This may be somewhat of a strange or unique review, given that I’ve never purchased an item from Van Rijk. However, I feel the depth of my interaction with Alec at Van Rijk is enough experience to offer some perspective on what you might expect when doing business with Van Rijk. I was seeking out a very particular watch, in a very particular condition that is very limited in production. Alec was able to source a seller of the exact watch I was looking for and he worked tirelessly with me for weeks to liaise with the seller to attempt facilitating a deal. Eventually, he just outright bought the watch from the seller, taking on risk just to have more control over the process. The price I was looking to pay was aggressive and we were very close to finalizing a deal. However, from my side of things, I just couldn’t justify the delta in the price I was looking to pay vs. the price Van Rijk needed to recoup. During the negotiation process, Alec was always cordial and professional, and he did everything he could to find a deal for me. Even though I didn’t end up buying the watch, I’m incredibly impressed with the time and effort Alec put in. I have never bought anything from Van Rijk, and still, he treated me like I was his most important client. In this day and age, that kind of experience is very, very rare. Needless to say, I strongly recommend Van Rijk. I am confident they will do everything in their power to satisfy your dream purchase.

As a gemologist, I am trained to recognize quality and value. In my first transaction with Van Rijk (which was all remote), they exceeded my expectations on both. Not only were the Cartier earrings I purchased beautiful and in superb condition, but they could not have treated me any better. They stayed in constant contact until the purchase was safely through Customs and delivered to my home. I'm happily looking forward to purchasing from them again.

Tried to tell me my jewelry was rubbish when in fact it is not. I understand one only gets 20-50% of the value when selling. He picked up a handful of loose diamonds to demonstrate that they are not worth much. See if someone is honest before buying/selling. Pay for a proper appraisal.

I purchased a watch here, as well as traded in a piece of my own. The appraisal process was fair and transparent. The staff here are incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable. At no point during the process was I pressured to make a decision, everyone was very patient. I hope to return in the future and would recommend Van Rijk jewelers without hesitation.

From here on, I will have a life long partnership with Van Rijk. A friend of mine referred me to Van Rijk years ago. Initially I made a purchase for a 1950s Omega which was a seemless transaction. After a couple years, I had built my collection and was looking for a trade. Last week, I had the opportunity to sit with Alec (I suggest booking an appointment). Alec was very inviting. He had a look at the 2 time pieces I brought in. While he worked on the appraisal, I was able to look at their inventory. Within a few minutes, I had my options picked. (If you plan to trade in, browse their online inventory). The appraisal was ready when I returned. Alec was very transparent and I found his offer fair. Not to mention, he has quite the sense of humour. I am extremely pleased with our trade. I very much look forward to returning in the near future.

Purchasing a watch via the internet is a challenge, you are spending a significant sum of money on an item that has to fit and “look right” and on top of this you wonder about the accuracy of the description and whether the watch you are purchasing is genuine. Barbara Van Rijk helped with all of the above and by doing so helped the transaction “feel right”. The watch was well packed and arrived safely (thank you Andrew), it was as described with regards to its condition and proved to be genuine. I was considering dropping one star, but decided this was a little harsh. The reason; the description of the “box and papers” was a little different from what was delivered, however, this was corrected by Andrew once it was brought to his attention. Overall? I would be happy to purchase another watch from Barbara/van Rijk.

This particular star has been around for decades supplying the public with high-end timepieces of impeccable provenance and condition. They've been around for decades and that just doesn't happen unless you're supplying great service and products. I report recommends a store highly to anyone looking for a high-end timepiece.

For a very special birthday for my wife, I purchased a beautiful Patek Philippe wristwatch from Van Rijk. For me, this was no small acquisition, and Andrew Lipworth was very helpful (given the vast selection) as well as very respectful of my budget. I have been a customer of Van Rijk jewellers in Toronto for 7-8 years. The place really is Aladdin’s Cavern. Their exceptional jewellery must be seen to be believed. Without exception, I have been treated with honesty, integrity and good-will whether the purchase was modest or involved significant expense. I have also sold jewellery to Alec and found the appraisal, though not always as high as I’d hoped for (!), to be skilled, realistic and straightforward. (Come on folks, the man’s got a right to make a living!). There was never any pressure for me to sell; in fact, I was encouraged to keep the jewellery/gold if I wanted to do so. I have never witnessed any patronising or condescending attitude/behaviour by staff at Van Rijk. On the contrary, I have been present when there were very young people seeking an inexpensive engagement ring and found that the staff were just as attentive and polite to them as they were to me or other older customers of longer standing. In my experience, Alec, Barbara, Pena and Andrew provided friendly, respectful attention to the needs/wants of everyone in the shop. I have paid for jewellery with credit card and/or cash for jewellery at Van Rijk. There has never been a moment’s hesitation to accept any form of legitimate payment that I suggested. I absolutely trust Van Rijk and intend to continue my patronage.

Had my eye on a Cartier Tank watch for quite some time but they were sold before they even hit the floor at most places, then on top if it, they discontinued the Solo and I was super bummed. Finally found an unworn watch of my dreams listed at Van Rijk and I put in a product request straight away with a few questions. Barbara and Andrew were so helpful and patient with me, answering all of my questions via email and telephone...I am located in Montreal so could not be there in person as I would have liked but I felt like a priority anyway. The transaction was easy and the watch arrived the very next day, exceeding all of my expectations. Next time I am in Toronto, I will definitely drop by in person because I am blown away by the service, the inventory and the ease of doing business with Van Rijk.
