For hyper-touristy Hakone, this place was a gem. Located a short 20 min bus ride from MotoHakone, you get to experience a true onsen Ryokan. Please, don't be a rude westerner though: wash yourself up head to toe in the indoor bath showers before using the indoor and outdoor onsen! Food was amazing. Pheasant is the Ryokan specialty. 5/5. Only rooms could need a refresh but it adds to the charm.

AMAZING. this Ryokan is amazing. The location- Its easy to find, and to travel too and from using the bus system. The staff is friendly and helpful. The Hostess has amazing english skills and the woman who helped us with our room was sweet and kind. The same woman helped us the whole time we stayed. Dinner and breakfast were served in our room and was so fancy and tasty. It was a multiple course meal based on the hotels speciality - phesant. We were able to order wonderful sake as well. Breakfast was just as grand and interesting. For 4 tourists it was an experience we will never forget. The baths. They have indoor and outdoor baths as well as baths in the room. You can reserve private time in the baths which we did. We also had a bath in the morning. The outdoor bath was extremely hot and all pain from the day melted away. the outdoor bath sits right next to a mountain creek, so the view and sounds are simply incredible. There is also a garden you can walk thru, and seats to sit and just relax in nature. The rooms were warm, clean and comfortable. The tatami feels great, and there was plenty of space for all 4 of our party to relax. If you go to Hakone I absolutely recomend this Ryokan.

Excellent service. Personal bath in the room was a bit too dark for comfort. Food was pretty good. I loved the tofu. The pheasants dish was very interesting. The open bath was really nice, albeit it attracted some bugs (mostly spider) but that was to be expected. Indoor bath was spacious; it also have a waiting room with complimentary tea for hydration.

Amazing place that's only 5 mins by bus from hakone yumoto Station. The bus trip is covered by the hakone free pass, but there's ample taxis as well if needed. Place is very private, and the staff do try to anticipate your needs like a 5 or 6 star hotel. Very family and kids friendly, while also being nice and quiet beside a river. Dinner and breakfast was served in the rooms and were delicious. Having been to many ryokans in Hakone, this will be my choice for a kids friendly option. The extra cost was worth it.

Very good traditional Ryokan, that is specialized in pheasant dishes. Service is extremely friendly, the rooms are very spacious and clean in a traditional style. There are indoor and outdoor baths available - the outdoor ones can be reserved for private baths in the evening. Sadly during our stay the kitchen staff got sick, but they were very fast to organise alternatives and drove us to other hotels for dinner and breakfast.

We found this hotel through the Chase travel portal! We wanted to stay at a traditional ryokan, so we decided to book at Kijitei Hoeiso. Since the location was remote from the hustle and bustle of Hakone, we were able to enjoy Mount Hakone peacefully. We booked the "Superior View Room" for 2. The room was huge with a lot of space for just the two of us, so if you're looking for spacious look no further! As we arrived, they offered us our hotel slippers and stored our outdoors shoes. We were sat in the lobby and offered a light snack with tea! Our room had the same beautiful view of the mountain as the lobby. They provided pheasant-focused dinner and breakfast. Most of the food was delicious, however, few dishes were not easy for our western palate. Mind you, we did finish everything. Since we stayed one night, we were allotted a time slot for the outdoor hot spring! I believe our time was 10:30pm, and it was so nice being able to have the bath just for us two. However, there are times outside of the reservation slots where the baths are public separate for men and women. They also have an indoor bath if you prefer to stay indoors. We did both for the experience! We enjoyed both settings. The employees were all very friendly and spoke enough English to where we can communicate everything without a translator! There is a $3 spring bath fee at the end. As we were leaving, they all came out waved and bowed us on our way. I highly recommend Kijitei Hoeiso for the true traditional ryokan experience in Japan!

After 5 years staying in this place, I can still remember every single detail of it. It was such an excellent experience. Such a silent, romantic and lovely place! That kind dinner service inside the room, relaxing in the hot pool beside the river at night, the views in the morning! Amazing place.

Wonderful service and beautiful location. The staff was very helpful and kind. We arrived well before our check-in time and the staff helped us catch the bus to Hakone and held on to our luggage until we checked in.

A bit out of the way, but if you want peace and quiet, comfortable Japanese rooms and lovely food then this is a great option. A huge plus are the onsen which have both indoor and outdoor options.

Lovely traditional ryokan to stay in but it’s not very easy to walk to the main town. It’s on a country lane and although it has a bus stop right outside, they don’t run that regularly which can make it difficult to get anywhere quickly. Very helpful stuff and lovely private onsen to try out.

This place is beautiful. The staff is your typical Japanese uber-polite, service-oriented team. They seem so pleased to be welcoming you into their 'home' and helping you have a perfect stay. The room is made up of three main areas - the dining/living area, the sleeping area and a semi-outdoor area. All of it spotlessly clean. You're served breakfast and dinner in your room in a traditional Japanese style. There's an indoor hot spring-fed bath and a gorgeous outdoor hot spring overlooking the nearby river. Slide yourself in and watch all your stresses just melt away!

Great stay! The food was wonderful and baths super relaxing. Rooms are very spacious and made you feel like you stepped back in time. Overall worth the price to feel relaxed, enjoy fancy kaiseki, and be surrounded by hills and trees. The outdoor baths are near the river and forest which is very peaceful. Had a 30 minute private bath in the outdoor onsen each night. Every morning the indoor onsen was great because showers were also provided. They also provide cold barley tea to rehydrate after the baths.

I have to say, this ryokan is one of the best in Hakone. From the moment you enter Hoeiso, you will see a beautiful Hakone scenery through the large windows in the lobby where you stay for minutes before you are guided to the room. The staff were definitely fantastic, room we stayed was spacious, peaceful, comfortable. Food, we had for dinner and breakfast was a great, tasty selection. The 2 meals were delivered to the room which we could enjoy eating in the private space. It was my girlfriend’s birthday when we checked in. I asked Hoeiso through the booking.com messenger that if i could send a cake to the address and if they could prepare a pair of small dishes, forks and wine glasses in the room because I was going to bring some bottles of wine. They had no problem at all with it and even when they brought the cake after our dinner, they put it on the such a lovely dish so the cake looked much better! Onsen, I tried it the next morning. It was so clean and tidy everywhere. That morning onsen was one of the best onsen experiences in my life.

Great experience in a traditional Japanese Ryokan. Our room was very comfortable. The building itself could use some updating (paint job etc). Loved the outdoor onsen (would be better if you could bathe outside rather than have to do it inside first). The staff were incredible! So welcoming and kind.

My wife and I stayed one night here and absolutely loved it. Very friendly staff, spoke English well enough, rooms and facilities were very clean, and the gotod was awesome. The outdoor onsen was a definite highlight as well. We highly recommend you sign up for the morning tour where the owner of the ryokan will drive you around the area early in the morning (530am). We managed to get great photos of Mt Fuji and nearby temples while on the tour and learned a lot speaking with him. We would not hesitate to book here again in the future.

An awesome ryokan experience with amazing hot springs! Very nice ryokan, our room maid was very kind, the food was delicious. There is a lovely view over the mountain from the room's window. The hot springs are the best we had during our trip in Japan. They are located close to a river and you can privatise them. The hotel is a bit isolated in the nature. There is pretty much nothing around. However there is a bus station just in front of it. You can easily go to the lake Ashinoko by bus. The Hakone open air museum is a bit farther (the train is currently being replaced by a bus). The staff was super kind and helpful.

Great experience in this ryokan! Impeccable service,l from the staff. Even only the food is worth staying for: multiple courses meals (traditional kaiseki) with local and seasonal ingredients. The outdoor onsen can be booked for private time, and it's breath taking: just near the river. I recommend asking the owner for the early morning tour of the area: it starts at 5.30am and he will drive you around to catch a view of Mt Fuji, the lake, the shrine and a really old tea house. No tourists around in that time, so it's perfect for nice pictures and quiet wondering. The futon are comfy and freshly made every night. The room is huge and has a nice wide window overlooking the forest. The only downside is that the place is not wheelchair accessible, and while we requested a vegetarian menu we got fish in our suppers.

Stayed for the night. They were accommodating for English speakers, but knowing some Japanese made the stay much better. Indoor bath experience was good. No issues. We reserved the outdoor bath at night, which was a bad idea because it was pitch dark, so there was no view to enjoy. Rooms were big enough for 4 people. Dinner and breakfast service in our room was excellent. I wished they provided more water for us to drink.

Thank you for your hospitality and great food. It has been 3 years since we visited Japan. My family still speaks fondly of our experiences at your establishment.
