Spent a vry interesting number of hours visiting this cadtle which houses the Newry & Mourne Museum. The restoration of the castle is sensatively done and gives one a good feeling of whow it might have looked when occupied by the Bagenal family. The exhibits in the exhibition areas of the museum cover the entire history of the Newry Mourne area from the earliest settlers of the Mezolithic period right up to modern times. While the artifacts themselves weren't plentifyl the information in the hself guide system and in the panels was enormous. The different stories are very well told and give one great insights into the history aand developmet of the town in particular. The use of good illustrations must be commended as is the facsimiles of various archival maps, drawings and other documents. This said there are significant numbers of original documents on display. The photo used to illustrate this location is not correct being a photo of Newry' St Patrick's and St Coleman's Cathedral, which is across a busy duel carraigeway from Babgnel's Castle. Sat nav info on thos castle is also very poor. Gps cordinates on one published document are wrong.

This is a lovely small museum in the heart of Newry. We had hoped to find a tour available and if not were happy to go with audio guide. As it turned out one of the attendants kindly showed us round and shared her interesting knowledge of the castle and the Newry related exhibits that the building contains.

This free museum/castle is a great introduction to the Northern Ireland and Newry. Don't skip the third floor that walks you through the modern history of Northern Ireland with interesting exhibits. There is a free audio guide that has many languages that really brings the displays and exhibits to life. Highly recommended. Expect to spend a few hours explore parts of this old castle and the museum within.

Definitely worth a visit. Not a castle in the classical sense but packed with history and artefacts.. there are some decent eateries nearby.

Bagenal's Castle is a Museum in Newry City, well worth a visit,to see the History dating back to 1144. Lots of parking spaces and take a look at the interactive display, also portable audio device to guide you through the Museum. Lots of Historical artefacts.

If you want to learn about the local history it's a nice brief lesson. It's a small castle with a lot of artifacts and other things like costumes ya can dress up in and mess about. There's a glass floor and everything. Good days craíc

Interesting to see the local history. Travelled to Newry for a wedding, must stop site in the area to see local historical events. Really nice touch that they allow children to dress up and feel more involved in learning history.

I was revisiting my 'past' (after 54 years) and my wife and I happened upon this fabulous museum (on my way to my old school). The care, attention, quality and amount of exhibits, around the place was exceptional - as was the kindness of the lady who greeted us at reception (I'm sorry I didn't get her name) however, her kindness by producing a print of the area where I used to live - without prompting, will be a memory I'll cherish forever. If in Newry - go to this lovely museum.
