Great place for all the family and also very wheel chair and mobility scooter friendly . Lovely lake with lots of wildlife upon it. Could do with some more benches for you to stop and sit and enjoy the areas. Toilets were clean and there is a decent cafe. £2 for an hour , £6 for the day or if you want a years pass it's £40 .

I was not feeling this place, wasn't a very tranquil walk. I can see it being perfect for horse riders or bikes or taking your children out for the day, but it's not for doggies. The paths are very wide which is great and have sort of gravel/dirt on so they are great to walk, push a pram or bike. We didn't see any forest trails, the existing ones were closed which is a shame so you had to walk on the big paths. The parking is a bit pricey as well £2 for an hour, £4 for 2 hours and £6 for the day. There's a lovely cafe too just near the car park that overlooks the fields. I do not think we will be visiting again however, not with the doggies at least.

Lovely place for a wall or bike ride. Nice cafe for food and drink. Really nice lake to walk around or a short mountain bike track for the older kids or adults. Goof play area for the kids too

We visit regularly as a great place to run, walk or ride your bike with some great mountain bike trails are well maintained and ideal for beginners and experienced riders to enjoy. Nice little cafe and children's okay park with space for picnics. Bike hire very reasonably priced with a lovely chap running the shop. Toilets are clean and tidy.

Hicks lodge is the perfect place for a family bike ride. There are trails for every ability. There is a cafe and a play area at the visitor center. Don't forget to do the super worm activity trail if you have young children. All in all a nice day out. Only down side is that the car park can fill up quickly so get there early.

Really excited about the possibilities that there are here. We popped in as a family for breakfast and left buzzing with possibilities. The boys want to bring their bikes and the girls want to bring their ponies. It isn't the best cafe as it's safe prepared, pre-packaged sandwiches, panini's and tray baked cakes however the quality of the coffee was great. I had bacon, brie and cranberry panini it was very tasty. Then a slice of beetroot and date chocolate brownie, it was rich, lovely and moist.

It's a lovely day out for the family whatever the weather. The restroom aren't the great and aren't always open. The cafe is nice and friendly. Prices are average and not too expensive. The playground is a nice small playground suitable for the older kids. Parking can sometimes be an issue if it's busy. There is no overspill. Overall, as a family we love coming here for a walk as there are many tracks to choose from depending on what we feel like.

Very nice walk through woods and around a lake. Lots of birds. Whole place well looked after. Parking was a bit expensive, but they had a sign explaining why and if you want a place like this maintained properly, someone has to pay for it. Bit disappointed with the breakfast offering in the cafe, which was limited to a bacon or sausage sandwich and when it arrived it was very ordinary.

The hide is a great place for watching the birds on the lake. So peaceful and calming for the mind it's helped make me a budding twitcher. Nice warm place out of the wind and rain open from around 8.30am until dusk

Great place for a walk, family bike ride, and birdwatching. For walking and cycling, the path is firm with a light covering of loose stone. This would be suitable for pushchairs, wheelchairs and some powered wheelchairs. The routes are mainly circular with varying gradients from flat to steep. The steep slopes are relatively accessible depending on ability. Some lighter power wheelchairs may struggle to get traction due to the loose stones (assumption, not tested). The playground has some play equipment, but it is limited. However, the main attraction of a visit would be to walk/cycle etc around the area. There is a stream that runs through the play area with stepping stones (a very nice touch and unique for playgrounds). Be sure to have kids in wellies as jumping in the stream seemed more fun then the stepping stone. Overall we all enjoyed our walk and spotted a skylark which was a first for this year. Our kids were on their balance bikes. Our 3 year old made it all the way round apart from the steepest slope. A little too far for our 2 year old and gave in to the pushchair willingly. I would recommend visiting if you're in the area. Cafe - cannot comment as we didn't stop there.

Great location for walks and bike rides, nice cafe and bike hire centre but car park very small. You can pay for parking on an app called RingGo (location 31032). Be warned, it's very exposed and windy!

Brilliant few hours spent cycling the different routes around Hicks Lodge. We completed the yellow and green trails as a family. Lots of lovely places to stop for a picnic.

Visited yesterday with our 2 and half year old granddaughter to do the Zog trail. The trail could have been more interactive with more boards placed closer together as she got bored of finding the next board which was some distance away. Would also be nicer to have more places to sit and rest and have a picnic under a shade along the trail. The cafe is nice and reasonable priced, though the baby changing toilet is awful and in a room with electrical switches and boxes. Car park charges are expensive and the machines don't give change (no notice of this on the machines) 😏. Won't be rushing to return here again soon.
