The hotel was run down and unclean. Hard floor had a sticky film all over, light covering were loose and falling out. There were stains on the couch. We asked for towels several times and did not receive. No breakfast, food that we bought was horrible. Parking charge of $20 not communicated as well as $85 charge for that we are not aware of. They charged a non refundable charge of $100 for our dog, also not communicated on website. Overall not a good place, overlooking the bad side of town . Gates not secured at night. Don’t recommend!

Could not have stayed more than one night. Room (upgraded to suite) was large but very dirty. Hair (a large wad the size of a pear) was on the main entry floor. Hair was on top of both rolls of toilet paper (not even folded over like the room was prepared) and on the bathroom door and walls. The floor was sticky and required I wear sandals throughout the room. Bed had hair inside the white sheets. Glad I was only there one night.

Nov. 15, 2022 Aside from being dirty (trash in the elevators) and outdated, I had no hot water, a toilet that wouldn’t refill, and a tv that was stuck on one channel as the remote didn’t work. When I voiced my complaints, they said they were sorry.. followed by cricket chirping… They did nothing to help or improve the poor experience. Each of these issues is an annoyance in and of itself, but all together this is a poorly run operation… clearly. And the kicker is the disinterested, unprofessional attitude of the front desk employees I encountered. It is supposedly a 3 star hotel, but working hard at becoming a 2, at best. Upon looking at the reviews, not sure how it still rates as a 3 star. Criticisms are all consistent, proving it’s a pattern. I would recommend against a stay here if you’re looking for a clean, professional, comfortable, reputable establishment.

I want to thank the house keeping Supervisor, Lisa. Lisa's house keepers did a great job with room cleaning. Lisa was kind and professional within our conversation. I also took a moment to compliment her house cleaning crew. Thank you house keeping dept. What you do is physical work and it is appreciated!

I've stayed at this hotel several times on business and I have to say it just keeps getting worse. The lobby is beautiful, the Black Tuna restaurant In the hotel is actually pretty good and it's employees are very nice. The hotel sometimes hosts fun events and gives out goodie bags to patrons. But the hotel service, location, and attitude of most of the employees is typically pretty poor. The location can be very dangerous over the summers, as there have been several instances of violent crime and fires just a few blocks away this past year. The rooms are okay, but in my experience, the room service itself is virtually non existent and when it does happen, is very lazily done. There's only one channel offered there on TV, unless you want to pay extra. I even saw a cockroach in my room once and it was several days before my room was sprayed. There's a large pool there as well, but it's never clean, there's damaged lights within it, and I even saw a pair of underwear floating in it once. I know several people staying there now on business as well, and of course, there are burst pipes in the hotel currently, so several floors are being flooded, with very little being done to fix the issue. Lastly, this hotel has 4 elevators, and only 1-2 of them are ever working correctly. This hotel has put a large amount of effort to *appear* as a nice hotel at face value upon entry, but there are more issues with it than not. Definitely not a 3/5 hotel.

I made a reservation on their website months ago. I rechecked the price the day before arrival and it was about $100/night cheaper. When I called the hotel they couldn’t let me have the cheaper current rate because I reserved online. Reminder, I reserved in their site, not a third party. I did ask for an upgrade and early check in which they granted. The room could use a deep clean. My white socks weee no longer white after walking around for a bit on the carpet. I also captured a cockroach on the wall by the bed my son was sleeping in! There were two ac units in the room but one was broken and likely leaking as carpet surrounding it was wet. The floors just seemed sticky everywhere, in the room and public space. Overall, the convenience to the Scope Arena can’t be beat and you have a roof over your head. It’s a good choice if that’s all you want.

For the price of this place I would have expected it to be pristine. So imagine my surprise and disappointment when I get to my room and discover hair and filth all over the bathroom floor, a dead roach in the drawer, and a toenail on the carpet. I will say that the gentleman at the front desk was very kind, apologetic, and helpful when I asked for a refund. I refuse to pay $266.00 for a dirty room. Supposedly they are going to refund me completely, although I haven't seen it yet (I just left there). Moral of the story, go to Motel 6. They're less than half the price and at least you expect it to be a little less than par.

Please do your research before staying at this hotel. This hotel posts pictures everyday to avoid the pictures posted by guests to be seen. I was visiting from NY due to a family member being in the hospital nearby. The only good thing about my stay was that it was 5 minutes from the hospital (Sentara Norfolk). Also, the representative named Debra was very nice and helpful. The hotel could really use some remodeling on the outside and inside. It looks like an old conference center that was turned into a hotel. The hallways look dark and dreary. The rooms smell like cigarette smoke, despite the hotel being non-smoking. The rooms weren't carpeted and there seemed to be some sort of film on the floor that felt disgusting on the bottom of my foot. I wouldn't suggest walking barefoot in these rooms. Also, I didn't appreciate having to pay $10 per day for parking after paying $150 per night. The parking fee should've been included. The projects are right across the street and I saw some sketchy looking individuals hanging out in the parking lot. I would suggest driving a the few extra miles/minutes and stay in Virginia Beach. Also, we paid through a 3rd party site and the card that was given for incidentals was charged a second time for the room. Please be sure to check your credit card charges upon checking out of hotel.

The overall feel and smell is musky, as you walk around you noticed the floors are extremely dirty. As you walk to your room the floors feel sticky and dirty. Our room was very dirty specially the floors. We weren't able to walk barefoot. The bathroom was really dirty. We found a live roach inside the fridge and another one crawling near the desk area. We also found a dead one in the elevator. The bed sheets were dirty. We called front desk many times and they never picked up the phone. The room looks more like a cheap motel room and the bed rolls to the side when you try to lay on it. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Also for 110 per night you expect a little better.

My daughter and I stayed for the night after we went and saw a show at The NorVa. Thought the hotel was fairly clean, and probably back in the day this was a cream of a crop place. The layout is pretty cool there is a driveway out front that goes uphill to a roundabout at the front of the hotel. And then Park in is on the side down a few steps. The place is pretty big when you walk into the lobby it's very open and in my opinion has some pretty unique looking furniture and layout. The rooms were pretty clean, they were a little dated but nothing that was that bad. They had a few little business tables and computers down in the far back of the lobby, there is even a little laundry room where you could wash your clothes if needed. If you're going for a show it's a great location, I think it's at the beginning area have some lower-end development but we felt pretty safe there. Matter of fact there are a ton of the rentable lime scooters everywhere and my daughter and I took those to the show and back at about 1 in the morning. For the price this place can be beat. The staff was very friendly. They have a large pool in the back, unfortunately we didn't get a chance to jump in at all. I would definitely stay here again.

Be aware that this hotel is being used as a dormitory for college students. I arrived after booking on hotels tonight to a parking lot full of people wrapped in blankets and no shoes. I did not feel safe. I entered the hotel and asked a security guard what is going on. He said they are being used as a dormitory for the college across the street. I entered the lobby and there were kids in socks, no shirts, walking around just as if it were a college dormitory. I told the front desk manager I would like to cancel my reservation because I did not feel safe. He said, no refunds, too bad. I left and booked a room at the Marriott. I called Wyndham corporate. They said that the 3rd party booking company would be able to issue a refund no problem. I called Hotels Tonight and they said they were unable to issue a credit despite the hotel not being safe. I then said I would take this up with my attorney. They then said they could issue me a credit against future stays, which I did not want. I said this is not a discussion, issue me a refund. Eventually the agreed to a refund, but I will never use hotels tonight again or stay at a Wyndham.

I was concerned, having read other recent reviews but I have to say, this is a perfectly fine hotel and I would stay here again. We were just here for 1 night, seeing a show DIRECTLY across the street at Scope Arena so could not be better location for that. There was a safe crosswalk to get there, no problem. We grabbed some drinks (excellent Happy Hour prices till 7) and food from The Black Tuna restaurant and we really liked our food. The hotel has a lot of cool history & we felt like the whole vibe was unique. Our room was large, clean and the bed was EXTREMELY comfy. We did have to fiddle with the thermostat a bit to cool things down but that worked. I called the front desk for an extra blanket and deodorant and they brought both right up. The bathroom was clean and I enjoyed the healthy pressure in the shower. There are some floors used as dorms with students from Norfolk State and the students were totally friendly. This is not the “best part of town” but the hotel & parking lot seem safe. Purchases at convenient stores are made through turn stiles for security so may want to bring your own snacks and instant oatmeal for Breakfast.

Worse hotel I have EVER stayed in. Not just in Va but in my lifetime. The GM who gave her name as Maria was rude and unprofessional. When I asked for the corporate number to speak to someone above her she gave it to me with her middle name “Maria” written at the top and advised me that it would be a waste of time because they are a privately owned hotel and it would just route back to her so she could do what she wanted. After she denied my reservation twice, with the intentions of still charging me although she was not going to let me stay. She then refused to refund my money so I could go and get another hotel so that my son who was in the car could sleep properly. To top it off when the second desk agent checked me in, I went upstairs to discover blood and another unknown substance on the bathroom floor underneath the sink. The corporate, customer service center and rude GM at the front desk will not help you! They think it’s ok with all the diseases and pandemics going around to force a person to stay in this nasty hotel. It’s beat up on the outside and in. Please do not be fooled there is nothing luxury about this hotel. You have been warned.

Check-in is 4; I called the day before my reservation to request an early check-in and was told to call at 1 the day of my reservation. I did and was told I would be able to check-in at 3. I actually didn't arrive until 3:30; my room was not ready. I ended up waiting until 5! As to where the problem was, I don't know. The staff was polite and patient and I very much appreciated it.

The decor in the lobby was really nice. Our room was basic yet clean, the bed was super comfortable, however it was a little noisy and a maintenance man allowed himself in to our room about 5 mins after we checked in. There was a mix up as he was already in the room fixing the tv as we could see he left his supplies. The location was stellar as we were going to Scope Arena for a concert. We walked it was so close. I wasnt so crazy about the 20 stairs to and from the parking lot into the hotel. Over-all nice stay.

The toilet was not completely attached to the floor it actually rocked. The restaurant food took a long time even though we were the only ones there. The pool heat was not turned on and the manager whose last day we were there told us a taxi would be easy to get however the day we left we had to wait over a hour for the taxi. I would not recommend this place.

I am currently sitting in the hotel at 7:30 in the morning after finding out that they don’t serve breakfast “but thanks for understanding” until further notice. Well thanks for not leaving us a choice as you don’t tell anyone when they’re checking in. But that would be a problem as you do not acknowledge your guests when they walk in because they’re are short staffed so while I am trying to make a 5:00 pm dinner reservation I have to sit for 15 mins in the front lobby while your front desk person is on the phone, doesn’t even look up at us while we are standing there, and then doesn’t even say “hey sorry I ignored your existence as a paying customer for 15 minutes so I can spell the Monticello 40 times for someone who clearly has never heard of google”. Then the kicker of the rooms kind of suck. Nothing to them and the bathrooms do not even have fans. Then be careful if you drive (walk, swim, or fly) because parking your car is an extra $15 that no one tells you about either. Will not be staying here again or any other of this company’s locations. P.S. was wife’s birthday dinner and a show at Chrysler Hall that this room, hotel, & staff tried to ruin. We really appreciate it and I’d write more but I have a starving 6 year old I have to feed now. How come you still charge full price without full service? Must be nice. My next session I’m only going to half counsel and tell my client thanks for understanding but still charge for a full hour. Cause that sounds fair right???

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! Staying here on business for a week. Today is Thursday. October 27, 2023. Everyday there’s a new issue with this hotel. I have 2 more days to go and I can’t even imagine how it could possibly get any worse. In just four days I’ve had to confront someone trying to break in my car. Gunshots rang out in the parking lot, not even 7pm at night. Broken appliances in my room. A/C works 30% of the time. Curtains are broken. Bathroom is outdated and FILTHY and I’m pretty sure one of the front desk attendants is a drug user. This is easily the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I’ve stayed in Motel 6 rooms that were nicer than this. Avoid this hotel. Avoid downtown Norfolk. It’s a terrible, crime-ridden place. The ONLY positive thing I have to say about this hotel is the lobby is good looking. So take that for what it’s worth.

First night here out of two. The room looks nice and the bed is very comfortable. There was hair in my sink apon check in. The hallway we stayed on smelled of pot smoke all night. There were very loud guest yelling in the room across the way as well as coming into the hallway and being very loud till about 11:30pm. Then around 9am there were kids running up and down the hallway yelling and banging on the door or their room they had been locked out of. Hopefully I'll get some peace a quiet tonight.

Reserved a room a couple days before I got their. I arrived at 2:30 and told me my room wouldn't be ready for 30 minutes (understandable check in is at 4). Went down the road for a bite to eat and came back at 3:45. To be told they went ahead and cancelled my room with no explanation. Just got done a 9 hour drive and had no where to stay. I do not recommend this place at all. Still haven't gotten my refund yet either

The hotel is newly renovated, from what I can see. Hotel staff is very friendly, location was perfect for my stay. Although, at first glance the room seemed clean, but it was not. I know places are short, but our room/suite: furniture was out dated, damaged and somewhat dirty. The floor was not clean, the living room TV did not work. I appreciate the laminate floors, but they need to be moped. I'd stay there again, it was sufficient for a quick weekend trip.

pool closed and no spa but decent. Clean room but it smells like bleach. Isn’t that toxic? Oh well, better sanitized than not. They only send housekeeping every three days but will take your garbage out and refresh towels. One torn place in the bathroom. Btw: no problem with the elevators yet. Scary reviews going back five years but things can change: businesses like people can improve. Walking distance of Granby Street so that’s a cool thing if you’re booed up. And the food at The Black Tuna is quite good. Then on the third day! The elevators stopped working. Frightening. Do they not understand how dangerous this is. Five years you’ve been working on repairing them. We had to take the service elevator with the desperate help still trying to do their jobs, and pray for God’s grace . The city of Norfolk is remiss in not investigating this situation. This is dangerous craziness making money off unsuspecting visitors. Crazy. If I could change that three stars, I would. WTH

The rooms are really not great. The furniture is old and sagging, such as the east chair with a collapsed seat and desk deeply bowed and bent. The fridge is loud and has only one shelf anyway. There is rust visible on the metal light fixtures. The people are friendly and they have greatly improved the WiFi, but the rooms themselves are well below standard.

Rudest front desk staff, Naomi refused to honor an early check-in saying absolutely no rooms would be clean until 4pm - unless you gave her $50. Surprise! the rooms weren't clean no matter what time you check in. Unbelievably filthy and at $200+ a night! I can't believe Wyndham allows this hotel to continue to use their brand name. After filling out a credit card authorization at the hotel, my credit card was compromised. Stay anywhere else.

This was the most disgusting hotel known to man. Wyndham should be ashamed of themselves. The local supervisors and agents were no help. Before arriving I explained that I had a kidney transplant and the room needed to be clean that I would sanitize when I got there with my own supplies. That did not happen. I called corporate, they were no help and they didnt give me a refund. The pictures will tell it all. Just know it's not my DNA. . The floors bathroom was filthy and bugs were everywhere. They also charged 100 for early check in #comical

My stay here was wonderful. The staff was very helpful, and made great conversation. At first we had issues with our room, but they were quickly resolved by the staff. They are working on renovations, so I’m excited to see what more they improve!

This was the worst stay ever. Walking up the outside stairway was treacherous since some of the stairs were broke and had concrete slats setting on top of them. The staff was extremely rude. I almost fell down by the elevator because the floor was wet. The inside of the elevator looked like someone opened the pool in it. Our room was huge but the bathroom was hard to get in because it was so small. We had blood on the sheets and the toilet wasn’t bolted down. We stayed 3 night here because I couldn’t get reimbursed and had paid 150 a night plus the daily parking fee that is of course not listed on the website. We had to call the front desk to get our room serviced. Their excuse was that they don’t service rooms if you stay extended unless you ask. They finally changed the bloody sheets after day 2…and our complaining to front desk. Needless to say, I’m sure someone is right now sleeping on the same sheets my husband and I used. I wish I had read the reviews before booking!!

Housekeeping , if you ever receive it during your long stays , is not something this hotel is good at . I literally stayed there for 2 weeks and if I hadn’t called I don’t think I would have ever received any type of house keeping . And when they do service your room they will only give you towels and take out your trash . They don’t even attempt to make the bed . Being that covid is still alive and well you’d think they’d change sheets or be more attentive . I refuse to send my clients here or stay here myself. I didn’t even talk about the smell in the hallways but yea. It’s. No from me .

Remodeled lobby...interesting design. Rooms are good. Super small bathroom though. Pool is open, nice big size. Plenty of seats and tables around d the pool. Not to far from McArthur mall, 5 minute walk. Black Tuna is the restaurant on site. Nightly food specials and happy hour.

The staff members were very helpful and courteous, but the room and hotel policies left much to be desired. The room had several issues; the closet door could not close (too big for the frame), the shower was very hard to get any heat from, only two tissues left in box, found a live cockroach, and the heater stopped working the second night. It is also hotel policy that you have to pay for overnight parking, claiming its downtown location means they can charge downtown parking rates. This was only disclosed after I arrived and was such an inconvenience to try and deal with I was forced to agree to it. The parking lot wasn’t even covered or entry controlled, a sign nearby said it frequently flooded, I would have been better off parking on a street.

You will be much happier if you drive another 15-20 minutes and find somewhere else to stay. It's a beautiful hotel, decorated lavishly. You have to pay to park in the hotel parking lot. They serve breakfast but not for free. There is no microwave in your room so you have to go all the way down to the lobby to use the microwave, where it's usually already being used. (I'm surprised they don't charge you to use that, too.) There are college students who stay there and the hallways smell like weed most mornings and evenings. On Sundays they have a church service that comes into one of their meeting rooms, which I actually like but I dont like being randomly witnessed to during my hotel stay and if they catch you out in about before service, they will witness to you. There was almost zero water pressure in the shower and one tissue in the box. The rooms themselves are not as pretty as the hotel. Also, when we checked out, they never actually checked us out so we got a call the next day asking us to check out. Luckily the billing for that mishap got fixed but somehow along the way they took an extra $100 out of our account and we had to call and get them to fix that too. They said they had just opened back up. I think it would benefit them to reevaluate what people look forward to during hotel stays. I have never had to pay for parking at any hotel I have ever gone to. That just blew my mind. The good thing is that the workers were nice and friendly and worked with us to fix errors made. The location is right across from an arena which is cool but it's not the greatest area in Norfolk, there's also low income housing on the other side, which I was surprised about considering how it seems to try to be a "luxury" hotel. So, weird location for what it portrays itself as.

Not a family friendly hotel. Room wasn’t clean. The hotel in general didn’t have a safe feel to it, inside our out. There is a 2 inch space between the floor and the door between rooms and all of the noise from the other room comes through. We had to run the tv all night to drown out noise from neighboring rooms and the hallway.
