I've just moved downtown and have been looking for independent businesses that offer excellent food (flavour and ingredients), a warm space, friendly service, and great drinks. Berkeley Cafe serves up this combination as effortlessly as its incredible croissants. So far, I've had their drip coffee (that's what I always have), their breakfast croissant with bacon, egg, and cheese (the croissant was incredible), and their Philly Cheese Steak sandwich (pictured). The owner is kind, patient, welcoming, and knowledgeable. He also clearly cares about the food, which makes you care about it too. I see myself being a regular, unlike Berkeley Cafe's excellent fare, which is a fine exception to bump into unexpectedly.

It's my first time coming here despite hearing so many good recommendations, I finally gave it a try, and I wasn't disappointed. I had my breakfast there, had a very simple yet delicious crispy croissant with egg, cheese and Kalama olive. I decided to try their hot chocolate, it was a perfect balance of chocolate, milk and sweetness. The cherry on the top was the excellent communication skills, the friendliness, the good vibes which led to fantabulous customer service experience. The guy was patient to give me the key and direct me to the washroom and said that I can pay later when I'm back! Thanks!

I ordered a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. It was quite good. Could use just a little bit more seasoning. And it would be best to put the bell peppers after the sandwich has been warmed up to add a little bit more freshness and crunch.

So I was on the hunt for a great breakfast sandwich, pastry and coffee. Folks, I found a great spot!!! Berkeley Cafe is likely a local favorite, opened in 2021 and perfectly located on the Esplanade. Across the street is the park and the sun hits it perfectly. I had a croissant with sausage and egg and a spinach and cheese Danish with a large brewed coffee. The pastry is all baked in house, fluffy, soft, crispy and delicious. I was told you can also swap out the croissant for bagel or English muffin if you prefer. Great service and comfortable seating inside and outside. Will come back to try a lunch sandwich for sure. Worth a try!

I like this spot. It’s conveniently located close to the Toronto Distillery District and they have a very nice front patio. The atmosphere of this sweet spot is very pleasant and the moment you walk in you’re greeted with the pleasant aroma of what must be delicious food. All I had was a coffee, but I got to say, the server was courteous and considerate. He asked if my buddy and I could wait for a few minutes while he made a fresh pot of coffee for us. Service, right?? Now that’s what makes a big difference in business. I highly recommend this spot and as Arnold would say, “I’ll be back.”

What a wonderful experience! Incredibly kind staff, and delicious food. We had the Philly and Chopped Cheese - and both were *chefs kiss*. Some of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had. The pastries are also a must try - the cherry danish deserves to be in a hall of fame. And very good coffee - we had excellent lattes. To top all this off with some of the most courteous and welcoming service in the city, wow! This cafe is a must visit.

This place has a very positive and energetic atmosphere. I went for lunch with my friends and ordered two falafel and steak sandwiches, which were amazing. Thanks Berkeley Cafe for the great service and kind staff. I highly recommend it - absolutely fantastic! 👍💕

Fantastic little neighborhood Cafe. The croissants are fantastic, baked daily I believe. It's especially good with the bacon, egg and cheese breakfast. Coffee is very nice too. Free wifi if you need it.

First off Sean is awesome and very knowledgeable and eager to assist you with the menu! The food is great and my wife and I have tried a few of their breakfast sandwiches (all great) and several of their sandwiches(also all great)!! I recommend the chopped cheese and the ham and cheese or the BLT!! You can’t go wrong with anything you choose!! They also have sweets to soothe your sweet tooth and the cozy vibe is so inviting!! Sean recommend the chopped cheese and I was like wow!!! Stop on by and give them a try!! You won’t regret it!!

This is a lovely local spot between The Distillery and St. Lawrence Market. Great desserts and pastries. Popular for lunch. If you don't feel like spending $18 on chicken fingers and French fries in the Winter Village, do stop here instead!

I chose this spot based on reviews, and it absolutely held up to its 5 star rating! Popped in for lunch and had one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten! It may have been a simple ham and cheese sandwich, but everything from the fresh tomatoes to fresh, daily, in house made baguette made it the perfect comfort food. Impressed by the quality of ingredients and care put into every order. The owner was incredibly personable and welcoming. You know it's a great place when several locals come for lunch and the owner knows them by name and order! Great place! Highly recommend!
