through thinner shoes). Also, some older kids will absolutely run into you and/or your child(ren), so if they are quite young, please accompany in areas to keep them safe. There is often plenty of room for an adult to follow and play along with their tiny kiddo. Heads up, you also may get hit by a soccer ball or frisbee! Lol. If it weren't for these reasons, this rating would be a 5, no doubt. Overall, we still love the variety of activities and the vibe here (so long as there aren't wayy too many people). An icecream truck is usually nearby, so bring cash! In the summer, sweet ladies often sell water ice for a great price too! This area feels like a very safe place despite Newark's reputation, because it is! May you and your kiddos have great fun here!!

When you come to the Independent park, you get to experience the depth and rawness of Newark, especially at night. Highly recommended, especially to the local and state democrat politicians that promote gun control. It is highly safe area. Duck Duck. Bam Bam

It was peaceful activities were going , am not sure what exactly they were but seemed family friendly it is a beautiful scenic park .in my opinion dogs should not be allowed in park I have seen owners leave their dog's business in the park ,..not where children play please!

It's a small, yet nice park with areas for different activities for all ages. Popular jogging spot for the Ironbound.

Portugueses neighborhood community. Peaceful space. This is where the kids play baseball and all kinda things. Not much of an attraction but if you are in the area you should play a visit to the cafes around.

Place is dangerous. People from east side high school is weird and very off. Don't come near them. Not nerd friendly. But park itself is awesome.

Independent Park is also known by the locals as Mosquito Park and I was wondering why until I got here last year. Summer and Spring have busy foot traffic. If you drive, I recommend skipping around the park, unless you enjoy being stuck in traffic. I personally know a few people with strange habits, especially Brazilian friends that cannot see a long line aka "filas" to follow. Their love for filas is very impressive. If you have a business around the park, make sure they have a long line, "fila" in Portuguese, or "colas" in Spanish. I've seen food trucks and toy sellers around this park all the time. I wouldn't go to this park at night unless you don't mind to be bitten alive by mosquitoes of all sizes. I usually spray myself with "Off", a product you can buy at any supermarket or pharmacy. Other than that, this park is absolutely great for families and kids de baixa renda. Also for families and kids the alta renda to interact with real people of the world. there's not much security and it's very dirty

It's a great place for the neighborhood to gather during sporting events and simple park fun. During the winter season, not much takes place there. Best to jog and excercise during the day, and complete ALL activities well before the sun goes down.

Great playground. A bit crowded at times. But we love it.

Great park, with some good facilities to play soccer, basketball and volleyball. Also a nice playground for the kids

Independent Park one of the worst Park in Newark New Jersey it's outdated small it's dirty it doesn't have a water park like the in West New York no nobody takes care of it the the bathrooms are old and disgusting I wish that our mayor if he has children to bring them to this part and see what they say about thank you.

I loved this place it gave me peace and quite i just sat there in a place I have never been and it just made me feel like I was in a fairy tale

This is a very family oriented park, very beautiful just to walk through. Love seeing everyone having a great time at the park, especially after COVID. Love the different types of food trucks around the park. You wont be disappointed. For the most park the park is clean and many things to do with the kids.
