I went to The Pit last night and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The improv actors were very talented and I laughed a ton! I needed to laugh and this place got the job done. I’ll definitely be going back!

I recently took the PIT’s Level 1 Stand Up Comedy course with Stephanie Holmes, and had an amazing experience. The course takes you through 6 weeks of writing and workshopping your material in a safe space to explore your comedic voice, and then let’s you take the stage to showcase your hard work. Stephanie is an amazing instructor who inspires and encourages her students to grind if they want to make it in comedy. She helps her students find their voices and tap into their unique styles. I started this course feeling totally not funny, but am leaving feeling emboldened and confident in my material.

We saw an amazing show there this week. Vern performed an improvised musical, "Omar is not CPR certified". Cast was amazing, so funny. Also the opening group was great. We have seen improv all over the country, this was top notch.

This place is so unique! They take suggestions from the audience, improv and then add a musical number! The were hilarious the night we went! I had a blast! And it's a very nice price! $5 a person! There is no drinks or food served here but it's New York !

My work team did a private workshop at the PIT with Patrick McCartney, and it was amazing! Patrick made us all feel comfortable and patiently led us through the various games and activities. He made it easy and approachable even for the team members that were most nervous. We did games for the entire group and smaller sub groups, so everyone participated equally, and people who might not otherwise work together were able to bond. My team had so much fun and obviously laughed a ton! We would highly recommend this!

We needed a last minute bit of entertainment, and found their March Madness improv tournament online for $10 a ticket. We came with our teens, who had not really seen an improv show before. It was very entertaining and the performers were quick witted and charming.

Stephanie Holmes and Kimberly Alu are two of the best teachers I’ve ever had from any theatre. Stephanie breaks down stand up in a way that makes sense. She provides great feedback. Kimberly loves improv and makes you love it more working with her. I love that this theatre continues to offer online classes and hope this continues.

I have now taken three improv classes at the PIT and I finally decided to write a review. The PIT nurtures such a positive and encouraging environment with so many committed and talented instructors. I had never before done improv but dipped my toe in with a 'Joy of Improv' class a couple of years ago. It was a great way to release the seriousness of being an adult and just have fun and be silly with absolutely no stakes involved. This quickly led on to a level one and level 2 class. My teacher for both of those classes was Lisa Whitten who I simply cannot say enough positive things about. She is thoughtful, caring and brings such a positive energy to every class. Lisa creates an environment in which you feel safe to be vulnerable and explore the fun that comes with play. Honestly, I think the world would be a much better place if every adult did improv. If you are even a little curious, take the leap and who knows what you'll discover about yourself and you'll hopefully meet some wonderful people along the way.

I took a wonderful Stand-up comedy class from Stephanie Holmes after meeting her at the PIT! Stephanie shared a lot of her wisdom doing standup in New York and helped me develop my material into something to be very proud of. Thank you Stephanie :)

I’ve taken a few comedy classes around town and Stephanie Holmes is far and away the best teacher. She hones in on who you are and your style to help excavate the best jokes that are unique to you! Would take her class 1000 times but she’s so good I don’t need to! 10/10 would recommend.

I recently commissioned work with the folks at The PIT. Such an AMAZING experience all around. Mac, was Super responsive with all my queries. And our moderator, Matt Higgins, did an AWESOME job leading a small group of us to be more open, collaborative, and present. Me and my strategy team, so enjoyed the time and the exercises and the stories. It was the best 2 hours, I spent in the whole week. I can't say enough about this amazing group of highly talented individuals who are gifted in the art of being human. Many thanks to Mac and Matt. Cheers, Dora

The Pit is a safe space for cutting your teeth as a comedian. I took a class with Stephanie Holmes and she creates a comfortable environment and a desire to keep writing and writing and getting better every week. She also has a strong pedigree regarding the scene and is honest with her students, so I highly recommend you try to take a class with her. I have taken several classes and while I’m still not funny it is definitely not Stephanie’s fault.

I was apprehensive at first to take classes on stand-up--why would you take classes instead of just going out and "doing it?" I was wrong. These classes were very helpful for me, an aspiring but discouraged comic. I took 2 stand up classes with Coach Steph Holmes. Her classes were great workshops. They taught you what to expect out there beyond the classroom, of course, but they also taught you how to communicate and connect with an audience. Great tips on how to form your voice and be funny. You learn how to write, how to rewrite, edit, adjust tone, add or take away context, and more. She's a great professor, has a great deal of knowledge. Most importantly, she's generous with it. Comedy's weird because it's so subjective, but I without a doubt FEEL funnier after these classes and shows. I also feel more confident. If you can go up on stage and tell jokes to people, you can do pretty much anything.

In preparation for a day long brainstorming workshop my team took an improv class at The Pit. The instructors were lovely: professional, funny, and engaging. I've taken improv classes in my personal life before and they did a great job of bringing the fun of improv into a place where it felt possible to be creative and silly in front of my coworkers. I highly recommend!

Took a level one stand-up class with Stephanie Holmes and had a blast! Informative and helpful classes, and a really fun "graduation" show that they had professionally recorded and distributed to the students for a very reasonable price. Can't recommend the PIT enough.

Mac and Ali were really great at bringing the team together for a great bonding and skill building exercise. They really helped us break the ice and help us kick off with activities that were both and and impactful. Highly recommend them and would love to do another improv session in the future.

Went for the first time last night and was shocked by how bad the comedy was. It was all so cringey and awkward. Ranging from immature jokes to being borderline offensive just to get a reaction. It seemed like the only people laughing were friends of the performers and everyone else was just uncomfortable. My advice is to stick with the more reputable comedy clubs in the city.

Shows are great here, of course. Our team also did an improv workshop and it was incredible. The instructor Sarah was so perfect for what we needed. Of course some people were nervous about doing improv in front of colleagues but it ended up being so fulfilling and really made us closer as a team. Couldn’t recommend it enough.

The perfect improv class! Our instructor Christine created a playful, creative, and 100% welcoming environment for everyone, and made my husband (whose birthday we were celebrating) feel super special ! I highly recommend the PIT to anyone looking for a fun, joyful and memorable time. Mac, our coordinator for the class went above and beyond to help coordinate the class and also a post-dinner event at the Pioneers Bar below the studio. He made the event planning seamless and simply perfect! Love the PIT.

Does your team need a refresh? I highly recommend The Pit to facilitate corporate team-building events. We had a team-building event for 30 people and the Pit sent three amazing improv pros who prepped us and then led us through some fantastic exercises. The final exercise was tailored to our industry and everyone loved it. The team (who hadn't been assembled since before Covid) came out connected & energized. We were all surprised how engaged we were and how much fun we had. It was the highlight of our conference AND they even found someone in London to run the same session for our colleagues there. Easy to book, reliable, and experienced. Highly recommend!
