We booked for an evening meal at The Running Horse 18/02/22 Our table was reserved on arrival by Donna and we were made to feel very welcome. Our server Arron introduced himself, and took our drinks order promptly. After receiving our wine, he took our food order. It arrived quickly and hot. My wife had the Vegan bourguignon mushroom pie with mash & Veg. It had a suet base with a flakey top, plenty of filling with baby shallots. It looked nice and my wife said it tasted good. I had Mega steak & scampi. The steak was cooked to my liking. Arron came back to make sure we were happy with everthing. Once finished our plates were cleared quickly. Arron asked if we would like dessert, but we were both too full from our mains. I would like to say a big thank you to Donna and all her staff, for the hard work and effort that they go to for their customer's. Very much appreciated. Can't wait till next week!

food good but service terrible…didn’t get to choose where to sit and was sat in the kids area between two tables of families with young and loud children, despite all of us being adults, my brother the youngest at 18 and was told by the waiter he was putting us in “a good spot” 🤨 overcharged us twice for our meal even after pointing out the mistakes on the receipt and then them claiming they had sorted it. tried to order the low calorie option of the pepperoni pizza that was stated on the menu and instead they told us they would put it through as a kids pizza because it’s “basically the same”, why have something as an option on the menu if you won’t allow people to order it? and when it arrived i was in disbelief as there is no way you can class that as a “meal” (picture attached). then we ordered dessert and after waiting 45 minutes and it not arriving we requested to cancel the order and be refunded for the cancelled dessert order which they said they had done and we would get an email to confirm the refund yet a day later there’s still no email confirmation and have not been refunded.

We booked a table for 5 for the last night of our holiday. When we arrived we were told that someone else was sat at our table and "will this one do?". The small amount of staff were very busy and struggled to cope with the amount of customers. This is a problem for the owners and not the staff. After waiting 45 minutes we asked about our main course and it then appeared after 5 minutes. The food was OK ish, the pie pastry was hard and the Hunters chicken was dry. We then had a very long wait for desserts. The ice-cream was liquid as though it had been on the plate for quite a while and forgot about. To top it all we were told that the coffee machine had broken so we went back to our accommodation and made our own. Overall we were very disappointed which reflects on Marstons and not on any particular member of staff.

We booked in for a Christmas Breakfast with the elves. The kids were very excited, when we got there they were not disappointed. We were met by Donna the Elf and shown to our table, sat amongst other families enjoying the same event. Our order was taken and food arrived very quickly cooked perfectly and tasted great. The kids were given Christmas tree cookies to decorate, they had colouring in to do on the table, a letter to write to the big man and at the end of the meal they were each given some presents. We all had crackers which had vouchers for money off another meal, so much better than a cheap plastic toy, a lovely atmosphere, lovely food and attentive polite professional staff. Will be back here again soon.

Food nice. But the idea of us ordering our food and drinks at the bar and pay as you go is not what we want. We are regulars and we like to give the waitresses our orders at the table and have contact with them too. We feel that the service overall is slow and the limited staff that are on cant manage especially if big parties are in. Not having a go at the staff as they do their best. They need a Manager supporting them out front and not in the kitchen . Overall the evening was Ok.

Not visited since pre Covid, very impressed still. Spacious car park, all clean and tidy outside and in. Staff very helpful and friendly, none wearing masks though. Only Marston's standard menu available, although the specials menu is due to return. Food very nice and we all enjoyed our seperate varying meals. Toilets immaculate, disabled/baby change toilet spacious, well laid out and immaculately clean. A big well done to the staff and Marstons for keeping a very high standard indeed. Well worth a visit for a family or a couple wanting a reasonably priced drink and meal. 👍😁

The food was lovely. I have no idea what people are complaining about. I have no complaints, especially for the price! Another positive was that Jasmine was a lovely server who bent over backwards for us. If you're looking for a nice place to eat and not spend too much then go here, otherwise stop moaning and go somewhere else.

Friendly and helpful staff, booked a table with dogs and seated us on a table with plenty of room!! Food was tasty and we didn’t have to wait forever for it to be served. Only criticism would be that dog are not allowed on carpeted areas of restaurant, unlike a lot of other establishments in the North Norfolk area. Other than that it would have been a 10/10 from us.

Stopped here to charge my car had a great meal, took the dog in as well and I asked them to cook him a chicken breast for his tea. Great service and very professional staff service. Highly recommended

Lovely place for a meal out with the family. Staff were nice and friendly and were very good when dealing with allergens. We took the dog as they are dog friendly and he had his own water bowl and some dog biscuits. We also asked for some whipped cream for him while we were having our desert which he loved. Food also came out within 15 mins of ordering. Very tasty and well cooked.

We booked before visiting and arrived early; it wasn't a problem as our table was ready for us. Donna showed us to our seat and came back to take our order, (a service not usually available in these chain restaurants, but suited us). The restaurant was busy but our meals arrived within a respectable amount of time. Everyone was happy with what they ordered. 2 of us chose desserts which were reasonably priced for the portion size. We were initially reluctant to eat here after having a couple of bad meals previously (although a few years ago). The whole place was very clean. All staff appeared to be helpful and we will visit again without hesitation. A much improved experience. Well done 😀

Nice food, calm and clean. Just perfect, especially with a dog. Harley supplied a water bowl straight away after a long walk with the dog.

We enjoyed a lovely family meal at The Running Horse. We arrived for lunch and had a table reserved for us since we were a larger party. We were greeted warmly by all staff members. We asked for drink suggestions, which we were given, and were wonderful. There was a fun little indoor area for children, which my oldest daughter loved getting lollipops from. There was also a fun outdoor area for children. The team was very accommodating when it came to my daughter's food allergy and were able to answer all questions we had. The food was delicious! We had a lovely time and will definitely be back the next time we are in town.

Door wasn't open when arrived - although it should have been (11.20am) but opened quickly by staff member who explained they had a minor kitchen issue that would delay meal order until11.30am. Staff were friendly and courteous. Waiter took order at precisely 11,30am. Good food served on hot plates and very good value. £3.60 for a 330ml bottle of alcohol free Warsteiner is, I suggest, taking the mickey!!! which is why I've only given an 8 in question 4 above.

Came here as a stop for dinner before heading back home. This was recommended by a friend of mine and my partners. Despite it being a mixed bag of sunshine and showers on the May Day bank holiday, we enjoyed ourselves. The food was really delicious and so were the puddings. Very friendly staff and the service was very good. Do stop by. Will be back again sometime.

As a family having a Christmas meal together is important. Fakenham were so good at the order stage. Arrived and had table ready for Christmas. We needed wheelchair access which was delivered. The food was hot and delicious. So much of it as well. Service was excellent we highly recommend Fakenham if you want a get together with family.

We can’t afford to go out much anymore and we usually get a nice meal in here. I sent my food back and everyone had eaten before it returned so I couldn’t then eat it. We got deserts for free but have ended up paying for 2 steaks and only being able to eat deserts so rather out of pocket. Really not happy about this as we only eat out every other month and I can’t really call what we had eating out. Picture is my partners food who didn’t want to complain but ordered a medium rear steak and got that. Mine was cold and even rarer so I returned having eaten non of it.

We enjoyed our first festive menu at The Running Horse this year. The staff were very attentive & on the ball from showing us to our table, serving drinks & food. The table was nicely set out, clean & tidy. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Oh and the food was delicious! Thank you & we will return.

Booking was easy. On arrival, shown straight to our table. Given time to look at the menus, but then easily ordered, and food delivered quickly. Very happy with the Main Course. And then the Pudding and Coffee. Bill easily paid. Thank you.

Lovely place, staff are superb, very keen to please. I wish I could say that the food was absolutely first class, but to be nitpicky, time was when you got a good helping of it. Seems that since Covid/C.O.L. portions appear to be a bit meagre. Food was delicious, but a bit more next time please

Would have given zero stars had that been possible. Booked well in advance. Kept waiting with three other couples for a good 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. Shown to our table to find a party of guests still eating/drinking. Went to another table to find cleaning products and dirty cloth on table. The gentleman at the door was absolutely out of his depth and had little or no management training. Door notice said they were accepting only bookings, everyone else turned away due to lack of staff. If there was only limited staff on that evening why did no-one think to cancel bookings/rebook customers for another time. Staff completely overwhelmed and stressed. This place needs strong management and leadership. It really is a complete shambles. GIVE IT A MISS.Needless to say our party of four walked out in disgust.

The staff were lovely, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The venue was very warm and cosy and had a lovely festive atmosphere. It was full of families enjoying a meal. Our food was really good and so was the service, as well as being good value. We were looked after really well by Molly, Grace and Alicia. We will definitely visit again if we are in the area.

Booked after searching on line for somewhere near Thursford as taking elderly Mum and needed to eat prior to show. Booking was easy and also explanatory about timed slot. Follow up e mail day before was excellent. Pub was clean tidy and very festive with decorations. Staff were all excellent young lad and 2 ladies. And so helpful with an elderly requirement no peas. Just one scoop of ice cream but willing to pay full price just puts off. Disabled and Normal Toilets clean. Lastly food was excellent. Have definitely told all who we know visit separately from Coach Tours now where to eat. Perfect location and service timing took stress away also. Well done to the Team Front and Back if House. Local and Area Managers need to proud of this site and staff. Well trained, service skills and people skills. Hospitality at its best.

I have already reported this and still nobody has attempted to resolve any of it – I visited with my 2 grandchildren aged 6 and 2 . Tried to order kids pasta no Tom sauce was told couldn’t do so I ordered kids pizza. After waiting around 20 minutes was told we’re not doing pizza today so ordered a kids chicken dippers . Food arrived about 45 minutes after ordering . I had almost asked for my money back and forget the food it took so long . It was not busy and the table next to me was also complaining . When the food arrived there was a spare portion of chips that I did not ask for but had it turns out been charged for . I was told by the waitress she was new and couldn’t help . It was not her fault she hadn’t taken my order . I had a “ club sandwich “ it was dry and poor quality . No sauce no tomato , dry over cooked bacon dry lettuce and dry toast . My grandchildren barely ate their food it was very poor . I’m thoroughly disappointed and feel like I’ve wasted my money . I have photographs if required

A very welcoming atmosphere. The booking experience was easy and the food was excellent but unfortunately the service was poor. Waiting times were excessive due to what appeared to be a shortage of staff. The few staff serving were run off their feet trying to keep up with demand, goodness knows what the kitchen staff were going through. This was our first visit and we intend to return in the near future when hopefully the staffing problems have been addressed.

  • 3/5 Chris A. 7 months ago on Google
The only reason I have given it a 3 star review is because we had over an hour and a half wait for our main meals. The poor staff were run off their feet as they were short staffed, doing their best. We didn’t want to complain but when after an hour we were seeing people come in and getting their food and then going whilst we were waiting made us have a chat with the staff. The staff were fantastic and I am understanding of the situation so I would like you to pass on our thanks for them doing their best. Our suggestion would be when staff shortages occur maybe close an area for food or have a maximum head count per hour. Thank you though, it has not put us off coming again

It was a lovely lunch for my mum's 80th birthday. We had a lovely table in a quiet area as asked when booked online. The food was fantastic especially the Vegetarian burger. All round a lovely lunch

A lovely pub with very friendly staff and nice decor. We had Sunday lunch and the portions were big and it tasted great. Also very reasonably priced and they give 20% discount to Blue Card holders so that was a nice surprise as we've found that a lot of places have stopped doing this. All in all a lovely experience with great food and a friendly service. Would highly recommend it.

Spontaneous meal out with friends and we managed to book a table at very short notice. The staff were welcoming and while very busy, were friendly and efficient. The food is excellent value for money, cooked perfectly and well presented. Absolutely no complaints from any of us and we'd not hesitate to go back.

Lovely experience. Booked informing we would be taking a pram and they reserved us a table in the corner with loads of space which we really appreciated. Fast delivery and lovely food. Faultless visit! Thank you!

Had a table booked but arrived early and they were able to accommodate us. Ordered using the app, service wasn't amazingly quick but it was a Friday night. All orders were correct, food was hot and tasty, staff were friendly. Toilets clean. Good selection of dishes for both children and adults. My son thoroughly enjoyed his fish and chips from the bigger appetites menu, and he's a very fussy eater!

  • 2/5 Chris S. 1 year ago on Google
The waitress was fantastic. The food not so much. Tiny veg burger which looked like had come from Morrisons and wasn't as advertised on the menu, with very few fries on a small plate with nothing else. Quite expensive for what it is. Absolutely nothing like it used to be. Probably won't be back

  • 5/5 Emily E. 1 year ago on Google
We were a very large booking so lots of different orders to balance. The food all came together, there were no problems, and it was very tasty! We also had a dog with us and it was brilliant to be able to bring him along. All of the staff were very helpful and friendly and special thanks to Harley, our server! We will definitely be returning and have already talked about returning next Christmas!

We booked this the day before not knowing what to expect. "Pub chain... Not likely to be great but good menu choice". Before visiting the Running Horse a friend who lives locally said "I go there a lot and it's really good". We arrived over half hour early, it wasn't a problem and they showed us to the table. We were in three cars over 10 mins and the welcome was great for all of us. It was perfect for a family meet up with four kids from under 1 through to 9 years old. The chap on the bar was efficient and friendly as were the waiting staff. 9 of us and drinks, mains and puddings. No errors or issues and all pleasantly surprised by the quality and portion size. We were really pleasantly surprised as we expected it to be mediocre. Please pass on our thanks and appreciation to the staff from 1330-1600.

Simple and easy to use booking system. Very helpful and kind on the phone when called to increase party size. Wonderfully pleasant and relaxing experience. All staff very kind, friendly and attentive. Food was lovely, great portions and presented well. Thank you all for making a family meal enjoyable and a lovely day out!

I visit here frequently with my boyfriend and my parents - the staff are always very friendly (particularly little Donna!!!) and very attentive! We are always welcomed with a smile and they always ensure they find a table for us, even when they are super busy! They food is reasonably priced and of good standard! Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️

  • 4/5 Christine L. 1 year ago on Google
Took both of our dogs in here as it was too warm outside to leave them & we had a lovely welcome from the staff. There was an offer on of 30% off mains & I ordered a sirloin steak & my Husband ordered the cod. It was great value for money & was a good meal. The reason I gave only 4 points rather than 5 is because I ordered my steak rare & it was medium to well done. Other than that couldn't fault it. Our desserts were lovely too

  • 5/5 Geoff M. 2 years ago on Google
We were served very courteously by Harley who made sure we had everything we required at all times. The meal was excellent with rather more meat (mixed grill) than my partner could manage at the time and we were kindly offered a "take home" box to prevent waste. All in all a very pleasant experience.

  • 2/5 Joe 2 years ago on Google
Arrived, slow service, and then they sat one group around us, making the experience fairly intolerable as they shouted over our table talking to each other. Two tiny onion rings made up the "portion" with cold chips, the burger and hunters chicken themselves were good. The pigs in blankets were soaked in congealed fat, with excessively poor quality sausage.

  • 5/5 Em G. 2 years ago on Google
This is a great place to eat. I have had problems finding restaurants cater for us gluten free folk. Not only do they have a separate menu , it is full of the pub favourites. Very tasty indeed.
