They have no compassion my daughter suffers with severe anxiety, depression and alcohol abuse. She has been there many times suicidal and they kick her out as soon as she is sober. She is homeless they offer no support, if anything happens to her they will be held accountable, her own doctor is disgusted in how they operate there.

Mental health staff were Abusive, abrasive, arrogant, played mind games, lied, cold and heartless, mockers and totally have no idea. Really. They made wrong diagnosis, and followed it blind and cold. they have a floored science they use, that helps no one. They make it worse. They should be ashamed for how they treat people. Don't not go there or put yourself or anyone else under their discretion.

I'm taking legal action against this hospital as it's actions and recommendations cost me my life savings and retirement savings. And are unable and unwilling to provide documents that I have asked for. Yep made this very bad should of let me live alone in my own home don't let them do anything to your family under some BS mental health act or services they will make you homless and try and force you to live with people who you don't want to live with they will do everything possible to not let you live alone or have your own belongs they will recommend that you can not Evan drive to have freedom not even will you be able to cook your own food more hofic than a prison I would would think. Scared for life the moment I steped in there do what ever they won't awser to no one. I have lost well over 10 years of my long term memory because of their treatment extensive ear problems and sleep problems now don't let them do it to your family if you won't your family member to ever speek to you again. Cost me my entire life savings and retirement savings had police remove from my home walk the streets in search of houseing that had the money to pay for but the government would not let me attend centrelink offices to print out income statements or use online self service with out talking to someone over the phone after ad not having a adress to post anything to 14 months ago still homeless to this date that's what the town of Newcastle douse to its people stay away at all costs All so do not under any circumstances try and rent with Lea jay Hamilton as all of this would of been avoided if that real estate agent let me rent one of the property's that I had inspected before this would be weeks and weeks in advance in rent and had my belongs in my own home. I have made well over 8000 complaints to government ministers regarding this the only option is to now take legal action. Don’t bother coming here if you actually want any help or real treatment. Please if you can afford it, go see a private psychiatrist. Medical malpractice at worst and incompetence at best.

Possibly the worse psychiatrists to exist, do not care won’t let you say a word about how you feel before the interject and tell you there is nothing wrong with you and discharge you after trying to take your life via a train. Most recent visit I went to hospital 3 times via ambulance in 3 days when I was finally admitted on the third attempt they took me off all my medications told me there was nothing wrong with me, the next day I tried to leave and a different doctor sectioned me as I was going to attempt again and then I was released 2 days later without receiving any help. They refused to do a referral to a private hospital that has requested one so I could get actual help. In my discharge summary they wrote “patient states she has low mood, patient laughed once in interview about poor care received on previous visits, not consistent with depression” if they knew anything about mental health they would know laughing once does not mean I’m fine people with mh issues can laugh too after trying to end their life. They always preach reach out for help if you need it, but what help is there? Is it being told there’s nothing wrong with you? Or is it being told you have BPD so they don’t have to treat you? (despite seeing 2 senior psychiatrist who specialise in BPD and the spectrum clinic in Melbourne who say you don’t) is it being pinned down by male security guards having your pants pulled down in front of everyone and injected with sedatives because they didn’t want to do their jobs properly? Do better. The mater mh unit is an absolute disgrace and the reason no one wants to seek help.

Never come here for your mental health. They will either discharge you a day later or dose you up on meds and kick you out a week later when your still mentally unwell. Nurses don’t come and speak to you like humans and they have limited activities. Stare at a blank wall all day. Dr Fernando will discharge you and shrug his shoulders even if you don’t feel safe going home. He states “we send suicidal people home everyday, it’s not our problem” . Nurse also denied me a vomit bag and said “it wasn’t her job”. None of these doctors and nurses should be working around vulnerable unwell mental patients.

You're better off trying to seek help elsewhere, I took my friend to the doctor and was given the duty of care to keep an eye on him and take him to the mater mental health unit. The doctor had given him a full report on his mental health to show to the mater when he got there. It was so serious in the doctors words that if he didn't go police and an ambulance would need to escort him to the hospital. I took my friend there, the mater turned my friend away, the healthcare system failed him and he took his own life. Absolutely disappointed to say the least. Is men's mental health taken seriously?

I only made it to the waiting room brought in by police. I'm looking at these reviews and pray every one finds help. But after my previous experience and these reviews I don't want to get help from the mater. I need help but I don't have the money to get help. Our government needs to step up and build a better public health system our more people are going to die. I hope I find the strength so I'm not another statisic.

Legal advice, don't signed anything. If do you make sure you have copy of paper in safe way. It's crimal to provide false and misleading information to patients. It's also criminal to not informed patients that admitted. If patients has some cash on them. The law requires a consented form and Information to that patients. The that temp hold but be return when discharge false give all there money back. is criminal afence. If walk in with cash they hold to it. They must by law if you your own money in save way. Cash to cash. No cheque it crimal afence. Unthic and unprofessional and unreliable.

Terrible experience, please get private health care my mum came out sicker. Doctors are terrible, didnt listen to family or loved ones concerns. Witnessed staff bully paitents, peoples basic humanity taken away. There were 4 staff members that were amazing. Managment, doctors terrible. Wouldnt even give it a star worsr experience of my life, watching my loved one suffer.

DO NOT COME OR SEND YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!! The staff here don't take mental health as seriously as they should, which is concerning as they are the acute place to go. They don't listen and they don't care. I overdosed on over 70 tablets of perscried medications, and they didn't even pump my stomach (which I presume is a standard and simple operation) They just put me on a bed and made me wait it out, while I was screaming in pain. I now have stomach and gut related issues related to this hospital visit. They took away my phone without admitting me, which was traumatic as I couldn't let people know I was okay, or get a chance to say goodbye because I literally thought I was going to die. Also no vegan options for food, I starved, not a dietry choice, I can't eat non vegan food for health reasons. I'd rather any other hospital . I'd honestly rather go to the John Hunter Hospital for any concerns especially regarding my mental health. If I was forced to go here, my mental health would decline and I would go mad, until I could get to a mental health facility that isn't run by people who know what they are doing and actually care about their patient's. This is not a safe place for the mentally ill. They also make you feel worse than you did when you arrived, other times I have come here they don't take you seriously and use your own mind games against you. 0/10.

Treated like scum by Belmont Police and Paramedics. Mia in short stay thinks she is the be all and end all of all thing human. Would be most beneficial if staff had training on Complex PTSD and how to help, not harm. Absolutely disgusted this still happens in 2023. Avoid at all costs.

!!!DO NOT COME HERE!!! They will make you feel worse than you did before arriving. They use mind games and use your mental health against you. It’s unfortunate because this place is meant to help you but every time I’ve gone in I’ve had nothing but a horrible/ traumatic experience and have always left feeling worse.

Although there are lots of one star reviews, everyone has different experiences and mine so far has been quite good. I have never stayed at a mental health facility and did not know what to expect, I have been staying here for 3 days so far now and the nurses are absolutely beautiful and very accomodating to my breastfeeding needs (storing milk, pumping etc). They respect my privacy by knocking and only bother me if need be but they consistently ask me if I need anything. The psychiatrists here are amazing, I have really enjoyed talking to them. I feel as though if I need to come here again then I will do so :)

Disgraceful, worst mental health facility in NSW as far as I know. Their neglectful Staff will just Fobb you off or use your mind games against you, and won't give you necessary treatment. Go to Wyong Instead, or get private health insurance and go to Warners Bay Lakeside. DO NOT GO HERE!

Nurses, Doctors and the whole team that had me in their care were beyond angels. Cleared me up and helped me back on my feet. If you are seeking help do not be discouraged by Google Reviews please.

Social worker seem to be on the money and were very helpful in dealing with our concerns as a family. Psychiatrist was well meaning but difficult to have a conversation with.

Get private health insurance. Seemed much like a prisoner than a patient.

Worst place to go get help for mental health , there all in it for the money , they don’t help all they do is invalidate you and send you home worse then you go in
