I visited my relatives in Nottingham and had lunch at their new home. They took us to Newark Castle & Gardens. At first, I thought it would be like other tourist attractions, with ruins and rubble, but it was not like that at all. The scenery was even more beautiful than I had imagined. There is a canal outside the castle walls, and there is a lock to control the water level for the boats to pass through. There wasn't much to see in the castle, but walking around and relaxing in the park was very comfortable. #KissKidsFamily

Stunningly beautiful green space with busy River, castle ruins, flowers, play park and pretty car park, with lovely clean toilets. Lots of cafes nearby. No litter! Highly recommend a visit here.

If you visit Newark on Trent , Highly recommend to go here. King John died in the castle and the castle is the historic building of the sieges of Newark at English civil war. You can have a river view from the castle and it is free to explore.

In a nutshell..... it's just a wonderful romantic place to be with anyone really! Looking at the old ruins reminds you of how things used to be back in the day! Just a marvellous place full of history! Best thing is.... it's free to walk around. 😉👍 Just a shame Oliver Cromwell had it all destroyed. 😐 Ps there are little secret rooms when you look around the place....but they are locked off to the public unless you have a guided tour.😉👍

Love this castle, no charge to in grounds and very pleasant location. Going more often. Great place to take family for picnic or take family. Even if you just want a quiet place to sit and enjoy the day and it's surroundings

We visited to take part in a medieval event. It was well organised with plenty of activities, the kids loved it. Some parts of the castle were open like the tower and dungeons

Not much left from this castle, just one wall along river Trent. Garden is also relatively small. Anyway if you will have spare several minutes it is worth seeing it.

Lovely place. Visited with family for an afternoon walk. Unfortunately couldn’t visit the castle as it was closed for the festival. Affordable car park prices, just 5 min walk from the City Centre.

I visited the gardens and outside areas, however I was very impressed by how well presented they were.

Nice castle don't have to pay to get the views. Went on a Sunday and the castle was shut but you can still walk along and look out of the windows. Get nice views of the river from the wall.

Only 1 wall remains of the castle but its still worth a visit. The gardens are very well kept and beautiful, it's a good place to chill out, there's some seating but most people just sit on the grass.

Lovely castle ruin with lots of history. It's free to wander round the grounds and enjoy it and it's located within the city so it's easy to get too

A nice photo opportunity, a peaceful walk around the castle. Disappointed, there is no access to the interior. Very interesting history though.

I've often wanted to visit the castle and it's only took me 50 years on route to my dad's house in Lincoln! I was very impressed by the ruins condition, well maintained and there are beautiful views out over the river. We managed to park in a nearby street and walked to the castle but combined with lunch/drinks this would be a nice way to spend an afternoon. Free also!

Can see the castle walls from far. It takes no more than 3 minutes walking in the park itself, but you can always walk along the river that is in the castle area and enjoy looking at the beautiful scenery.

Didn't have long as it was nearly closing time but the remains that we saw were impressive... the setting sun shining through the mullion windows across the gardens was gorgeous.. must have been a very important place.

Well preserved structures with lovelyview points, it's free to access for now, so I'll definitely recommend. There are little signposts around the premises to provide a sort of historical context to your experience.

I married the love of my life here, so what else can I say? Gorgeous back drops, stunning location, excellent registrars that made our day even more special. I still have a smile on my face over a week later when I look back at what an amazing day we had!!
