Redwood Bowl Staging Area

Tourist attraction Hiking area

👍👍 This area was great to take my older parents, who can't do the steep inclines elsewhere in the park. Relatively flat walk ways to see redwoods. Benches and parking aplenty. People often mention dogs, leash, trails,

Beautiful redwoods and beautiful views can be found here. There are many trails that intertwine so it is easy to get lost. Make sure to use your map and mark where you parked. Parking lots open at 8am. Don't leave any valuables in your car. This is a busy place. Dogs are welcome.

Lovely space to hike that smells INCREDIBLE. You can watch the mist rolling off the moss, climb tall trees, bounce about on soft earth and smell, really smell the bay leaves, redwoods and tart blackberries trodden underfoot. Also a celebration of life ceremony was taking place near here, but its so big you could hardly hear them.

We went down Madrone Trail and back up through Redwood Peak Trail. It was about a 2.5 mile hike. It was nice and shady. It was very steep on the way back. At the beginning of the trail they have a nice picnic area with a water fountain. It's great for dogs. I'm not sure if it's on or off leash but almost everyone had their dogs off leash.

These are great trails! They're well marked. They offer a ton of shade and some really nice views of the Bay. Not owning a horse, I can't comment too much on the staging area itself, but it's seems like a decent size to me. I was there on a Saturday at noon and there was only one person using it, so I doubt it's ever really crowded.

Another beautiful hike. Along the way saw some racers..... They were really moving FAST. After that saw a couple guys trying to break into a car. Be careful and don't leave anything about, apparently this happens often

Beautiful park, one of my favorite hiking areas in Oakland to enjoy redwoods, small streams, and either shaded or sunny hiking. Very dog friendly, almost all are off leash and friendly, I would not come here with a aggressive dog that doesn’t enjoy other dogs coming up to it to say hello. Everyone who hikes here are so friendly, I really enjoy the vibe. However yesterday we had an unfortunate event with a police officer who was surveying the parking lot. We parked right next to the entrance of the trail (literally the first spot) and my dog was off leash but controlled and we walked to our car. The officer, a young Caucasian lady, came all the way from the back of the lot to us just to give us a “warning” that dogs must be on leash, while our dogs were already in our car. I felt we were targeted due to our age or race, since we met a couple of off leash dogs on our way to the parking lot, none of the owners (who were older and Caucasian) warned us about an officer giving warnings for off leash dogs. I would appreciate if the officers would do actual work rather than harassing hikers who are simply enjoying their day. I’ve been hiking here for YEARS and this is the first problematic encounter I’ve had with police. I hope they stop coming to harass a very peaceful and enjoyable recreational spot. Rangers / workers here are friendly and never once was warned or stopped for my off leash dogs.

A little dusty in July but shaded and cool under the trees. Great place to visit with your dog - off leash hiking trails abound. We met tons of fellow dog owners who were friendly and cool along the trails. We will be back!

Fantastic local park with plenty of trails featuring redwoods. The fact that most trails are off-leash areas for dogs is a super nice bonus. Wasn't too crowded either

Great place for a walk in nature. Plenty of shade on the sunny days. Decent volume of parking spots.

This is my favorite place to take off from for Redwood Regional. The picnic area is amazing and has a ton of space and there are a ton of varieties of trails to take off on from this spot ranging from easy to hard based on distance and how far down you go into the valley. I love to take my dog out here!
