The Alte Brücke, meaning "Old Bridge," is an iconic landmark in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Spanning the River Main, it is one of the city's oldest and most important bridges. With its rich history and architectural grandeur, the Alte Brücke holds a special place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike. Originally constructed in the 12th century, the Alte Brücke has undergone several reconstructions and renovations over the centuries. It played a vital role in connecting the city's two banks and facilitating trade and transportation along the River Main. The bridge witnessed significant historical events, including the coronation processions of Holy Roman Emperors. The Alte Brücke's design combines elements of both Gothic and Renaissance architecture, creating a visually striking structure. Its stone arches and intricate detailing showcase the craftsmanship of the past and evoke a sense of awe and admiration. Today, the Alte Brücke stands as a symbol of Frankfurt's resilience and history. It serves as a picturesque pedestrian bridge, allowing visitors to take leisurely strolls while enjoying panoramic views of the river and the city's skyline. The bridge's vibrant atmosphere, lined with street performers, vendors, and cafes, creates a lively and inviting ambiance. The Alte Brücke is not just a physical connection between two riverbanks but also a cultural and historical link that brings together the past and present of Frankfurt. It represents the city's enduring spirit and serves as a reminder of its rich heritage.

A bridge suitable for taking pictures with the view of the Main river. Even if the weather is not cloudy and the ships are moving, better results can be achieved. It is within walking distance of the center and Zeil. Swans or seagulls can also be guests in your photo frame!

Great bridge to take great photos of Frankfurt. Also it's very elegant as architectural. It should be seen both in daylight and in the dark. Have fun!

My favourite bridge on Main river! It offers the closest view towards both the cathedral and the financial district of Frankfurt! Bonus is the beautiful statue of Charlemagne, admiring the view! The bridge connects the old town-historical center with Sachsenhausen district.

Took a stroll on the Main riverfront on a cold, cloudy day in February 2023. The Alte Brücke is a great place to take in views of Frankfurt.

In and by itself, the bridge has nothing spectacular and serves its function of connecting the two sides of River Main. However, walking along the bridge, you can get a great view of the skyscrapers and the famous skyline of the city, the Dom, and the European Central Bank building to the north and east, To the south, the view is less interesting but you can get a glimpse of a few landmarks like the closely Ev. Dreikonigskirche and the further away New Henninger Tower. Moreover, you can watch boats and barges going up- or down-stream, water sport activities on the river or people running or cycling along the banks.

Beautiful bridge with view of the business district. If you look closely, you might even find the statue of the cockerel that was apparently sacrificed to the devil in return for being allowed to access the other side of the river.

I'd say it's not the prettiest bridge. Others are better in Frankfurt. But it has nice view of the skyline.

Nice bridge! Not too crowded and has a good sunset if you wait for it. It is a bit overlooking the city center so it’s a very good spot for picture taking.
