It's worth a trip for the beauty of the museum. A must for educational institutions . One can learn and understand a lot about the tree, the wood obtained from it and various byproducts made out of teakwood, especially in Kerala. Many traditional furniture, which are rarely in use nowadays, can be seen here. Unfortunately, a few items are either modified to look good or not real wood at all. Beautiful well maintained garden, try to spend some time here for the fresh air.

It's one of the must visit places in Kerala for sure. Besides the well maintained Teak Museum, the Bio- resources Nature Park is the main attraction for me. I will visit again to enjoy the nature park for sure. I would recommend to visit atleast before 3 p.m. to peacefully cover all the areas of the park.

As a tourist it's a Beautiful location to spend time with friends and family, as a botany student or aspirant in botany they have much more to get from here. Being a tourist I don't think their timing is okay, it's 10:00 am to 04:30 pm except Monday. During the time it's quite hot out there during summer. It will be more enjoyable after their scheduled time. Apart from teak museum they have more things inside like bio-resources nature park children park etc...

It is a delightful and informative destination that offers a comprehensive insight into teak plantations. Upon visiting, I found the place to be well-maintained and clean, creating a pleasant environment for learning and exploration. The museum provides a wealth of information on every aspect of teak plantation, from the seeding process to the cutting of trees, as well as its botany. One of the highlights of the museum is its impressive collection of centuries-old teak, showcasing the enduring quality and beauty of this remarkable wood. Additionally, the exhibits include intricately crafted items made from teak, allowing visitors to appreciate the versatility of this material. The museum also delves into the rich history of teak plantation in India, offering valuable insights into its cultural and economic significance. Furthermore, the presence of a garden featuring diverse species of plants adds to the overall experience, allowing visitors to witness the botanical variety associated with teak plantation. The adjacent children's park is a great addition, providing a space for younger visitors to engage and learn in a fun and interactive manner. Overall, it is an excellent place to visit for anyone interested in teak plantation and its heritage. With its informative exhibits, remarkable collection, and serene garden, the museum offers a captivating experience that is both educational and enjoyable.

The Teak Museum in Nilambur is situated just 4 kilometers away from the town. This museum is truly one-of-a-kind, as it offers a fascinating collection of information about the scientific, aesthetic, and historical importance of the teak tree. In fact, it is not only the first museum of its kind in India but also the very first in the entire world.

The museum, a two-storey building, is the world's first teak museum and is operated by the Kerala Forest Research Institute. The exhibits include comprehensive information on aspects of the use of teak in their exhibits and articles on the subject. The museum provides extensive information of value historically, artistically and scientifically.[2] The museum was established in 1995 on the campus of the centre of Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) because of the historical significance of teak to the area. The world's first teak plantation was planted in Nilambur in the 1840s by the British.

Good place for a visit and stroll during late evenings and morning. It's open post covid and is open on Sunday. They could have very added many seating facilities with through out the park and pavements and may be added few more shade trees, coz I went there mid afternoon before the rush of weekend Sunday started and it was very hot and only few places to take rest. Really have a lot of areas for improvement. But is still a nice place to visit. Entry ticket price was 50/- on Feb 2021.

Beautiful place for a family outing. Museum may not be attractive for everyone. Still its an informative place. Oldest teak wood is preserved inside. Around hundred years. Different growing stages of teak is shown with original teak plant/tree. The biggest attraction here is the well maintained beautiful garden behind the museum. A vast area of beautiful plants, flowers. They cut into different shapes and watered and maintained well. Gives a look of ooty in photos. There is a small watch tower at the centre. Just gives the full view of the park. Its windy above it. Its a good place to take rest. Children and family can enjoy here. It's a beautiful place with flowers and plants. Entry fee is 50. Toilet facility is available. There is an ice cream parlour of milma here. Good hangout place for one day.

This was my second visit to the teak museum, and it was as good as the first one. The museum is easily accessible via road and has plenty of parking. Albeit small, the museum provides a good overview of teaks and their plantation history in Kerala. The highlights of the exhibit are the cross-sections of teak trees from various parts of Kerala. The botanical gardens, including the taxonomic, medicinal, and herbal sections, should be a treasure trove for botanists and pant-lovers. The orchidarium, fern house, and cactus collection are also beautiful. There's also a children's park and ice-cream parlour to keep kids occupied if they get bored. All in all, this is a great place to spend at least half a day in green company.

This place is a wonder by itself. A museum for teak ! Very intriguing. I even found plant for my sun sign at this place. Its a perfect place for students of botany and plant research. They could have arranged an outlet for selling baby teak plants which one could buy and plant it at their home or arrange to plant it inside the huge area where the museum is located with. But its a government enterprise so marketing related activities are nil. Its maintained neat and clean and has lots of parking space.

A beautiful museum which uplifts the heritage of Nilambur. One of it's kind dedicated to Teak as a whole attraction. History, Politics, Economics and Biology of Teak as a tree and business is well portrayed. Apart from the main Teak museum there are other beautiful attractions like the butterfly garden, the orchid garden, the xerophyte and hydrophyte garden etc. Ticket charge is also very cheap. There is one milma outlet available to have a drink. Monday is an off-day.

Teak Museum is located 4 km from Nilambur, a town in the Malappuram district of Kerala, South India. Teak occurs naturally in India with the main teak forests found in Kerala. The museum, a two-storey building, is the world's first teak museum and is operated by the Kerala Forest Research Institute. The exhibits include comprehensive information on aspects of the use of teak in their exhibits and articles on the subject. The museum provides extensive information of value historically, artistically and scientifically. The museum was established in 1995 on the campus of the centre of Kerala Forest Research Institute (KFRI) because of the historical significance of teak to the area. The world's first teak plantation was planted in Nilambur in the 1840s by the British. Visitors are admitted from 10.00 am to 4.30 pm on all days except Monday which is a holiday. The nearest railway station is in Nilambur, about 3 km from the Teak Museum. The nearest airport is Karipur International Airport, about 36 km from Malappuram.

Teak Museum is not open due to covid. You can only visit the bio-resource park. However, they charge the normal entrance fee which is actually inclusive of the teak museum. If you are interested in botany and if you appreciate the diversity of plant species, bio-resource can be enjoyed.

Good place to visit but due to COVID-19 people can't enter the museum but people can enter the bio park

Quite extensive place. The museum displays some very interesting artefacts like a 500 old tree's cut section and displays relevant information in English and Malayalam. Besides the main museum there is a large botanical garden with really creative and beautiful gardening. Totally worth a visit.

Nice place to spend some time with family. Entry fee - 50/- per Adult Parking fee - 25/- for car Even though entry fee is 50/-, the garden inside the museum worth for it. Wide variety of plants and flowers. If you are research student, then this place can give you much more than you expect. The plants are well maintained and they will help you to get good photos. Butterfly garden is far better than one at Thumboormuzhy, because here you can see different types of butterflies.

You must see the most beautiful and varieties of butterfly, Insects and tree fossils... This is 1st visit in there, but i am satisfied..

Teak museum and bio resources Nature park Nilambur Beautiful place. World's first and only teak museum. All about Teak tree and teak plantations details. You can know about the the tree from its root. to top very much as well as about its seed to big tree formation. Very beautiful park also nearest to the museum. Also have children's park. Very ideal place to visit for students, family, couples and children. At the main road side. Good parking facility. Wonderful place. There you can see many different kinds of beautiful butterflies in the butterfly park.

We can get a general idea and history of teak plantation of Nilambur. The park behind is a good day out for families with kids. The actual teak plantation is few kilometers away called “Canoli plot”.

The place is a must visit, which is on the way to Ooty from Kerala. The place is rich in resources and information on variety of Teak and other Botanical resources. Surrounded by a beautiful and well maintained garden. The parking facilities are also available and minimal entry charge.

Nilambur teak museum is one of the underrated and must-visit locations on your next trip to Kerala. The museum is one of a kind that showcases the wonder called teak in our ecosystem. Once outside, you can also soak in the beauty and warmth of being in a natural setting by striding through the lush green gardens. It is certainly worth multiple visits.

It's the perfect place to visit. A lot of things to see and learn. different kinds of teak and it's product. And there is a garden and children's park.

  • 4/5 Abhijith G. 1 year ago on Google
I enjoyed the garden behind the main museum more than the museum. The museum consists of some old teaks, some antique works made with teaks, history of teaks in Nilambur etc. The garden area was well maintained with a lot of flowers, plants etc. Also spotted some beautiful butterflies there.

If you are a nature Lover and quest for knowledge about teaks you must visit this place surely . Because give as the knowledge about varieties of teak how it is grown and it shows the instruments made by teak and there is a beautiful butterfly garden 🏡🏡 and a top view point and a man made water falls and varities of pond with different plants and we can see beautiful flowers 🌺🌺 here tickets price is 40 rupees for one person and plastic bottle didn't allowed to inside this museum

Place is beautiful, the museum is very poor and useless for English speaking people. Went on a weekend, it was very crowded. It would be great if they could have more clean toilets and rest areas. Tickets for 50 per adult.

The Teak Museum located within campus of Kerala Forest Research Institute Sub Centre at Nilambur was opened to the public on 21st May 1995. The Museum is ideally located in Nilambur where the plantation activities on this species were initiated about 160 years ago.

Good concept about Nilambur Teak and Teak wood. But Teak museum and its theme needs updation. Photograhs and demonstrations are very old and faded. Signages may be provided for easy navigation inside the museum. More information /illustrations may be displayed as a lot of space available in the 2 floor building. Garden and its maintenance needes appreciation. Sometimes garden resembles OOTY. Children's park is just ok for a 30 minutes fun. Wide variety of plants/trees are conserved in the campus. Toilet complex, ample parking space , teashop /icecream booth is available inside the museum campus
