Terrible experience. Ordered 2 kids meals which were there within minutes. Plastic label on plate with food response from pub was very sorry. Then found more plastic in the mash and hard bits in the sausages which hurt the children's teeth. Horrid bits of black all over the sweetcorn so left having paid for 2 kids meals which were only fit for the bin. Will be sticking with our normal sizzling pubs where food always seems to be freshly prepared

In all honesty I am not impressed. The attitudes of the staff was absolutely awful, the waiter was the rudest person I have ever met. The food was the worst I have ever had. The mash tasted like flavoured bread dough and the steak tasted like rubber.

Visited at lunchtime on a Friday and it filled up quickly. We got there just as it opened however a sign was put up immediately on the bar to say that any food would be at least a 30 minute wait as the chef had only just arrived. When ordering we were told that 2 of the dishes we wanted were out of stock so had to choose others. There was a long wait for the food (close to an hour) but it was delicious once it arrived. Food was fresh and warm and plenty of it.

A few of us went for a meal to celebrate a family birthday. The food was really nice and there were lots of offers on the menu both for young and old, the staff were friendly, would vist again

We went for something to eat and a drink. It was busy at the time but the staff were lovely and couldn't help enough and even though they were rushed off their feet they still managed to clear tables and clean. The food was lovely and we will definitely be back to try more of the menu and the food challenges. The lady behind the bar was really nice and even rang mea taxi because my battery died. Would definitely recommend.

Large pub which serves food and good selection of beers. Free car park. Located on main road, just off A500 near Newcastle under Lyme. Need to visit again to try the food. Seating area outside at front of pub.

Busy Saturday night. We had not booked a table. Service was great. Thank you Kira. Food came on time, was very hot and tasty and cooked very well. It was lovely. Highly recommended. Staff were nice. I look forward to coming again

I came here for food and wow what a joke. First of all they ran out of cheese which I am still struggling to understand. So a lot of the food was off the menu or I could have it without cheese… then I asked for chicken strips and they had none of them either. Ended up with something I didn’t particularly want but won’t be coming here again.

Pub is normally great, most staff members are really good (bald guy with the glasses it spot on - not sure of his name, and I think the blonde girl is called Jess, she is also lovely!) However, there have been a few times now on a Thursday where a new older-looking guy does not call last orders and then we go to the bar and he tell us he has closed it, which is disappointing as we were never told that it was last orders by him, this has happened 3 or 4 times now with the same guy (the last one being Thurs 23rd November). Just seems a shame as it's more money for the pub and we are in there at least once a week! Would just like to be told or even just shouted from the bar, as he hasn't been doing this so far!

I had 90z ribeye my husband had low slow beef skillet and omg amazing steak absolutely melted in my mouth, service as ever was fantastic. Brilliant value for money well done guys 👍

Manager is not polite, as the name suggest, food is good but take years to get it on your table, always more than 60 minutes. Good atmosphere and decoration.

I went to the polite vicar for lunch today with a friend. We both had mixed grills and the food was absolutely fantastic. The steak was cooked to perfection and the food was so tasty. Extremely good value of money and the staff were great too. Will definitely come again

Food took a astonishing long time to come out , ordered ribeye but pretty sure it was rump, because it wasnt very nice at all.

Unfortunately I'm now having to amend my original review, as we had a very disappointing experience this evening. We arrived for our reserved booking on time and ordered our food and drinks on the app. We then waited 20 minutes for our drinks and 45 minutes for our food, which I feel is unacceptable. The food, when it finally arrived, was good, but certainly not worth the wait. The pub wasn't overly busy and we were not informed of any wait when we arrived. Unfortunately we will now be reluctant to visit again.

Would like to leave a review of the food but never actually got any! Ordered at 5.40 and at 6.50 still had no food. Went to query what was happening and another lady at the bar was also waiting for food having ordered at 5.00!! It was her birthday and she very kindly gave us some of her birthday cake which was all her party had! Money was refunded at 7.10 as we had theatre tickets for 7.30. To add insult to injury we were sitting by a board advertising booking a meal for your theatre visit! Several other parties got up and left. Never again - awful service.

Oh man, where to start. We had this table booked for a few weeks. When we booked, they told us for larger groups we need to order from the festive menu, so we pre-ordered our meals weeks ago. We arrived at 1pm and the starters didn't even come out until 2.20. And they were wrong. I mean like, completely wrong. Battered cauliflower cheese instead of chicken strips. Prawn cocktail boiled with no sauce 🤣 The kids were getting hungry and restless. At 3pm we asked for an update on the mains, to be told 20 mins max. Kids food came out weirdly overcooked and undercooked. Chips were cold, veggie nuggets overdone and tasting entirely of cooking oil. My brother was not happy. At 3.30 we asked for another update on the mains. 5 mins max. OK. Kids pudding came out, but they're not hungry now, just tired and irritable. My family ate their pudding as we were famished. Asked for another update on the mains at 3.45. 5 mins again. Left at 4, having eating a starter 🤣🤣 Wouldn't have minded so much but other tables came in after us and got their entire meals and left before we'd eaten anything. Thankfully they gave us our deposit back. Happy birthday Mum! 🙃

Had a nice meal. The atmosphere was great with a mixture of people having meals and others with friends having a drink. We were lucky as we hadn't booked but were able to get the last available table. Theres a decent choice of drinks and the staff are great.

We had an ultimate feast, chicken sharing platter and some hot wings. The chicken platter came on a massive tray with the food looking sparce to be honest this was disappointing considering the photos on the menu made it look like there should have been a decent amount of food. The chicken wings were all pale and soft although they were cooked and so were the onion rings. The chicken strips and nuggets were nice and the fries were crispy. I had heard the sharing Bbq platters were alright there but was disappointed when we turned up and there wasnt certain things on the menu due to lack of deliveries which meant we had to choose something different. I haven't been to the polite vicar for about 10 years and remember it being very different to my experience yesterday. I thought we could try something different as our usual haunts are more like local country pubs, we travelled from staff moorlands to eat here and considering we hadnt eaten anything when the photo I've attached was taken I don't think it was worth the price, which I feel is important when we eat out nowadays, and unfortunately we won't be returning.

Go here for the special on Steaks that they have on a Monday. Really good value. So far, been a few times, the steak has been great. Sometimes it's a little hard to find a place to sit, lots of reserved tables. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Really poor experience. This is one of our most local pubs so it’s a shame. We booked a table for two on a Saturday, the pub was not full but when my SO went to order we were told the wait was 30minutes. We ordered, we went to the bar for an update and the food eventually arrived after 55minutes. The food was terrible. Burger not cooked. And I ordered the “chick n mix” which was horrendously overcooked. It had clearly been sat under a heat lamp for some time so I’m not sure why the wait was so long. Polite vicar you ought to be ashamed of your mac n cheese, it is essentially a pre made salt ridden cheese sauce with no sign of actual cheese or breadcrumbs or any other flavouring/seasoning in sight. Other pubs in this chain manage it quite well but this can only be described as a slop; I did not eat it. We elected to skip dessert and left. I would have loved to have provided you with feedback at the time but since almost every member of staff was absent from the moment we arrived I couldn’t actually find anyone and we had a theatre show booked. Poor effort and I hope someone at Greene King will look into this pub soon. We were planning to book New Year’s Day with you but this will no longer be the case.

Where to start came for dinner today the pub was quiet so we thought great not long to wait , we selected our meals went to the bar ordered our food Sat back down after 45mins no food!! the young girl working the floor was running round and a lad there were still only a few tables in everyone was complaining where there meals were the young workers were apologising saying it won't be long !! After 1hr 20 mins our food arrived starving by this time thought great oo where shall I begin 11 chips cold peas and my rib eye was disgusting I think they had served me the £2 doggy 🐕 steak by accident my husband had a burger which was cold 🤮 the food and service was shocking and we won't be rushing back shame it used to be great food oh and they had run out of most things

Very nice pub/restaurant. Great atmosphere, very cosy, plenty of space, tables not too close. Nice and warm on a cold day, nicely decorated for Xmas season. Mixed grill was really nice, well cooked, well presented and nice and hot and fresh. The Epic sundae was delicious, would recommend. Staff were very nice and friendly. Barman was nice and Kira the waitress, was friendly, attentive and very quick and efficient, best waitress I have seen anywhere. Very welcoming atmosphere and staff. This is part of the GreeneKing pubs, excellent. We will definately come here again.

Nice atmosphere. Food is good. Great selection of beers. On a more personal note. During a recent family meal my partner was taken ill. The staff were great. They were very professional and helpful. Even offered us drinks. We are more than grateful to them. Thank you.

After waiting 40 mins plus we had to go and ask where are youngest childs food was, then my partners mixed grill (well done) came out like this. All that was said was sorry and do we wont it taking an cooking more really put my partner off the whole of his tea... chicken was like jelly too. We will not return here again

Called in for the first time as our usual restaurant near by was closed. So glad we did as the food was superb. Very friendly manager and staff. Both had steaks which were cooked to perfection and hot and very tasty and excellent price. As it was a Tuesday they were on offer bonus. Will definitely be back sooner than later.

Went for 5 food challenges with my friends. All looked good on the website. Arrived there and the table was booked and we sat down. All looked good. We went to the bar and placed our orders. Paid. And went back to our table. We waited. And waited. And waited. For pretty much an hour. The food arrived and was exactly as we expected. 4 out of the 5 "completed" the challenge. And according to the menu our name would be on the hall of fame. But sadly not this time.
