Let’s
start
with
the
pluses:
1.
The
dispatcher
was
helpful
in
arranging
for
a
plumbing
technician
to
visit
our
home
quickly;
thank
you
for
your
timely
response.
2.
Likewise,
the
technician
arrived
on
time
and
was
able
to
quickly
identify
and
temporarily
resolve
the
issue
-
a
blockage
of
the
main
drain
by
tree
roots
entering
through
a
broken
pipe.
Now
to
our
areas
of
frustration
and
disappointment:
1.
My
frustration
with
the
technician
and
the
reason
I
will
use
another
vendor
to
repair
the
broken
drain
line
is
mostly
his
inability
to
clearly
explain
and
document
the
extent
of
repair
that
will
be
needed,
and
partly
a
consequence
of
being
overcharged
for
the
services
provided
(more
on
this
later).
With
regard
to
the
communication
issue,
when
I
asked
if
he
could
scope
the
pipe
and
show
me
where
the
drain
pipe
was
broken,
he
directed
me
to
look
at
an
approximately
2"
X
2"
wide
screen
located
at
the
brim
of
the
drain
pipe.
He
then
directed
me
to
take
a
video
by
inserting
my
phone
next
to
the
screen.
The
result,
"blurred
video
of
a
pipe
with,
to
my
eye,
no
discernable
hole
in
the
pipe."
Contrast
this
with
a
very
clear
and
easily
viewed
video,
even
from
a
distance
of
three
feet,
provided
by
a
competitor
on
a
subsequent
day.
The
Roto-Rooter
technician
was
also
difficult
to
understand,
perhaps
due
to
the
fact
that
he
was
wearing
a
mask
(he
indicated
he
had
not
been
inoculated
against
Covid
19).
I
was
also
frustrated
by
the
fact
that
he
could
not
give
me
a
written
invoice,
nor
could
he
show
me
screen
shots
of
his
screen.
He
asked
me
to
sign
three
screen
screens,
and
then
indicated
that
he
had
lost
his
Wi-Fi
temporarily
and
had
me
sign
them
again.
He
then
stated
that
I
would
receive
a
copy
of
the
invoice
via
email.
When
I
had
not
received
it
by
late
afternoon,
I
called
the
Roto-Rooter
office
and
they
sent
it
to
me.
2.
Now
to
the
charges.
The
technician
told
me
my
bill
would
be
about
$650,
which
turned
out
to
be
$694.23.
I've
subsequently
leaned
that
a
typical
charge
for
the
type
of
service
provided
is
between
$300
-
$400.
Interestingly,
while
the
Roto-Rooter
technician's
verbal
quote
for
repairing
the
pipe
was
close
to
quotes
provided
by
two
other
vendors,
(which
they
but
in
writing
on
the
spot
and
documented
what
would
be
done.
Since
he
indicated
it
would
be
about
$2,500,
but
would
not
put
it
in
writing,
I
figured
I'd
better
cut
my
losses
and
get
someone
else
to
do
the
job.
While
I
do
appreciate
the
fact
that
Roto-Rooter
temporarily
resolved
my
drainage
issue,
based
on
this
experience,
I
would
never
hire
them
for
any
serious
plumbing
work.
