One of the rarest temples of Shukradev, this place gives you a divine feeling of Shiva's blessings around. Temple is well maintained and very easily approachable. Cars can be parked in the parking which is around 100 metres from the temple. This temple is along the Brahmaputra banks, and you can spend some good time with the calming sight of river flowing.

I visit here with my son, I witnessed the genuine devotion of the worshippers. The atmosphere was filled with the harmonious sound of prayers and the fragrance of incense, creating a unique and unforgettable ambiance. The history of the temple is associated with Saint Sukra, who made a retreat at the Sukreswar hillock, where he regularly meditated and worshipped Lord Shiva. The place where he meditated is called Hastagiri as per the Kalika Purana, for it being in the shape of the hump of an elephant. This temple later was constructed in the year 1744 by the King of Ahom, Pramatta Singh, who is supposed to have constructed many religious sites during his rule. In the year 1759, the king Rajeswar Singha took the charge of promoting the Shiva cult. The bank of the river on which the temple is located is used by the devotees for taking holy bath and performing other Puja activities.

It's situation on the riverbank of Brahmaputra. One must enter through the Janardan Devalaya Gate. Then you'll find the steps to the Shukreswar Devalaya. The Janardan Devalaya is situated below only. You can also enjoy the riverside behind the temple, and in the evening, a majestic sunset can also be enjoyed. But you have to be very careful as the steps are very dangerous behind the temple.

Ancient Shiva Temple situated on the banks of the Brahmaputra. The temple is situated just at the entrance of the Overbridge. You need to take the stairs for The main Shiva temple. Janardan Devalay is at a lower level. You can have an amazing view of the Brahmaputra & sunset from behind the temple. Be a little careful on the stairs, which are much steep & narrow.

The Sukreswar Temple is an important Shiva temple in the state of Assam in India. The temple is located on the Sukreswar or Itakhuli hill on the south bank of river Brahmaputra in the Panbazar locality of Guwahati city. Leading down from the temple compound is a long flight of steps to the river. Sitting on the steps of Sukreswar ghat one can enjoy the scenery of sun setting on the river, boats moving across the river, people performing puja in honour of their relatives who have left this world, children and older people bathing. It has one of the largest Lingam of Lord Shiva.

Shukreswar Devalay, also known as Shukreswar Temple, is a prominent Hindu temple located in the city of Guwahati in the Indian state of Assam. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva, one of the principal deities in Hinduism. The temple holds great religious and cultural significance and attracts a large number of devotees and tourists throughout the year. Shukreswar Devalayย is situated on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra River, which adds to its scenic beauty. The temple's architecture reflects a blend of Assamese and Mughal styles, with intricate carvings and designs adorning its walls and pillars. The main sanctum sanctorum houses a Shiva Linga, which is the symbolic representation of Lord Shiva. The history of Shukreswar Devalay dates back several centuries. According to legends, it is believed that the temple was built during the reign of Ahom King Pramatta Singha in the 18th century. However, some historical accounts suggest that it might have been constructed even earlier during the rule of Ahom King Siva Singha in the 17th century. The temple is named after *Shukra*, who is considered to be one of the nine celestial bodies in Hindu astrology. Shukra is associated with wealth, prosperity, and fertility. Devotees visit Shukreswar Devalay to seek blessings from Lord Shiva and Shukra for overall well-being and success in life. The temple complex also includes several other smaller shrines dedicated to various deities like Lord Ganesha, Goddess Durga, Lord Hanuman, and Navagrahas (the nine celestial bodies). These shrines provide devotees with an opportunity to offer prayers and seek blessings from multiple deities. Shukreswar Devalayย holds immense religious significance for the people of Assam. It is believed that offering prayers at this temple can help in the fulfillment of desires, removal of obstacles, and attainment of spiritual enlightenment. The temple is particularly crowded during festivals like Maha Shivaratri, Navratri, and Diwali when special rituals and ceremonies are conducted. Apart from its religious importance, Shukreswar Devalay also serves as a cultural hub. The temple complex hosts various cultural events and performances, showcasing the rich heritage and traditions of Assam. These events attract artists, musicians, and performers from different parts of the state, adding to the vibrancy and cultural diversity of the region. In conclusion, Shukreswar Devalay is a significant Hindu temple located in Guwahati, Assam. Its architectural beauty, religious importance, and cultural significance make it a must-visit destination for devotees and tourists alike.
