Five stars ++ The scythe hammer is a real gem of Berg's industrial history. There are only a few places that breathe as much history as this one. Everything is 100% authentic and you get a very good impression of the importance the hammer had back then and the conditions under which the workers worked piecework. A big compliment to the museum director Mr. Bandsom and the blacksmith Michael Schmidt. You can tell that there is a lot of heart and soul at play here. Here, history, technology and cultural history complement each other in the best possible way. For me as a craftsman, the many old machines, the smell of the ovens in the forge and the many exemplary signs explaining the individual work steps are a dream. Also big praise to the volunteers who support the scything hammer and make it come alive. Anyone who has the opportunity should definitely take a guided tour. Mr. Gerd ... (?) conveys the company history in a very pleasant way and is happy to share his immense detailed knowledge. The new headphones are also great. These make it possible to listen even in the noisy machine hall. Seeing the blacksmith in action and having the work steps explained is a great experience. Anyone who is interested in industrialization or simply in history and/or technology should take a look at the Sensenhammer (there are often concerts or special exhibitions here). The area around the Hammer is also very nice for hiking. If you come from outside, you can also combine your visit with Altenberg Cathedral. The Hammer and the cathedral are only a few minutes' drive away from each other. CONCLUSION: A place worth visiting. P.S.: It's nice that the city of Leverkusen has finally taken heart and is helping to preserve the hammer. Previously this was solely thanks to the support association.

(Translated by Google) Very nice and interesting industrial museum, that is living contemporary history. I will come again with my grandson for the forging demonstration. A lovingly maintained local museum that is run by former employees. Scythes and sickles were made here in the past. What is interesting is that this art of blacksmithing is over 2000 years old. There is a lot of information about this tradition and production. It is interesting how simple but also professional these tools can be made. If you can do it. There are blacksmithing demonstrations throughout the year. For appointments, please visit the website (http://www.sensenhammer.de/). The rooms can also be booked for private events. Please ask. There are also guided tours for seniors and people with dementia (admirable). There are enough parking spaces available approx. 100 m away. You can also go here very well with children. Whit Monday May 28, 2023 Whit Monday is always mill day. On this day there is always a special tour of the former water supply and dewatering in the Industrial Museum. The tour lasts approximately 1 hour. The tour shows the former water flow of the Sensenhammer from the Dhünn into the Sensenschmiede. It was very interesting to see the original barrier and diversion works on the Dhünn. The water rights have now been sold by the support association because there was no prospect of returning the diverted water to the Dhünn, and the requirements of the environmental authority could not be met.

The museum is overall well structured. In winter, warm clothing is important and the toilets are clean. The tour has many stairs. If there was a blacksmithing demonstration in the summer, I would come back again. I have not yet been able to find out whether the very extensive transmission system will also be put into operation. The Grim Reaper is not important but had to be mentioned... Of course very interesting for children.

(Translated by Google) A very nice museum even if it doesn't look like it from the outside, it is very nicely structured and when you enter you see 5 models on the right side if I remember correctly, they also work. These models were made by an elderly man to show his grandson but at some point the man then donated them to the museum if you go in and go up the stairs to the left you can see souvenirs and other things and also buy them if you defecate in the front wall full of sickle blades on the top floor you can see what the scythes and sickles looked like in real life. If you go further you can see data and other things from the people who used to work there. Down on the ground floor you can still see the old machines and tools. There is also a large water wheel with a Leitse attached. Courses are sometimes offered during the summer holidays or not however there is also a small project on the middle floor to test if and how the people of earlier times made it look like a normal older building with a big brick tower. The building is also made of brick. I think it's a nice destination whether on vacation or in your free time. You can also see a large pond with a river behind the building.

(Translated by Google) Great, well preserved and informative museum about scythes and sickles. It is fascinating how things were still being produced here around 60 years ago. Everything is in good condition, as the sickles are still forged here today. For children there is a great scavenger hunt through the museum. Videos complete the tour. The production hall is impressive. Very empathetic and helpful employees who informed us about the next vacant forging demonstration and booked it.

Learn a lot about an industry that has become redundant by technology advancements.

A rich history of the industrial details from an era that has been replaced with modern machinery.

I am truly sorry, but the place appears to me neither inviting nor pleasant to return to. There is no parking space and there is not much to see. Personell was very friendly, but there are so much better industrial museums.

We were there on a Saturday just in time for the opening. The cheap entry also included an audio guide, which added information to the exhibition. We were a little surprised that so few people visited this exciting museum. What was particularly great was that we happened to meet a particularly experienced employee who took two hours of time for us and brought our visit to the museum to life with his specialist knowledge. His passion for the topic infected us! But even without this meeting we would have been thrilled.

Sun March 3, 2024 - 3:30 p.m A lovingly designed, small industrial museum. The blacksmith demonstration was very interesting. Unfortunately our guide was a total bore. Connections were not explained correctly and terms were used (transmissions, air hammer, tempering and hardening of steel, forging and cold forging) without explaining them. A flop with this museum guide and absolutely not recommended. - A pity!!!

(Translated by Google) The (that?) Sensenhammer is a great location for events. I was at WECH | SEL | WE | KUNG, a very successful balance of visually supported author readings and live music. Excellent! (Original) Der (das?) Sensenhammer ist eine tolle Location für Veranstaltungen.
