During WWII this stone overlooking Belfast was regularly painted white by a local citizen to act as a visual aid during the Blackouts for British & US Airforce pilots. It was used as a guide stone towards locating Aldergrove RAF base.

This was apparently the job of the owner of Cavehill cottage to keep painted white. Guided bombers in world war two back to aldergrove airfield. Locals used to paint it various colours, but not any more since it now has a plaque explaining its history.

This fashionable stone sports an all white suit, complete with a white fedora and white loafers, which has put the other surrounding rocks Napoleons noses out of joint. Something to do with it being used as a beacon during war times and canveven be seen from the Titanic Building in Belfast!

It’s a stone. It’s white. Hard to get to as no sign. Walk down from McArts fort on to the tarmac/stone path and continue down past the bench. As the path rises up again turn left and walk through the rough ground. It’s down there
