Huckleberry loop is a very nice trail. Majority of the trail is under shade. Start heading in the lower part (left of the fork) if you want an easier hike back (specially if you bring your kids, which we saw a number along the trail). Start heading the upper part of the loop (right of the fork) if you want a more challenging hike back. A hike in the spring will treat you with nice flowers. There's a only a few spots in the parking lot but there's a vault toilet. You can also park on the side of the road outside the parking lot.

Got there early on a weekend (7:30ish) and there were many parking spots in the lot. 1 stall restroom facility w/o running water is available by the entrance. Lots of mist in the beginning of the hike that burned off after a while. Great signage and beautiful manzanitas.

This trail has been on my priority list for a while now and thankfully I waited till this time of the year as Fall has just sprinkled its wonder all over these already magical trails. As I arrived, my son also decided to join me so I hiked one trail and waited for him. We had so much fun today 09/30/22 as he pushed me to hike to the peak and complete all 4 trails. Sibley trail was challenging for me going from the lower Huckleberry trail. The view of the Bay is absolutely gorgeous from this trail. Enjoy.

Huckleberry Botanic Preserve boasts a gorgeous variety of rare native plants on nicely maintained trails. Walking through the canopies of manzanitas and oaks, you’ll find the critically endangered pallid manzanitas with their red bark, and dozens of massive canyon live oaks. Ferns cover the hillside, growing around the pervasive giant bay trees. The upper trail is almost completely flat, with the lower trail being more strenuous with steps. If you visit, be sure to read the informational signs, and don’t take or disrupt any of the plants.

It's just a little down the hill from the Sibley volcanic entry and overall it's a lot easier navigate Trails system for me. I might change that if I were to bother to look at the maps that are provided but I usually Got There Before Sunrise so that I could get to the Overlook to take pictures and it was dark so I just dealt with it. I encountered numerous hummingbirds on the ridge overlooking the valley and got some truly epic photographs which I don't know whether I will add them here or not. All in all it smelled wonderful with the eucalyptus and other trees. There were a plethora of birds amongst the foliage they got very close. It's possible that there are cougars nearby because I heard a sound ice cream that reminded me of cougars and then I saw the sign that says that they are in fact around. There were several intersecting trails and I will say to remember that what you go down easily you will have to climb back on your way up LOL or somebody not in the greatest shape that might be a little strenuous but I also saw a very elderly gentleman who clearly had lung issues out there so if speed is an issue tenaciousness May suffice. All in all I absolutely love this park and visited it as much as I could while I was working out here. As an aside the views of Oakland and the Bay Area from the road on the way back down where spectacular as well. My phone is not able to do justice to The View. Parking is limited to about 10 cars in the parking lot the rest were parking on the road so if you want a spot for sure definitely get there early. There is a bathroom and it was open when I was there to be used just off of the parking lot. There's an upper and lower Trail I never did the lower Trail so I can't talk about that although it looked very Lush. The upper Trail was wonderful in every aspect though it might be difficult for somebody who doesn't have good balance at times.

A wonderful local hike of moderate difficulty through hilly terrain with stands of trees and ferns and other native vegetation. Views out to Mt Diablo and the east bay hills. We hiked on a weekday morning and saw only a few other people. Recommended.

Nice challenging trail. We did the lower Huckleberry to upper Huckleberry loop. A lot of beautiful foliage, stairs, inclines, and great view. It was a little confusing on which way to go. Wish they had more signs with mileage and better directions.

Beautiful preserve! I hiked up on the ridge. Next time I'll try the creekside trail.

Absolutely beautiful place to drive through.. the houses are insane and gorgeous... You literally drive into a garage which is the very top floor of the house and then the rest of the house is below that because the houses are all built into the sides of the mountains. So interesting to see and look at.. I would highly recommend the drive during sunrise or sunset. You can pull off on to the sides at the top of the mountain and watch the sun rise/set. We went to Grizzly Peak and it was well worth it. Highly recommend visiting this place!!!! 🫢🏻🫡🏻🫰🏻

This my favorite East bay hike! I like making a loop where I start at huckleberry and then go up through Sibley and walk briefly on the side of the road to get back to the huckleberry lot. Gorgeous and so relaxing

A challenging trail for older beginners, but a couple of longer and longer attempts puts the casual walker in excellent position to complete the entire Huckleberry circuit trail. Attractions range from unique microclimate habitats, canyon wall walking trail and canyon vistas to rare and unusual flora.

Beautiful loop trail with educational fact plaques along the 1 and a half or so mile loop. Great for a day out hiking for family...KID friendly! Good for a solo Zen hike, fun with friends or a date! Weekends are more crowded and parking may be limited by noon.

Beautiful, perfect spot for a quick hike or walk. At just under 2 miles, it was the perfect length combined with elevation changes for the little pick me up you may need without too much exertion. The scenery is fantastic and full of Informative signs on plant species including the rare pallid manzanita. Definitely a nature lovers trail. Do be cautious and pay attention though to where you step as there are plenty of natural trip hazards along the way. The trail is also narrow so remember to be courteous with your fellow hikers. I enjoyed my time here and look forward to doing it again when I am back.
