👍👍 I went on two WWII tours with this company and both times it was amazing. Matthew is a very knowledgeable guide and he deeply cares about the subject, so if you are interested in history and particularly WWII events I highly recommend going on a tour with him. People often mention tour, Berlin, great, Matt, recommend, history, guide, knowledgeable, Scott, highly,

My husband and I booked 2 tours with Matt (Seelow Heights and Sachsenhausen) during our visit to Berlin. They were amazing and well worth the money to have such a knowledgeable professional tell you the detailed history and context of each place. Wold highly recommended!

Had a really great tour experience with our guide Scott. He was so informative and really made our group think critically during our Third Reich tour. I learned so much about Berlin and the history of the rise of the party. I walked away with such a deeper understanding of this important period of world history. Definitely recommend if you’re in Berlin!

We went on two walking tours with Scott and they both were fantastic. The amount of information we received from Scott’s detailed account and his ability to place everything in a time line for us was exactly what we needed before we went on to visit museums on our own. He had so much knowledge and delivered it in such a way that it was easily absorbed. He also gave us further information to help us sort out what we should do next. Thank you so much Scott. Matthew put together 2 brilliant tours for us last weekend - we couldn't have enjoyed them more. He is extremely knowledgeable and showed us parts of Berlin we couldn't have dreamt of seeing, including discovering the memorial headstone of a relation - a very special moment. We couldn't recommend Matt and his team more highly - he was great fun to be with and made our visit to Berlin truly memorable and very special. Thank you Matthew and we hope to see you next time we're in Berlin!

I have taken two tours with Matthew Menneke, owner and originator of On the Front Tours. The first was a small-group tour to the Seelow Heights battlefield area east of Berlin and the second was a private, day-long tour to sites around the city that I have read about over the years but are not on the usual tourist routes. For example, I wanted to visit the Ploetzensee prison location, which is hard to find for an English-speaking tourist who walks with a cane. Both were excellent for an armchair World War II historian like myself. Matthew is an Australian of German descent who has turned his interest in World War II into this small business. He has made Berlin home for himself and his family. He prepares well with pictures and maps showing the sites being visited. Speaking English, he understands all questions and references. He sees bullet holes and other remaining evidence of the Battle of Berlin that brought World War II to an end and set the stage for the Cold War. Whether you are making your first visit to Berlin or have become an armchair historian like myself, you will learn a lot seeing the city and environs with Matthew.

I would highly recommend this company to anyone who has an interest in WWII or general military history. The guide, Matt, is more than accommodating with snacks, coffee and the drive out and will never leave you with a dull moment. As someone with a history and general military history background, Matt has a great photographic memory that tells the narrative of the battles almost as a story that leaves you with a great visualisation of the final days of the Soviet advance on Berlin. In addition to the vast amount of knowledge that Matt carries about the conflict surrounding the German capital at the end of WWII, he also has a great sense of the impact that it had on German and local culture. While on his trip for Seelow Heights, Matt outlines the full strategic battle from both sides and takes you to major locations of the battle. It will also culminates with a great lunch of German country cuisine. You will be left in awe and will not regret the full day trip (make sure you are prepared for the weather as you will be walking a few times). If you are not one for military history, you are still left with beautiful views and great food for those who want to get outside of Berlin. If you are someone who wants this kind of tour and a guide who is more than thorough ,and will actually talk about the war in Germany, in addition to his connections to staff who preserve some of these areas and monuments, than Matt is your guy. If I get another chance, I will definitely return for more of his war tours for the area, if not just for the great conversation. (Yes I've posted this review twice because it was that good!)

I have joined the Seelow heights tour with Matt and it was one of the best "Let's do it" decisions I have ever made. I was able to disconnect fully from my stressful life in Berlin and really enjoy the day. We started the trip, the ride was so comfortable and once we started Matt brought us to his world with interesting stories about the History of Berlin during the War. Next, we visited the museum to take a look at the equipment and then we visited different spots of the Battlefield while Matt visualizing the story and explaining the strategies of each side which was really exciting to know and see in the real spot. We also had an amazing chat and a delicious meal (except the broccoli 😅) in a nice restaurant at the end of the day and went back to the spot in Berlin. So, if you interested in the history of Europe and WWII, want to disconnect for a day. :) I highly recommend this tour for you and feel free to ask him about the topic, I can confirm that he read a lot about it 😄 It's also in English, which is a rare thing in Germany 🤕😅

Matthew was a great guide and we loved his Hitler’s Berlin tour! He was very informative and broke down the rise and fall of the third reich with great detail. We all walked away from the tour feeling way more knowledgeable about Berlin during WW2.

(Translated by Google) Hi Matt, a great tour. Very informative and educational. We got to know a very committed Australian who is very familiar with history and has shown me a lot of new things despite being prepared. It was fun and a nice day. Although rain was predicted, we ended the day in sunshine. All the best and maybe see you soon.
