Very nice hike across this place. Might be crowded on sunny days. Populär place amongst families. Sometimes you need to wait to let others pass, it is narrow partially. Would bot recommend to go there after a heavy rain because of slippery wooden bridges and stepways. You can do a good round starting there and climbing "Drachenschlucht" up to "Hohe Sonne", then head for "Luisengotte" and "Elfengrotte". Will result in a 14km tour. Wear good shoes for trails. The shortest way to see the Drachenschlucht is a 4km tour either from Eisenach (parking on lots along B19) or downwards from Hohe Sonne. Not suitable for wheelchairs. Other disabled visitors may need assistance.

Easy, a little muddy. The canyon is really impressive, especially when the torrent is strong after a heavy rain. 10 minutes walk though it is not well indicated. The hill on the other side of the road is also really nice.

This was a great day out and if you in the location a must visit. From the bottom to the top took us about 1 hour and it's quite a challenge, but there is some good rest stops along the way. Parking is on the main road opposite the main entrance which is not so obvious. Great also for the kids.

I had high expectations seeing the pictures, less when I saw the full parking, but even during holiday season we were often alone in one of the many amazing canyon parts! Definitely worth a visit.

My oldest daughter proclaimed this to be one of the coolest hikes of her life! It was magical. The path to the dragon gorge and waterfall is relatively flat, turn around an go back if you can't do stairs. However if you continue past the gorge it will take you up several sets of stairs to the top of the mountain where there is a Brat and Beer garden with Ice cream too. Highly recommend it if your in the area! Loved the time we spent on this mountain.

(Translated by Google) Very nice gorge, well developed, great for hot days. Unfortunately, the last part is quite exhausting when you have already hiked through the whole gorge. I wouldn't take small children with me.

(Translated by Google) Very beautiful hiking routes. Could be better signposted though. Hiking equipment is not mandatory. If it has rained before, waterproof footwear or hiking boots are recommended.

(Translated by Google) We walked down through the gorge here from the Hohe Sonne parking lot and I have to say that next time I would walk from the bottom up. Because most people start at the bottom. So no one comes towards you, which is difficult to dodge on the narrow rocky sections. Otherwise it's really nice to hike through and it's nice and green right now in summer. If it has rained, hiking shoes are recommended.

Very very beautiful 😻 you must just enjoy atmosphere and breathe deep on. There is Bus from Eisenach you can take to get there. Suggest for group traveling or solo also with children would be really interesting. You can walk between the trees 🌲 and tiny waterfall. You can take really good photos and videos. I hope you visit there with your 49 euro Deutschland Ticket

Top! Definetly worth the walk. No problem with dog. About 3 km from Mariental parking to Hohe Sonne parking. A bus back is possible, but check schedule as it is not frequent.

Interesting and quite easy hike so you can go with childrens, it could take about 3-4 h. If you choose a short way but this short way is enough and you will see everything what you come for.

(Translated by Google) Definitely worth seeing! Imposing rocks along a sometimes very narrow path. Partial footbridges under which the water ripples along. Otherwise, sturdy, closed shoes are necessary, as the path is often very "watery" and muddy, this leads slowly at the beginning and very steeply uphill at the end. At the highest point of the circular route, there is a wonderful view of the Wartburg. (Original) Sehr sehenswert!

It's partly closed due to construction, but the best parts are still open. We started our journey here and then went to Wartburg. It was a nice trail, and the view on the castle is better from this side (also there aren't so many other people like at the front)

Awesome little walk through the forest then coming to a beautiful gorge. Track is in go condition with a metal grate path through the gorge over the small creak running through it. From the carpark we parked at it was a shirt easy walk and well worth it.

Very nice and outstanding rocks I have ever seen. The point on the map is start point of the path. These rocks are a little bit further.

(Translated by Google) Definitely worth a trip. Sturdy shoes are an advantage, because it can get wet and slippery at times. We parked our car on the side of the road at the end of the town after the Wartburg and headed towards Hohe Sonne and back via the Elfengrotte. I think arriving early is a safe bet good parking lot and you also have something from the gorge, later it gets bustling. You can take a rest at the Hohe Sonne grill, good Thuringian and drinks.

We hiked this trail with two children. Paths are a little confusing but once we found it the hike took about 3 hours. This amazing gem of nature is a must visit if you're in the area. Parking is accessible also for RV. We never reached the coffee house at the end of the trail as it was already closed for the day

Beautiful experience.. I'm not a huge fan of hiking, but the view and the path is amazing, also doable for untrained people... Absolutely to recommend!

Very unique excursion, following the river and literally on top of the river inside the gorge! A must see if you are close by! Also really recommended to go with kids!

The place was very scenic..We trekked from Dragon Gorge to Wartburg castle which was around 2-3 kms and the way through the forest was really awesome.

Beautiful place to visit. The recommended time to go is in the morning around the afternoon it becomes crowded.

  • 5/5 Anton L. 1 year ago on Google
Nice place but sometimes overcrowded. You should care about parking and take extra shoes. They can be very dirty because it's always wet in the canyon.
