It
is
rather
difficult
to
miss
this
landmark
--
which
looks
like
a
traditional
Japanese
castle.
However,
this
"castle"
is
not
the
original
historical
building
which
was
demolished
soon
after
Meiji
Restoration.
The
impressive
building
is
a
modern
construction
in
1995
imitating
the
historical
castle
in
Edo
period
(although
I
am
not
sure
how
faithful
it
is
as
a
reconstruction),
and
hosting
a
museum.
Sekiyado-Jo
(Sekiyado
Castle)
was
a
military
fort
and
the
local
government
building
for
Sekiyado
domain,
which
was
small
in
size
but
important.
Tokugawa
Shogunate
assigned
feudal
lords
who
were
perceived
faithful
to
Shogun
to
Sekiyado
Domain.
They
were
often
assigned
to
important
positions
in
Shogunate
(central
government).
The
original
(now
empty)
site
of
the
castle
is
about
500m
south
of
this
museum.
The
modern
museum
is
not
big,
but
has
a
nice
exhibition
on
local
geography
and
history.
Unfortunately,
however,
it
is
perhaps
not
too
informative
if
you
cannot
read
Japanese.
In
any
case,
this
is
a
nice
stop
if
you
are
cycling
on
Tone-Gawa
or
Edo-Gawa
cycling
roads.
You
can
access
the
rest
area
just
outside
the
museum
without
paying
the
entrance
fee.
