4th time this year staying in Woolacombe. The Red Barn is our favourite destination. The staff are super friendly and very helpful. Food is always top quality and best value drinks in the village, coupled with the best atmosphere. Tell them Steve recommended you and you may even get a better deal 😉

Cracking bar, with plenty of outdoor seating with stunning views overlooking the bay. Great drink selection, with the usual lagers and cider. Nice to see them supporting local breweries also.

Visited on 23/02/23 for lunch. Chose to eat inside but nice decking area if the weather's decent. Limited menu but well presented. Some items seem a little pricey especially given the limited choice. Good service and a little like Nandos as you order at the bar and its then brought to your table. Nice option of tea or coffee and cake for £4.95

Sadly the Red Barn seems to lose a bit more character each time I visit and its made me realise how well managed this iconic venue used to be by the previous owner Angus. Firstly the side door was closed with a sign saying 'please use main entrance' for no apparent reason. Locals used to grab a beer and hang out on the steps here to chat about the day's waves or lack of. The background music was really grating and too loud for a chilled afternoon meal and beer.. they never seemed to get the music wrong before, or there would be classic surf movies playing. There was a blackboard saying 'waiting times may be longer than usual due to limited staff numbers' or something like that - well in 25 years of visiting the Red Barn before the change in ownership I don't think I ever saw that.. it was just well managed and if they were short staffed, they just cranked it up a notch and got on with it! Some of the furnishings look they've been handed down from a Wetherspoons which must've been upgrading. There's also some tacky new sweet vending machines. I'm sorry but this once characterful and buzzing bar/restaurant is just becoming generic and boring.. I guess to be expected since its been bought by a national chain and I'm sure the shareholders won't be bothered about any of this. It's just a shame when a place close to your heart loses what made it special to so many people over several decades. I'll still come for a drink and a burger from time to time as the view is incredible and the staff are always friendly!

Came here for a birthday lunch as a local resident. I've been coming here for over 20 years and yesterday was the last time. Firstly, we waited nearly an hour for 2 sandwiches, a chicken burger on its own and a kids meal. Secondly, we waited a further hour for a slice of apple tart with ice cream. When ordering we were not made aware of the waiting times, especially not for the one dessert that was ordered by itself. We kept asking the staff if our food was OK as it felt like we were waiting a lifetime, especially for what we had ordered. Another issue are the dogs. If you love dogs and don't mind them yapping until you can't hear yourself think, this is the place for you. Even sitting in the "doggy free zone" I was losing my mind with the sound of dogs barking and also the wet dog smell that was delightfully infusing the venue. Overall, an extremely disappointing experience that has tarnished all of the lovely meals I've had in here, in the last 20 years or more. The price for the dishes and drinks were not worth the three hours that were taken out of our day by eating here.

Short staffed and no hot drinks! A real shame on a very busy Friday when people wanted to come in after a cold walk to warm up. Queues formed down the entire bar, one poor member of staff on till, no sign to tell anyone there were no hot drinks available. Please get more staff and a functioning coffee machine!

I feel like this place changes every time I go to it. The building, atmosphere and history is rich and that seems like all it relies on. The food was pretty bad. I ordered the burger and chips Burger takes the lead of the driest burger I’ve ever had. Chips were far below average but the crispies at the end were nice. It’s a place that’ll always do well as it’s a tourist location but next time I think I’ll stick to the drinks.

Walked down to the beach today to walk the dogs as we are on holiday. Once we walked along the beach to putsborough and back popped into the Red Barn to get a snack and a drink. No snacks as wanted a toasted tea cake only to be told they didn’t serve them. Was offered cake but as my wife has an egg allergy this was not an option. It’s nice to see it’s been taken over and dogs are allowed inside at last. Staff was very friendly and the young lady offered my wife a vegan cheese cake which had no egg. All staff we spoke to was very polite and helpful.
