Food was extremely affordable when we went with the 2 meals at lunchtime for £15.50, and in no way did the price detract from the quality or quantity! The menu had a huge selection and all the food we tried was very well made. They also have a wide range of Belgian beer and some cider to round out the experience. Will definitely be back to try some more of the menu!

I personally have never actually eaten here before but my guest had, I have heard that the food was good, we chose to be seated outside as it was a lovely evening, our waitress was perfect she new every dish on the menu, & was extremely helpful. The drinks came quickly & the food was worth the slight wait. Very good portions and well presented both meals were season correctly even one to the vingaret on the salads. I would highly recommend anyone visiting or thinking about eating out in Norwich. Unfortunately I have to add to my last review, everything has gone down hill, so to speak.. No communication between staff food was bland service was terrible food wasn't great poor presentation. So.much so I wouldn't go back there to eat at all.. very disappointing.

AVOID! This is unfortunately under new management, after 21 year of old owners, not what it used to be. The menu you see online is not the actual NEW menu. TripAdvisor - 111 - terrible rated reviews says everything you need to know. We have been coming here for years it’s been lovely. Sadly it’s been taken over by new management and it’s shocking! When trying to book we rang 10 plus times with no answering. Message said ring open table. We did. On arrival they said they were having problems with open table so they weren’t sure if they had a table for us then tried to seat us near a busy front door. We requested a another table as we had booked a week in advance and they did accommodate us but refused to open a window in case they got complaints from other customers (we were sitting next to a radiator while on). We waited 25 mins for a drink and 45 mins for food that was dry and congealed. (see photos) We have previously spent many very happy occasions here and will never go back. When we asked for basic service we were met with attitude. Both of us have been extremely unwell after eating here. Absolutely love the cherry beer which is beautiful, however this is the only thing this place has going for it. Mussels served all year round is your warning! They should be seasonal - Small and tasteless and not de-bearded. Two rubbish meals nearly £80 standard service charge £8.46 (see photos)

In my opinion, the Belgian monk, isn't as good as it use to be, we visited for a meal as we've had great meals in the past, however there seemed to be a more limit menu, however we both for a tartiflette, one fish and one with spicy sausage with black pudding, I had one prawn and one peice of small salmon in the fish dish, with lots of sause, and we found three slices of sausage and a few cubes is black pudding in the other dish, and the size was much reduced from last time we visited, taste was very nice. The beer menu has Chimay on the front and inside, but they no longer sell it, disappointing.... It's still a nice place to visit, however I felt I did not get value for money for 15-16 pounds a meal with very small amount of filling. Service was attentive, chairs uncomftable, pricy food for quantity and quality.

The Belgian Monk is a fantastic pub nestled in the Norwich Lanes. We recently discovered their courtyard is dog friendly so have been visiting more as we can pop in if we’re in town but have our dog with us. I’m usually a cider drinker but the fruit beers they have on offer are so yummy. My favourites are the lindeman’s apple beer and the raspberry beer. There is sooo much choice for other beers though! We are always served by enthusiastic & friendly staff and the food is also delicious! Highly recommended The Belgian Monk!! 🍻

Excellent local pub serving delicious Belgian food and 🍺! The mussels in herbs and butter sauce is a must try, together with their draught Belgian beer. I finished everything!

Top notch food, great selection of Belgian beers and friendly service. We got the “Dubbel Deal” which made the food incredible value for money. Highly recommend

Very attentive customer service would be the highlight of this place. The food isn’t far behind either. The menu for vegetarians are decent and the wine options are extensive. The Christmas festivities were pleasing and we had a merry time out there.

We have been to the Belgian monk a few times and always had really good food but sadly this time we were left disappointed and hungry. Atmosphere- pop music in a Belgian pub. I have ran a Belgian pub before and pop music was never played. Especially missy Elliot and Taylor swift. The pub was freezing and the lady loo’s are just unfit for purpose and a hazard. Service - was slow and we could only see a few staff in, so we could understand the small delay in the drinks but not the waiting time on food. We waited over 40 minutes for our main after what was the most disappointing Camembert and what was not cranberry jam, they served pickle. The pork belly roast was so disappointing. I don’t understand how you can really mess up Sunday dinner. Over cooked roasted potatoes, soggy carrots, rock hard parsnips, red cabbage that was cold, over cooked broccoli and the small amount of gravy. The majority of the main was freezing. Only warm food on our plate was the pork and even then it had a really long hair in my Mine. My hair is brown and purple. This hair was jet black and I had to pull it from the meat in my mouth. The manager did take my meal off the bill. Overall, horrible experience, and considering we were the first people through the door at 12, I am shocked. I spent the afternoon vomiting after this meal

Great Belgian style pub with lots of atmosphere. Good place to come and try some different European style beers. Nice seating area around the back too.

It was to my surprise to find out a belgian beer garden with plenty dishes to accompany the thrist. Good selection of belgian beers, from blanche, cuvee to trappist. A reasonable range of food: from fried potato with mussles to roasted meat. This restaurant is located in an older part of Norwich, between the medieval lanes that once formed the city’s core, on a two staired renovated 17th century house. Worth to visit and enjoy the drink & food.

Great selection of beer as you'd expect, and the menu was good too - the mussels were fantastic, whether as a starter portion or main. Worth ordering dessert too, as they were lovely!

Popped in without a reservation and was lucky to get a seat, although was asked to move upstairs after 10 minutes so another customer could sit where we were and wasn’t sure why this was needed (although not complaining as we were happy to move). Unfortunately felt a little rushed with ordering but this was understandable since it was very busy, I was catching up with a friend and chatting away so would have appreciated a bit more time with the menu, especially since having looked at the menu online I’ve realised all the delicious things available that I didn’t actually see that I would have preferred (again not their fault as I should’ve looked closer!) I absolutely loved the look of this place and how cosy it feels. The food and drink is a delicious although a little expensive, but would definitely return to try more of their menu!

A nice little spot service some great food and drink with an amazing atmosphere. The Belgian Monk is a great spot if you want to have a nice pint in the outdoor beer garden in the summer, or if you want to chill out and have some amazing Belgian cuisine. Food is great and the staff are really friendly. Highly recommend.

Let me put the 3 stars into context immediately… I’m into my beer, and when a venue advertises that they are the only U.K. ‘ambassador’ for a beer, I want to visit to try that beer. Said beer in this case was Pais Deux, however on arrival we found that the beer was off. There goes the first star. I then looked at the draught guest beers to find the all time classic Delirium. That was off too. There goes the second star. So I ordered a bottle of Belgian IPA from Prearis, which tasted tired and old. Upon asking to see the bottle, it was out of date by 3 months. There goes another star. That being said they did change it for an in date one so *ping* that star is back! The food? It was decent, a fairly ‘classic’ Belgian offering with some straight up traditional dishes (fish & chips and burgers) Unfortunately the place was relatively empty but we did book in advance and this is advisable on a weekend Also, I’m not a fan of automatic service charges being added to bills, I’d much rather reward the service if it was good (it was). Kudos for also giving us a bottle of beer to take away as an apology for the missing draught beers. Worth a visit if you like this sort of thing, just don’t get your hopes up on the beer offering

Epic little Belgian bar with classic food and a beautiful beer list. Close to the northern hotels and the canal. Great garden at the back. Booking is advised as we’ve seen loads of folks turned away looking for larger tables. Tip: Get the Tartiflette and add the spicy sausages on top. (Lacking ham in our portion - totally fixed it)

Always a fabulous place! Clearly the prices reflect this somewhat, but I have never found myself truly shocked by the final bill as the quality of the food is simply excellent. Please keep up the good work!

Had the roast dinners, which aren't as cheap as some you can get, but the quality is fantastic. And there is a lot of food on the plate. Can recommend the belly pork. Wasn't so keen on the Yorkshire pud, but I think that's down to personal preference - I prefer smaller non crispy as opposed to large. Can also recommend the cheesecake. They originally sat us next to the toilets (a thing that I believe NO restaurant should ever do), but very nicely moved us when I asked. Good selection of Belgium ales.

Such an amazing pub! I loved the style. Food was delicious and finally something different than in most of pubs. Waffle for dessert - no words. It was mastership. Staff was so nice and the prices affordable!

Excellent selection of Belgian beer - managed to try a few I haven’t come across before! Friendly staff too who are happy to help you decide which beer to go for. Also had a meal here - we meant to have mussels but unfortunately they ran out by the time we went, so ordered something else instead (pie).

It’s a very cute little old restaurant building with two levels and a basement, that of a medieval design. We had wines and pan fried liver and beef stew. Both come with stoemp, a typical mashed potato with cream and veg. I find the liver over fried and beef a little too tough. I asked for a non dairy stoemp which the restaurant kindly provided. Wasn’t too impressed with the food but wines are good.

Beautiful building, but a bit tight seating indoors, upstairs better, has second bar up there too. Food without salt, made it tasteless even after putting salt on, my boyfriend enjoyed his meal more. Had traditional potatoe dish (massive portion) and meatballs. Definitely perfect place to sample lots of different beers

Great for beer. Decent for food. We went as a big party and found some menu items to be quite small and it seems the chef took offence at someone wanting their burger well done and not pink in the middle as it could have doubled as a doorstop. 4 stars because of portion sizes being quite different. Can't deduct anything for the burger. I would have done the same.

Delicious fillet steak with blue cheese sauce, tartiflette and a side of red cabbage. Boar burger equally tasty, nice fresh condiments and salad. Welcoming service, covid on the ball and organised. Fantastic selection of beers. A few extra chicken dishes might be good for non red meat eaters but the variety was fantastic generally. Very large portions, glad we didn't have a starter! Arrive hungry! Thoroughly recommended. Enjoyed the modern background music too.

Good food and a great selection of beers. We had tried a few already as part of the #BeersInTheCabin but was good to be able to try some new ones. Friendly staff too helped with the whole atmosphere.

Normally nice food but burger over cooked and bun burnt. Such a shame. Also a smile can go a long way.

Great selection of beers including 3 faves. Proper Belgian frites with mayonnaise and a good two-meal lunch deal. Nice Belgian ambiance, and menu in Flemish (if you must) very nice staff.
