Amazing food, worth the wait, staff are lovely and welcoming. Only down side is it’s a little crammed at the back right where the 6 seater tables are. Getting in and out of your chair is difficult with the table behind being so close but will say was completely worth it due to the quality of food and service you receive.

High expectations (award winning) but no wow delivery. Don't go on a Sunday as they short order so as not to have anything left when closed on the following 2 days. They even ran out of the frozen soft shell crabs. Tail end of cod and haddock (the lower priced cut) with a handful of chips underwhelmed. Two scoops of ice cream in an undressed glass flavoursome but really, not even a cherry or wafer! The good points: excellent oysters, tasty tartar sauce, good view and service. Why not take American Express, its no more expensive. Must try harder.

This is not my first review of No.1 (and more important people, like Jay Rayner, have written about it in the press). But I am happy to see the Upstairs maintains a very high standard of food and ambiance. To be clear: the No 1 has also a takeaway, and a downstairs seating, but both are ordinary (decent) fish and chippers. The Upstairs is a real restaurant, of excellent quality (even though we always ask for their fish and chips, when we visit - because these are extraordinary). The full menu is rich of many other attractive things, from large Surf and Turf, Fish Platter, to small soft shell crab starter. Worth a visit, but should pre-book in the busy summer time.

We booked No.1 Cromer last minute for 6 adults and 6 children to get some quick fish and chips. It’s more than just a fish bar. The food here is great and they have a wonderful menu. Nice and spacious, warm and friendly with spectacular views of Cromer pier. We would definitely return for more. The children loved the chips served with a bucket and spade each. The fish was beautifully cooked and very fresh. Thank you

Able to walk in for a table, and was seated quickly. Range of food was impressive and my partner opted for two starters in place of a main. Portion sizes were good and the food was exceptionally tasty! Tempura Prawns were good and the Moroccan Cauliflower was excellent. Would recommend, although some items had higher than expected prices (cauliflower was £15 and a side of chips were £4)

Absolutely incredible food. Despite people queuing out of the door we were seated and served promptly with no issues. I don’t usually like battered fish but the fish burger was simply delicious as too was the perfectly paired seasonal ale. Also worth mentioning that one of the staff ran after me down the street in the cold after I had left my bag under the table - great people, great food.

Absolutely perfect fish and chips. Incredible portions with stunning views over the sea, beach and pier. Swift service and everything is prepared fresh to order. Melt in the mouth chips, crispy battered fish. Gherkins, onions a bit small for the price. Ice cream bar including banana splits! Friendly service.

I was told this would be the best fish & chips I'd ever had. Challenge accepted! When we got here, the queues for the take out were round the block. Good start! We were in the restaurant upstairs, which is called Upstairs At No. 1. We had booked which was a good job as we saw them turn about four couples away who hadn't. Interesting menu, good wine list and stunning views. And it lived up to the hype, probably the best fish & chips I have had. We started with a smoked haddock scotch egg which was wonderful and came with a curried aioli, and a goats cheese mousse, which sounded like it might not be too good but was in fact exquisite . We both went for the cod and chips. Batter was delicate yet robust. Fish was beautifully white and chunky. Chips were perfect. Tartare sauce was delicious. And an Australian Shiraz to wash it down. Absolutely excellent meal. Pics don't do the fish & chips justice.
