Great historic pub, one of three with a claim to be the oldest in Nottingham. Good beer options. Caves sound interesting, but I didn't have enough time to explore, one for a future visit.

Absolutely best pub I’ve ever been in. As a biker, rock and metal fanatic this place absolutely fits my bill. Met many good friends and made more here, the music is always top notch, the prices are beyond reasonable for centre of Nottingham and the staff are always excellent. Proud to call this my favourite local despite living 14 miles away! DALE

Probably the best rock pub I know, excellent selection of music, excellent beer selection, a must visit place for metalheads and bikers. Although they are welcoming to all comers be advised that unless you are into the rock/metal ethos you may feel a little out of place

I went into this pub for my birthday and the atmosphere was very tense. it felt as if the people in there didn't like new people and people even went as far as to take pictures of me mockingly because of how i see it fit to present myself, i was confronted by someone who claimed to be the owners son and he was rude and combative and asked me to leave for no particular reason

Awesome place for a drink, chilled, safe feeling atmosphere and friendly staff. Great selection of ales and well price food. I was really impressed with my burger which was nearly as tall as my pint. Found out there’s a live music venue upstairs so will be looking forward to revisit and watch some live bands.

Nottinghams most prominent, significant and historic Inn. Its pedigree could be rivalled by other city centre establishments which hale from the post-medieval era but it cannot be bettered. What the Sal is unrivalled for is its status as Nottinghams premier and most interesting late night music venue. A warm and friendly atmosphere in a well run pub with a superb range of drinks. The historic structure of the building has been maintained whilst sympethitcally extended into an important outdoor roof area with decking and seating. Very busy at times as the music nights are popular and the staff do a superb job. Faultless.

Great pub. The patron was a friendly man. Offered us a tour of his underground caves.. really worth the look.. amazing history and evidence to support it .. dates back to 7th century.. making it the oldest pub.. so so good..

Great pub for Rock and Metal, good selection of beers and ciders, friendly staff and surprisingly good food. Best mixed grill I've had with the biggest piece of steak, cooked medium rare which is unusual. Only complaint was the amount of chips, there were loads on my plate and in the separate portion we got for my wife, far too many between us. Love The Sal!

Lovely place. Popped in with he missus for a quick beer after visiting Nottingham. One of the few bars I've been in with rock/metal owners and the music to match. Seating outdoor in the sun outdoor in he shade or indoors too. Service was fast the drinks ice cold. Didn't order food and only looked at the burger menu but the prices were competitive and the choice was good. All types of people were in this bar and I would recommend it to anyone.

A very beautiful historical building with many tales to tell! We enjoyed visiting this establishment for the many ales it offered, and the heavy metal on the jukebox. A great selection of beers and spirits. Ask to try the California Reaper Vodka if you dare! We also visited the caves as part of the historical ghost walk, which was a fantastic experience. If the above interests you and you are in the area then you must visit this inn!

Great place, a real old fashioned spit and sawdust pub. I came to watch a band upstairs and the whole place had a great friendly vibe.

This historic pub has been up and down over the years. On my last visit it was definitely on the up again. The food was good value and great quality, the staff friendly and the beer choice was very good.

First visit to this establishment via word of mouth let's just say I was not disappointed. A fantastic venue!! I was made to feel very welcome by the regulars and the staff. This is not your typical biker bar it's great and not intimidating at all... A return visit is planned in February.

Still a rock venue after all these years. An eclectic mix of characters on Saturday lunchtime. Ist barman who served us was fab. I must be getting old as the music was far too loud for me (never have liked thrash) so I cdn't hear my mate telling me all his latest goss! Drinks resonably priced. Didn't have food but other people's looked yum.

City centre pub, if you are an aging rocker or biker type this is for you. Great staff who are really friendly. I was once chatted up by a biker girl here, her leather glad boyfriend was nearby so I didn't hang around for long one evening. They serve good drinks including ales from local indi brewers, I enjoyed Harvest Gold. No parking for card motorcycles can park up on the pavement. Short walk from main centre and near the Castle and other Ye old Pubs. Loads of history attached with caves beneath.

Amazing Pub 🍻 always good to go to. Thanks to all the staff team for making the place so great 👍. Keep up the great work.

Went here cause it's top rated but I wasn't extremely impressed by the ribs that we had. Service is 3/5 or 4/5. We might've just got there at the wrong time of the day or something. Otherwise, great atmosphere. I'm sure a lot of other people had better experience, I'm just not one of them

Four of us stopped by this place the other day due to the historical stories and to have some lunch. The chicken burgers were delicious. We followed on from lunch by asking if we could go into the caves underneath the pub and were led down by a lovely chap with a snazzy beard who was funny and informative at the same time. Thanks for the good memories, and experiences! Will definitely come again in the near future.

We stopped by this pub in Nottingham for a lunch break. They do absolutely amazing chicken burgers and the drinks were really nice too. The atmosphere was lovely and the staff was really friendly. We also got to see a bit of the caves that are lying underneath the pub and got guided by a really friendly chap with a cool beard! Thank you for the amazing experience!

Just happened upon this old historical pub that happens to have a metal music venue upstairs. Had a great meal and so a fantastic metal show while here. One worker also offered to let me see the caves below, though I didn't have the time. Stop in this place!

Best rock pub in the country; excellent range at decent prices and the staff are fantastic. I've literally changed my work schedule so I can land in Nottingham more often based purely on my experience here. Killer soundtrack.

I come here a lot with my friends. The staff are lovely - You can tell they're like family. The drink prices are reasonable and I've always felt welcomed! There are also quite a few events that go on there but I always seem to miss them but it is the place to go! Especially if you enjoy the rock and metal scene!
