Our family decided to do Cave of the Winds on a recommendation from staff at the Marriott we were staying at nearby. We're also all afraid of heights, and abandoned plans to do the Maid of the Mist after seeing the glass elevator tower you ride up and the bridge you have to walk across. Once you officially enter, your group piles into a room for a very quick history recap of the Niagara falls. Thankfully, this video is only about 5 minutes long and is entertaining so it will not bore the kids (or adults) with a history lesson. After exiting you walk through a tunnel and to an elevator, which takes you down to the base. This is all truly self-guided, you get whatever you want out of it. It can be as quick as you want it to be. We were in and out in about 20 minutes, took some great photos and videos at Hurricane Deck and got out. So glad we did this instead of the boat ride, I feel like you really got to feel the power and take in the beauty much more this way than viewing from a boat.

We are an older couple (ages 72 and 66) and we thoroughly enjoyed this attraction! The staff are very organized and we felt safe during our visit. It does require one to be able to utilize several wet stairways, but they were not extremely slippery. You WILL get wet! If you don't want your head wet, be sure to tie the poncho tightly under the chin, because the powerful wind from the falls will blow the hood right off your head! We visited in August with mid-seventies temperatures and did not get cold.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this attraction when visiting Niagara Falls, as it was my favorite part of my visit. This is guaranteed to be your most memorable experience with a waterfall and is completely worth your time and money. (Please note that you need to buy tickets only at the ticket counter when you arrive on Goat Island, and you can't get them online.) You begin the encounter by learning some history on the falls in a read-as-you-please diorama room, then continue to a small theatre to watch a brief movie that is very well put together. From there you are offered a pair of water shoes (your feet WILL get SOAKED on this adventure) and are advised to swap them out for the shoes you’re wearing. (Your shoes can be carried with you if you have a wear proof bag, but most people leave them in a shoe drop along the trail and pick them back up when they are done) At that time, you get to venture to the caves to board and elevator dropping 13 stories and are issued a yellow poncho (You’re going to need it). I suggest bringing a waterproof phone case to take photos and to wear shorts because anything sticking out below your poncho will get completely drenched. The path along the Cave of the Winds is a suspended wooden walkway with stairs and platforms. You can get as close as you want to the falls, even close enough to experience the hurricane strength winds or feel that water itself pounding down on you. There’s no time limit on this venture but allow yourself at least 30-45 minutes for the full encounter. You will never know an experience quite like this. IT’S A MUST SEE!

You have never experienced the Niagara Falls truly if you haven’t gone here. We booked the total tour package with a third party tour agency, and they organised everything for us. It was a summer long weekend, so everywhere it was packed. We had to wait in line before getting the elevator access, however this is worth. You will be taking stairs to go actually almost near to a branch of the Niagara Falls. You can touch the water and feel the force. This is magnificent. They will give you rain Pancho and a belted flip-flop. Make sure that you can take a few stairs. The stairs are wooden and can be watery. Everything is worth when it comes to the experience. I can’t recommend enough .

The power of Mother Nature is on display here, up close! Get ready for a wild ride, this isn’t for the faint of heart but it is doable. I enjoyed this immensely and was totally awed by the experience. The water pounding down the rocks/over the stairs and platforms, the sound was tremendous! Be prepared to be wet, they give you a poncho and they gave us free water sandals but I’m not sure if the sandals are given away all the time, but I know the ponchos are. We did this right after the Maid of the Mist boat ride, we were already soaked so why not? Dress accordingly for sure, and girls-forget about hair and makeup that day for sure! Oh, and the seagulls are all over, you have been warned!

The best experience of Niagara Falls. I have done all the attractions and I think Cave of the Winds is the best among them. In the summer, you're under the bridal veil falls. In the winter, you're a bit further, but can still feel the mist from the falls. Just make sure you take waterproof and fog proof camera or cover as our pictures ended up foggy.

I visited the Cave of winds in 2016 and loved the experience and recently visited again with my husband! Imagine going right under the Bridal veil falls of Niagara and getting drenched with the high speed waterfall.. it took my breath away both times and is so thrilling!! They give you a yellow raincoat but it is difficult to remain completely dry in this experience. Initially they gave non slippery sandals as well but looks like that is discontinued now, so be sure to wear good footwear as the stairs are slippery. You begin the tour with a great video about Niagara's history and then take a lift ride down to see the wonder. The price of $21 is so worth it for this experience! We went on the labor day weekend and since we reached around 10am we easily got parking ($15) right outside the cave of winds. We noticed that parking was full and closed to people as we were leaving, so it is better to arrive earlier on weekends.

From the moment we stepped onto the wooden walkways, the rush of excitement was palpable. The roar of the falls surrounded us, and we knew we were in for something extraordinary. Equipped with our vibrant yellow ponchos and souvenir sandals, we embarked on a journey that would take us closer to the mighty falls than we ever thought possible. As we descended the Hurricane Deck, the mist in the air became more intense, and the sound of the falls grew thunderous. The closer we got, the more we felt the raw power of nature. The falls were right there, just feet away, and the sensation of the crashing water was exhilarating. Walking up to the Bridal Veil Falls, we felt like we were in a different world. The curtains of water surrounded us, and it was impossible not to be completely immersed in the experience. The refreshing spray was invigorating, and we couldn't help but laugh and smile as we got drenched. But the highlight of the adventure had to be the Hurricane Deck right at the base of the American Falls. Standing there, with millions of gallons of water cascading down just inches away, was nothing short of awe-inspiring. It was a thrilling and humbling moment, and we captured it all on our cameras to relive later. One last piece of advice: be prepared to get wet! The ponchos and sandals are a must, but also embrace the fact that you're going to leave with a smile and a few extra splashes. It's all part of the fun.

Most tourists may not visit this attraction at all as it is little further away from the most popular Maid of the Mist. This is on Goat Island and totally worth the fees you pay for it. Make sure to go in a short and water sandal or slipper. You lower part will be completely soaked if you fully partake in the most enjoyable flashing water from the great falls. This is a must visit for first timer. Also, if you drive, you can park at the nearby parking lot which is cheaper than the parking near the tourist help center. Not knowing, we ended up paying $25 for a parking at a private lot.

While I still wholeheartedly believe the Canadian side of the Falls offers better views, this is hand-down one of the best experiences at Niagara. It’s amazing value for what you pay. Our experience started in a museum-like room with information on the history of the falls. I loved the interactive parts of it and we were soon let into a theatre where we watched a film summarizing the past, present and future of the falls. The theatre was quite amazing at displaying something I’d find boring in a book interesting through a multi-media display. There were physical frames and effects for things like lightning. The experience at the bottom is definitely what you want, though. It’s unlike anything else I’ve ever experienced and the walkway is well built to ensure you have a thorough tour and sufficient photo-ops. Absolutely must-do!

The view here is absolutely stunning, especially with a rainbow! The ticket is $14 per adult, which allows you to watch a short film about the history of Niagara Falls, visit a small museum for interaction, and provides elevator access to view the stunning waterfall.

  • 5/5 Tati C. 1 year ago on Google
Amazing experience. I loved it so much. The cost is about $19 for adults and about $14 for kids. There was a line but it went quick. You are able to pick a time slot. Once you enter into the building there is a museum on the history of the falls and then you watch a small video about the waterfalls. You then will exit and get a poncho; that is when the real fun begins. There are stairs to go up and down. The further up the waterfall you climb; the more you will get wet. There is a section called hurricane and it is the most wind and water of the whole experience. Some tips are to wear the poncho from the maid of the mist (if you go to that experience first), wear shoes that are able to get wet (no socks), dress lightly, waterproof your cameras and/ or phones and most importantly have fun. *PS you will get soaked*

We absolutely loved it. Summer and spring is probably the most busiest time of year. End of November is chilly and not many people. It was super quick to get in. Go into to y museum type area, then watch a 8 minute movie then take a 175 feet journey to the bottom of gorge and stand by falls. Great pics. Very interesting and breathtaking.

A must visit on the US side of the Niagara Falls. You get to stand beneath one of the falls and experience upfront the majestic beauty of the waterfall. You get to see the charming skyline of the Canada’s side of the falls. Unfortunately, part of the bridge was closed when I went this time, so I wasn’t able to experience the full attraction as I remembered a few years back. Still, this attraction is a must when visiting the falls

It’s $21 to do this tour… you basically watch a 7 minute historical video and then take an elevator to the observation area. It is a short walk and there are stairs to the different viewing areas. They do provide a poncho. It is a quick tour, a tad cheesy, there’s no tour guide, and it’s kinda pricey but if you are like us and this is your one time at Niagara Falls then this was totally worth the money to be able to be below the falls… it was super fun and I would gladly do it all over again!

Wow just wow!!! ¡Bring a reusable poncho please! This was definitely my favorite activity while visiting the Niagara Falls! We had to wait 3 hours for our tour but we found other stuff to do in the mind time. Let me tell you the wait was absolutely worthy! Make this your first stop even if you get completely wet you will be dry by the end of any other activity. We visited by the end of May so the weather was hot during the day and the water was cold. The beauty was breathtaking. I do wish we visitors would be more mindful of this natural beauty we get to come in contact with. Please pick up your trash, don’t leave your ponchos behind. Don’t dispose of your plastic trash on the ground. They are ring-billed gull nesting and leaving there. All the trash around was sad to see.

Awesome experience. It was a perfect day, you learn some cool stuff about the history of the falls. There are lots of stairs but plenty of hand holds, sturdy steps, slip resistant pads everywhere so people of all ages can enjoy. Note on the process: They provide sandals so your shoes don't get wet but make sure someone has a bag to put your shoes in under the poncho so you don't have to leave them on the trail. Or if you're a fanny pack wearer strap your shoes to it under your poncho.

While the popular maid of the mist boat tour offers an amazing experience from the water, cave of the winds allows you to get up close to the Bridal Veil Falls by foot. They are no longer giving out sandals. Wearing proper footwear is a must as your foot will get wet no matter how careful you are. A poncho is however provided. Staying dry knee length upwards is possible if you are less adventurous and decide not to get too close to the falls. But for the best pictures with the Bridal Veil Falls, you will get slightly wet. The journey starts with a brief tour around a mini museum and a short show. While this is not the main attraction, I recommend spending at least half an hour to learn about the history of the falls if you’re not already accustomed to it. After the show, there will be an elevator ride taking you down into the Niagara Gorge. And as you venture out along the walkways, you’ll be able to see Canada and the maid of the mist boat tour. An experience that cannot be missed when visiting Niagara Falls. It engages all your senses and enables you to appreciate the wonders of perhaps the most impressive falls in the world, if not the most.

Awesome!! The falls are so beautiful! It’s crazy walking the wooden platforms and staircases but it’s perfectly safe. You can walk right up to Bridal Veil Falls and get drenched! It is a very cool experience. You get to keep the cute waterproof sandals and rain poncho. Bring a plastic bag and 2gallon size zip bag to put your shoes in. Also you must have a waterproof pouch for your phone to get unbelievable pictures. This is an unforgettable experience!

Absolute must visit while in Niagara Falls. To be able to feel the awesome power of these magnificent Falls is just breathtaking. I was awed at the flowers growing in between the rocks in the Falls, no soil?? And the history behind the Cave of the winds.. how it was built, how many times it had to be rebuilt, etc. Just an amazing experience overall. Very much worth every penny.

You can get closer to the Falls when you descend 175 feet into the Niagara Gorge and experience the power of the Falls from the Hurricane Deck at Cave Of The Winds. they provide you with a poncho along with the ticket. this is one of the best experiences in the world. You won't be disappointed if you ever plan a trip to the Niagara Falls. It is worth a visit just for the sheer thrill of seeing one of the world's best waterfalls that attracts over 30-million visitors from across the globe, every year.

Absolutely AMAZING experience and a “must do” when you visit Niagara Falls! The tickets were reasonably priced, especially considering that you get a plastic poncho and a pair of rubber soled walking sandals. We spent about 45 minutes on the walkways and viewing platforms. We especially enjoyed standing in the water spray joyously getting soaked, and listening to all of the people laughing. Don’t miss this experience when you visit Niagara Falls!

I’d strongly suggest to visit this place only in the summer. During the Winter and early spring this is a scam we paid $12 per person only to get down to the ramp and not behind the falls. But the view was nice ( not worth $12) . I am surely going to visit this place back in the summer and I will write about my experience. ✌️

An amazingly wet experience.!! And you won’t be able to share the sensations. People must be here to have the experience by themselves. This could be a 20 minutes “tour”, yes, but the profound experience and transformational feelings, will last forever. The summary cum laude is when you stand in the Hurricane deck. The forces reunited there will guide you through a process of cleanliness and force. Mother Nature wont disappoint with this shower of mist and wind. This is a must place to visit while in Niagara Falls. (Please consider a Like to this post)

This was our #1 favorite thing we did while visiting the falls on both sides. This was appropriate for our family (aged 6-16+) and everyone loved it. Wear comfortable water appropriate shoes. Be prepared to get wet even with the poncho. Recommend going on a hot day, earlier in the day, weekday if possible You cannot buy tickets in advance

If you are visiting Niagara Falls, be sure to check out the Cave of The Winds. This was definitely the best part of the whole day. For the best photos/videos, you should stand at the bottom landing, closest to the water (shown in last picture). If you are a person who loves to get SOAKED and wants the full experience, you can go to the top, closest to the falls (called the “Hurricane”). These pictures were taken at 8pm, which is definitely the best time to tour the Cave of The Winds because of the lights, and the purple undertone in the sky. Fact: The redwood stairs that you see in the pictures are taken down and built new every year to make sure they do not get rotted out for your safety.

I have been to Niagara Falls twice but on this, my third visit, decided to do cave of the winds for the first time. It was fantastic! Was it worth $21 per person? For us, yes. You really do get a unique perspective of the American falls And are so close you can almost touch them… Until of course you get to the hurricane deck when the Falls touch you! A lot! If you choose to stand on the deck you will get soaked but that's the point. You can also avoid it. We went on a perfectly spectacular weather day and that helped. we also went on a Thursday so crowds were much lower than on a weekend. We had to wait for the elevator about 10 to 15 minutes going down and less than 10 minutes coming back up. All in all… It was a very memorable experience that I recommend!

The Cave of the Winds was a natural overhang behind Bridal Veil Falls at the Niagara Falls. The Cave collapsed in the early 1900's but the name stuck. Before you enter the elevator for your descent there is a little museum and theatre that shows and explains the history of the hydroelectric plants, the tragedies that some of them suffered as well as the plan to conserve the beauty it is today. You get right up close and personal with the bridal veils falls where you feel the pressure of the walls come down unto those below the waterfall. Definitely recommended you purchase at the plaza because they are times tickets.

It is pretty amazing! Prepare to get soaked to have the best experience. There's a portion of the decking that puts you pretty much under the falls (this can be bypassed tho). There's a set of stairs that will drench your feet. It was super fun!

Amazing experience and not nearly as busy as I thought it would be. I loved the video they show before hand and the history of the falls. Be prepared to get wet. We came here first because I was worried about the lines, but many smart people went to Maid of the Mist first and brought that poncho since it is a little bit nicer. Must do experience if you are in the area.

This was a fantastic adventure, and probably our favorite experience at Niagara Falls (out of lots of awesome experiences). We spent two days at Niagara, and this stood out as the most fun we had there! You basically get to walk underneath Bridal Veil Falls, which is the smallest of the three waterfalls that make up Niagara Falls, but is still huge! They give you ponchos, but if you do it right, you'll still get SOAKED. Great fun!

The Cave of the Winds was a natural cave behind Bridal Veil Falls at the Niagara Falls. The Cave collapsed in the early 1900's but the name stuck. You can go very close to the bridal veil falls. Taking a good shower from the falls also a one kind of a experience. Cave of the Winds tickets must be purchased at the Cave of the Winds Plaza on Goat Island. Their web site shows they are providing yellow ponchos. But we didn’t receive ours and also we forgot to asked. So after you purchase the tickets don’t forget to ask your ponchos. In the museum you can watch a small movie about the falls.

This is the best attraction in Niagara in my opinion. There was a long queue when we visited. But the wait was totally worth it. This is perhaps the closest you can get to the falls. We carried our backpacks here without knowing that we would get drenched by the sprays. Nevertheless, a very refreshing experience.

One of the best experience of my life. You can enjoy the falls closely. Try to wear some casual dress and shoes as you must get wet. Be cautious as its slippery and I don't recommend them who are not physically fit. :( Before the trip, there is a show which is also nice and explained about the history and details of the Niagra falls. Cave of the winds cannot be missed if you are in Niagra.

It was a cloudy, foggy day for a visit here. I’ve been to the States 1000+ times and never been the the American side of the Falls. But I finally made it there. It was pretty (but I like the view from Canada better). I will visit again on a nice day to do the walking trail & find out what the Cave of the Winds is all about.

Don't be afraid to get wet. I skipped the poncho and went for it without regrets. There was a cute ice cream shop I stopped at after. I loved the introduction and history of Niagra Falls. I found it interesting. The experience was fun! Although I am not sure why they call it Cave of The Winds...you are outside on an observation deck that loops. It is beautiful. I hated the amount of seagulls and bird poop. Once I got over the overwhelming sight of birds... I enjoyed the rest.

One of my favorite spots of the visit. You're going to get soaked. Please forgive the water on my GoPro lens. This was just incredibly awesome. The winds got so strong and the force of the water is just beautiful. A lot of stairs but worth the climb to see the fall at different angles. Every level was so unique.

What an unforgettable experience! You will get wet. Bring a plastic bag for your cell phone if you want to bring it along. There was about an hour’s worth of lines throughout the experience on a July weekday afternoon. However, they were necessary as I’d imagine the park did not want to many people out on the boardwalks. This experience makes for a wonderful compliment to the Maid of the Mist tours. Kids older than five would enjoy this adventure also.

Niagara Falls is truly breathtaking, but the experience of being in the Cave of the Winds takes it to a whole new level! It's an absolute must-do activity, and you shouldn't leave without experiencing it. You will get wet, even though they give you a yellow poncho, it will not keep you fully dry, especially your shoes, so wear clothes and shoes that can get wet (The stairs are steep and slippery make sure to bring a good pair of shoes), and overall, have fun! This place is a gem and you can see The Creator form a different perspective!! Quick note: Don’t waste your time trying to buy tickets online, Cave of the Winds tickets must be purchased at the Plaza on Goat Island.

This is a must visit place. You will get drenched on Hurricane deck and the experience is so much fun. I absolutely loved it here. We got the tickets on the site, we didn’t find them online so you can do maid of the mist tour and then head here. If you are driving then park in parking lot 1, that’s closer to maid of mist and this place. Carry a waterproof case for the phone and keep change of clothes in the car if you’re staying far away. Amazing experience!!

9/15/22 Must do activity in Niagara Falls! Total cost per person is $19. I enjoyed the intro video as it was informative and interesting. Definitely grabs your attention. I advise you to wear water shoes. You will be drenched too. It gets very windy so water starts to pour into your poncho. Looking forward to coming back.

We pretty much ran through it... it's amazing to be that close to the falls. It is swarmed with people who don't know which side of the road to drive (walk) on. Yes, it is touristy.... that is fine, but let's just say some cultures are not self-aware enough or considerate enough to not stand in walkways or walk with the flow of traffic. Great picture opportunities, but I recommend getting there for the first tour so you don't have to deal with the oblivious people.

A must visit. They have stair case leading to the falls where you can actually touch rocks and the flowing water. Water pressure is high that you can not keep your eyes open if you are standing closer to the falls. It was an amazing experience visiting this place. Ticket per adult was I guess $30 USD. Wear rain boots if you intend to visit this place as you will get wet.

My daughter and I went on the cave of the winds tour. There are some really good views and quiet a bit of wind when you get close to the falls. They give you a nice plastic rain coverall with head piece. If like what happened to us the wind uncovered our heads. Quite a few stairs. Cost 19.00 for an adult.

Cool place to go right next to the waterfall and get wet! We came at 11:30 on a Tuesday, and got tickets at 11:52. We watched a 5 minute short film before we went to the elevators. The walk took around 20 minutes, but it's self paced. Best attraction in Niagara Falls NY hands down!

A must experience. The place has a space for people with disabilities so they can also experience the power of the falls. I loved that part! Something I didn’t appreciate was to see all the birds and sea eagles flying and p..ng all over. The park may try to do something about it to protect the birds and people. We invaded their natural space so it is sad to see some dead or sick birds near the walking area. The experience in itself is great!

We went to Cave of the Winds on Wednesday, July 5th around 10:30am. Family of 7, ages ranging from 3 to 40. This was our favorite part of our Niagara Falls trip. If you can only do one thing, I highly recommend doing this. You start out with getting your picture taken. You do a normal smiling picture first, and then a funny picture. If you have any small children (5 and younger) I recommend picking them up or else they will not be visible in the pictures. You get to see/purchase your pictures at the very end. They do not tell you this, but there are several downloadable pictures in the package, it looks like there would only be two but there were I think 6. Next you are in a room for approximately 7 minutes. This room is air conditioned and has many interactive things to do that involve the history of the falls. From there, you go into another air conditioned room to watch a short educational film about Niagara. When that's over, you're given your ponchos and you're free to travel Cave of the Winds at your own pace. Cave of the Winds is not a cave at all, you are actually kind of under Bridal Veil Falls. There is a lot of stairs. I have limited mobility with my ankle and I was able to make it through the whole thing. My 3 year old was also able to do everything with no issues. None of the walkways or stairs were slippery, but some of the hand rails were. I very highly recommend baggies to put your belongings in. The ponchos do not keep you dry, at all. Make sure you wear clothes and shoes that can get wet and dry quickly. The things inside my backpack purse were soaked, luckily I had thought ahead and bagged anything I was worried about into ziplock baggies. Also very strongly suggest waterproof pouches on lanyards for your phone. They do sell some in the gift shop but they're cheaper at Walmart. They did not effect the quality of pictures and videos we took. I'd definitely put the lanyard around your neck or wrap it around your wrist because the wind and water could easily knock your phone out of your hands. Even though it is July, the water was so cold. It was nice though and helped cool us off. The hurricane deck was very cool. The kids loved that part. Be sure to take your time along the entire path, we saw 3 snakes, many baby seagulls and eggs, some snails, and one rabbit. There are so many rainbows. The best part is that you can stay down there as long as you want, you really get your money's worth.

*They no longer provide sandals* They do provide a thin yellow poncho, but if you ride Maid of the Mist, keep and reuse that poncho, its much nicer and has pull strings around the hat portion. Depending on your height, it will only go to your calves. (I'm 5'8") I suggest wearing something lightweight. Overall, this was an amazing experience! You can decide how close you want to get to the falls, hurricane deck is just that, so smaller children may not like it or could be difficult to tend to them with so many people and the force of the water. I also read that part of the deck is closed during non-peak season because they rebuild it each year. Also, be cautious, if you dont like snakes, don't sit on the rock wall. There were alot of garter snakes. We saw about 15 of them. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Water, water, water and more water everywhere! And seagulls, baby gulls, and avian fecal odor to greet you when you walk out of the cave pass through. Hurricane Deck is wet and stunning views of the falls, gushing water, and fresh water spray.

Even in March, an awe-inspiring visit. First time doing Cave of the Winds and being so close to the Falls, is an experience. So close, the mist covers your face (and lenses - prepare to wipe), the roar will vibrate your soul. The staff was helpful, patient, and personable. Say hello and ask about them while you purchase your ticket. Take your time, don't rush the experience. Have fun!

If you're going to Niagra Falls, you have to add this to your list Many ways to get there- park on goat Island for $10/$15, walk free over the bridge, take a tour/bus. Fee: $14 per adult slow season, $21 busy. It's self guided, but you learn a little along the way, starting with a short video. I went early May, and most of the walkable area down by the falls is closed for renovation. Its still worth it though. And they were still honoring the slow season prices An extra surprise was learning and seeing that the goat island side of the falls is one of the largest seagull breeding spots. So so many seagulls

The boardwalk is 90% closed (including hurricane deck) and covered in seagull droppings. They don't tell you this when you buy the tickets. The short movie of the history of the falls was well done and packed a lot of history in 6 minutes. The movie is the best part of the attraction. We went to this attraction 10 years ago and it was awesome but this time we were disappointed.
