I well set up venue for what the gigs and events they put on, however, it's rank. Walk into the band room and your instantly smacked in the face with the smell of human urine so strong your nose doesn't adjust, it's stinks the time. If the cleaning standards were upped, then I'd say it would be a great venue. I won't be returning to find out though, disgusting 🤢

I've lasted approximately 5 minutes. The time to understand if the smell of urine was coming from the bathroom or the main room was saturated with a putrid smell. I can confirm the entire venue stink.

I had a great time here. The staff was really friendly and the place is nice to hang around in and have a couple of drinks. They also get some really good bands in so I would check out their Facebook page.

This place smells like cracking open a 5000 year old Egyptian tomb, mixed in with some fermented athetes foot and stale beer. Not to mention the added insult of the terrible audio which is set way too high. When this palce is bulldozed, the people of Newcastle will shed no tear, there will be no glasses raised in memory. May the fetid stench haunt the halls of the UoN student housing until the sun consumes the galaxy and all sense of smell is consumed by the cold vaccum of space.

Good security. The Indian guy and the bald guy and the islander and the curly haired mullet guy were great

Really gross and grimy. The music was really good but WAY too loud. I was wearing earplugs (I really couldn't care less if they're cool) and my ears were still ringing after. At the entrance they tried to charge us $10 even though we'd already bought tickets online. Bar tender was not very friendly.

Bartender was unfriendly, they looked mad when asked for salt with a tequila shot. Also the dancefloor is unbearable, it sinks so bad, I hat to leave every 10minutes for a five minute break. Who has a capet floor in a club!?!?!!

The heart of live music in Newcastle. Excellent venue. It has a real industrial rabbit hole feel. Reasonably priced booze with awesome Australian and international bands. An absolute must if visiting, regardless of who is playing. Saw Propagandhi here, absolutely brilliant.

The best for local and international bands. I love the atmosphere here and will be sad to see it go. I’ve seen many a band here and loved every experience.

They are now charging entry. As if drinks weren't overpriced enough we now pay $10… CASH (tax evasion alert) to get in. Absolute scam and will be reported to ACCC

The place is fantastic, but the experience is tarnished by some security staff, that need a bit of counselling and a more human attitude towards patrons, particularly when a disoriented one is asking for help. Please aproack wit caution the goons at the door, they may have low blood sugar and low expectation will be the name of the game.

Terrible Security, I was kicked out for slipping over their alcohol ridden stairs, I was then told that i was showing signs of intoxication because of my natural stutter despite being sober. The security guard Jarrod was rude, incompetent, and told the manager that I was giving him attitude after I asked him why I was kicked out. Whilst waiting for my mates outside I saw an abundant amount of intoxicated women let in and relatively sober guys being kicked out for the same reason as me. Great way to abuse the covid limit to cycle people coming in and buying tickets 👍🏼

My mates came down with the highly contagious Weakdog-19, leaving me to go out by myself, this was a good place to go meet new people, really good live music.

Great venue for live music, both local music and bigger bands, as well as a good venue for clubbing, with 2 DJ's on busy nights when there is no big band playing.

Normally I wouldn't bother but I just wanted to highlight the unprofessional behaviour of your security and on site staff on Friday 14/05/2021. We entered your venue, at 6.30pm and were advised that we will have to re enter at 7pm for legal reasons to have our IDs scanned in, which is understandable. However what is not is waiting for us to order our beverages and meals and then asking us to leave, wait in line outside then asking us to pay in CASH ONLY to be allowed back in to finish everything we have just ordered otherwise it will all be forfeited. When asking your staff on duty why we weren't advised of this when we entered and then ordered, their response was simply "sorry, I just forgot". I don't think this is acceptable from a venue and it's staff, specially when a group of patrons (>12) are coming to enjoy their night. This has left a very unpleasant and obviously negative experience of your otherwise very enjoyable night.

I haven't been to The Cambridge for the better part of twenty years. I thought I'd check it out before it closes down. Being a casual heavy metal fan I thought I'd see the Iron Maidens, having great reviews and supposedly praised by Iron Maiden themselves. They had an opening act, a band from Western Sydney called Avalanche. Nothing to do with the staff or the pub itself but I really wasn't impressed with either band. I do Event Work and I've worked at some major concerts over the past year. This reminds me that pub gigs can either be good, or terrible. But you know what, life goes on

Best club in New castle. Most crowded and open till 3AM. Can go again and again. Amazing music.

Historic music venue in Newcastle hosting live music since 1958. Aussie greats like the Rubens, Northeast Party House, Pening Duk, Bliss n Eso, Illy, Seth Sentry, Pez, 360, Grinspoon, all played here. Unfortunately closing to be redeveloped.

GREAT VENUE WITH 2 SEPERATE STAGES PLUS A SEPARATE DANCE FLOOR, IT WAS THE PERFECT VENUE TO SEE UK LEGENDS THE STRANGLERS ON 23 APRIL 2023. THIS VENUE IS SADLY CLOSING ITS DOORS AT THE END OF JUNE 2023.

Last days of The Cambridge are on the horizon!Decent, old school sticky carpet mid sized room that has seen many national and international touring bands and artists grace both its stages. Its metamorphosis into a night club most weekends seems to be popular with the younger crowd based on the queues outside but it’s best known and loved for the amazing live music it has hosted over the years!

I found this venue dreadful. The ceiling look like it was about to fall, with so much patchwork holding it up. Just a few fans, and no other ventilation, so it was extremely hot. Never again.

Staff was super friendly and went out of their way to help. Always love coming here for some live music, even during these Covid affected times.

Still a dingy pub in Newcastle, if you know you know really. Its a great venue for live music and probably the best venue in Newcastle for variety of live music. Playing Thursday through to Sunday most weeks there's nearly always someone to see live at the Cambridge. Staff are extremely friendly and its location is in a pretty good spot for parking and access, unlike alot of the East End venues.

A great venue for local and regional.music. This is a fantastic venue to see live music.

I was having a good time until I waited for my boyfriend outside the toilets to then get told by the uneducated security guards that I had to leave although I had not moved one step or showed signs of intoxication. I was then verbally abused by the security guards outside the venue when I was leaving the venue after being escorted out.

Great night out!! Excellent choice in music Had to wait a fair while at the bar but they had a few staff call in sick on the night which makes it really hard for the ones who showed up.

It’s a real shame that this venue is heading for the stone pile. This venue will be severely missed. My only criticism is that they don’t stock zero Alcohol beer. Not a cruncher for a lot of people, but due to its popularity these days it would be nice to have for the non drinkers.
