We went on a Sunday which was great because not many people. Service was amazing! I just wish their entree includes side like plantain and chapati ( Kenyan flat bread, probably misspelled that). I had to pay extra for them. Overall I would recommend the place.

My parents celebrated their 30th anniversary here, and we loved every bit of it! We had a wonderful server, and the food was top notch. Service was a little slow, but the food was worth the wait. We ordered multiple platters, and would recommend it to all groups dining in. Will be back again!

Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! From the decor to the food. The restaurant ambiance and decor is tastefully done paying homage to the restaurant’s African theme. The food was delicious, plenty, well plated. Outdoor seating in a tent was great and spacious. Party of 4 or more, 15% service fee is added already to the bill. Definitely worth the visit. $$$

I’ve been here four times and can say this is my spot. I don’t try and tell too many people about it cause i don’t want it to get crazy. The wings are crazy good. They come with African spices and are juicy. The samosa’s are the star in my opinion, unbelievably good. The owner is cool, understanding, and chill guy. The music is vibes. I would host a private event here for sure for the food, atmosphere, and drinks. Tuesday’s are the days to go for all day happy hour. Will be back for sure.

Food was good. Area is nice. Not too crowded during the day. Service was good. Friendly staff and waiter. Nice spot for friends hanging out or a little date night.

Dine in | Lunch | $10–20 You don't have to go to Africa to get an African experience, just go to Hakuna matata. Highly recommend for great food, amazing service and overall good vibes. I’ve been there twice in one week! Will definitely be back for more music and cold beer 👍👍👍👍

New to the area, me and my husband were excited to finally try Hakuna Matata Grill tonight for takeout. We were not impressed… The first thing we noticed when we got home is they forgot our samosas. Then we saw the Hakuna Matata salad was nothing as described! It wasn’t mixed greens, it had no avocado, nor corn and it didn’t even come with dressing! It was literally a small container filled with 1 type of bitter green (one you would use to garnish) and then just threw a generic diced onion/cucumber/tomato mix on top with some pepitas. Definitely not a salad worthy of naming your restaurant after. The banana stew was pretty bland, I was expecting a lot more flavor. Also no entree came with sides as described on menu. 2 stars only because the wings and chicken skewers were pretty good, but they both had the same spice blend on them and tasted the same. And the skewers only came with that same diced onion/cucumber/tomato mix on the side that was on the salad. Everything was pretty lack luster, we felt as though we wasted money and will probably not return.

Ordered Pili Pili wings via UberEats and they came severely dry with barely any sauce on them. Usually the wings come with a lot of sauce and are moist these were beyond dry and cold. I spent $26 in delivery alone- I’m unhappy. It seems that no love nor care was put into making these wings which is a first. This is one of my favorites off the menu and they are usually made to perfection.

Three cheers for the Ah-mazing curried green banana, coconut beans, collard greens, kachumbari, chai, grilled goat, tikka chicken and fries our first time trying a blend of Kenyan & Ugandan cuisine! I was so HAPPY to enjoy their yummy version of one of my favorite back-home comfort foods - greens. (It was the pictures of those greens that drew me for our first visit.) We thought the chicken tikka was a bit pricey when we first ordered, but when everything came out, the portions were generous enough that we figured we couldn't eat it all. My husband, who loves to cook (as if for an army) and usually complains about either the food itself (usually for lacking soul 🤷‍♀️) or price for value at restaurants, thought that every dish was delicious and worth it. 👏 We ate every bite, and I had to stop myself from licking my plate. 😋

Great happy hour that goes to 8pm even on Friday! We were there a 7pm and had the place to ourselves. Good drinks and great samosas and wings. Undiscovered gem in Wheaton.

The service was great and the scenery was cute; however, I felt the chef forgot to add seasoning on the food, it was ok. It lacked flavor. Also I should have read the menu because the Chapati is an extra $5.00 it’s not included on the side. My fault for not noticing that and they charge you for sauce even. Again our waiter was fantastic and the place nice.

Food was unique & delicious! A bit expensive for the portion sizes, but good quality & the service/ambiance make up for it 🙂

Met up with a friend here. It was a Friday night. Karaoke was funny. I only had the fries and they were good. The beer I had was good too. I'd definitely revisit

The good news - the chef has talent. Our food was fresh, well-prepared and tasty. The bad news - horrible service. Extremely slow and poorly trained in all aspects. Dinner took twice as long as it should have, over two hours. I found the prices high, and charging $6 for a $1 bottle of water is insulting. Since 15% is automatically added to the bill, you have no ability to send a message. My advice, order for pickup and live longer.

1st time. Food is definitely one of a kind. They have a beef or goat option. Service was prompt and attentive. You have to check this place out.

Watch your credit card. I need my money back! I said I will get 4 samosas to go. The menu says they have veggie or beef. Nobody bothered to ask which option I liked. I was waiting for someone to ask when a guy brought 4 beef samosas and charged me $16.95. (Price on the menu was $6 and some cents for 2). At this point I was thinking, “okay they added taxes” and I paid. I looked on my bank account this morning and they charged a total of $21.12. Really? For samosas that you didn’t even have the option advertised on the menu? NEVER AGAIN! My son and I spent $38 for two full, delicious meals at another African restaurant. Now I wish we just skipped this place all together.

We came here to meet up some friends, the service was really attentive and profesional, I got the dry rub Umoja wings which were extremely good. As for drinks the sauti sol was my favorite, it was exceptionally good. Overall the music, food and drinks options make this one of the best places to go to in this area.

It is such an amazing restaurant with amazing African food, music and a relaxing atmosphere. It brings that back-home vibe for those in the diaspora. I recommend it to all fun-loving people.

in Silver Spring MD and a East African restaurant serving food inspired by Persian, Indian, and Portuguese cuisine, we enjoyed a evening here with friends, the Manager was very friendly & helpful, wait staff was good. Food is descent but not amazing. Turns into a club at 10 pm and have a DJ playing music.price is not cheap but also not super expensive.

The service is great and the ambiance with the music is such a vibe. But what I enjoyed most was the cocktails made by the bartender, Arnold. He made a good mojito that was just right, with the right hint of lime and mint. I quite enjoyed it.
