Alte Oper is a concert hall in Frankfurt am Main, Hesse, Germany. It is located in the inner city, Innenstadt, within the banking district Bankenviertel. Today's Alte Oper was built in 1880 as the city's opera house, which was destroyed by bombs in 1944. It was rebuilt in the 1970s as a concert hall with a large hall and smaller venues, opened in 1981. The square in front of the building is still known as Opernplatz. Many important works were performed for the first time when it was Frankfurt's opera house, including Schreker's Der ferne Klang and Carl Orff's Carmina Burana in 1937. The Oper Frankfurt now plays in the Opern- und Schauspielhaus Frankfurt, completed in 1951.

One of the most under-rated places in Frankfurt. Best time to visit is in the evenings because of the light effects. Good place to chill out, nice sitting area, fountain and open space. 20-30 mins is more than enough.

Gestern zu „3 Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel“ - war fantastisch. Guter Service, 3 Reihe vorne sehr guter Klang. Waren schon mal zu einem Konzert in der Alten Oper, das war so unterirdisch vom Klang her das wir frühzeitig abgereist sind. Preise an der Bar nichts für den normalen Geldbeutel. Da bin ich zu geizig zu…

Nice place to enjoy the music. All the staff in it are nice and kind and patience. They can offer English help. The performances in it are very high level. I listen to flute+Guitar concert, The young artists are very talented. Their performance moved me to tears. Then I listen to a Director competition award event. Those two young artists are talented too. Although if It is not a competition, and they have more time to practice together, the performance would be better. Above all, even if you don't know the artist, you can buy the ticket and you will definitely enjoy the music.

As a composer of classical music, I‘ve visited the place countless times over the past 7 years. The architecture of the building is beautiful. Both on the inside and outside. The surrounding area is kind of a mixed bag, though. Throughout the day it’s mostly crowded with tourist. I don’t like that at all. That’s why I only visit the place in the afternoon, when all the tourists go to bed and the concerts begin. I can understand that tourists want to take pictures of the place but many of the folks that crowd the area are just loitering teens aka locals. Can’t relate.

The Old Opera House Frankfurt. A piece of Frankfurter history in the modern world. Magnificent building, restaurant and parking available at the Alte Oper. In summer it’s beautiful due to the water fountain. There is a guy who blows amazing colourful bubbles infront of the Alte Oper, an unforgettable experience for kids. One of the Frankfurter landmarks

One of the cultural highlights of my Frankfurt trip was "The Sound of Ennio Morricone" concert at this venue. The evening was a profound homage to Morricone's genius, with each note played echoing in the grand halls, transporting us through his iconic film scores. The setting, rich in history and beauty, made the experience unforgettable, reminding us of the power of music to transcend time and space.

Alte Oper (Old Opera) is a concert hall in Frankfurt am Main, Hesse, Germany. The square in front of the building is still known as Opernplatz (Opera Square). The Oper Frankfurt (Frankfurt Opera) is one of the leading opera companies in Europe, and voted best "Opera house of the year" several times since 1996, including 2020. Opera in Frankfurt am Main has a long tradition, with many world premieres such as Franz Schreker's Der ferne Klang in 1912, Fennimore und Gerda by Frederick Delius in 1919, and Carl Orff's Carmina Burana in 1937. Frankfurt's international recognition began in the Gielen Era, 1977 to 1987, when Michael Gielen and stage directors such as Ruth Berghaus collaborated. A historic opera house from 1880 was destroyed in World War II, and reconstructed as a concert hall, Alte Oper. The present opera house, built in 1963, is under one roof with the stage for drama. The opera orchestra is calledFrankfurter Opern- und Museumsorchester. Today's venue for Baroque and contemporary opera is the Bockenheimer Depot, a former tram depot. Oper Frankfurt is part of the Städtische Bühnen Frankfurt.

Saw the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain performing at Alte Oper recently, which is a beautiful venue in midtown Frankfurt, a short walk from the Taunusanlage S-Bahn stop. Alternatively, you can reach it via the U-Bahn network, at the Alte Oper stop. Check out local events outlets for news of shows at the Alte Oper - the options are endless. Give yourself enough time to enjoy a drink at the bar beforehand, as drinks cannot be taken into the concert hall itself.

Stunning historic building from the 19th century. Apparently it was bombed during the war, but the external area survived and the internal area was rebuilt in a lovely modern style. It is beautiful inside and out. At night the area around is lit up by beautiful street lamps. The staff were friendly, helpful and spoke good English (as mein Deutsche is a bit sketchy). We visited in April '23 and booked to see West Side Story - with an American cast. Fabulous show. Well worth visiting the Alte Oper as they have a great schedule of events and performances. You can drinks inside of course, but there are many restaurants and places to get a drink in the immediate area.

Unsere Oper This is ‚our‘ Frankfurt citizens Opera house and proud that the last generation rebuilt it and saved it from destruction. It shows the love of Frankfurters for culture and the arts. Went on a recent visit to see Berlin Berlin, which was a stunning performance in cultured ambience (including half time dancing in front of the Opera)

This was one of the landmarks of my personal trip to city Frankfurt am Main and when I saw it from the Main Tower, my determination is quite positive to walk there to create my photo memory (because it looked like there was an event on that day?). Due to time constraint, I did not enter this theater yet it's quite fresh to me to see a local group activity at plaza in front of Alte Oper Frankfurt.

My neighborhood. It feels so nice to see the opera building on the way to home. There is most of the time some events in front. You can just enjoy by sitting next to the fountain. My happy place <3

Went there for a Graduation and the whole Event was magnificently organized and beautifully set. The sound was exceptionally good, such as the music and the lighting. The tables were set beautifully, which name tags, decorations, beautiful plates and everything well organized. We had a three course dinner, including a magnificent service and high quality delicious food. Even though my demand were very high that day, the server were immensely kind and helpful and gave in to all the needs. The whole place was immaculate, such as the service offered. Amazing experience, would definitely recommend the Alte Oper for an Event! Very elegant, tasteful and a one of a kind experience and place.

Wonderful music and great quality. It misses the charm of a classic opera building, but the acoustic is great for instruments.

The hall itself is architecturally very nice: classical from outside and very modern inside. But at classical music concert we felt like due to the architectural specifics not all the sounds from the piece were coming through to the listeners and were silenced.

Wonderful venue for an Orchestra to perform. We had upper left of stage seats which were excellent and we could see and hear the orchestra and the pianist clearly. The building is beautiful both inside and out and the staff are there to assist you in any way they can. Extremely comfortable for drinks before and during the interval. Overall a wonderful evening. Highly recommended.

A must visit part of Frankfurt City. Alte Oper plays dramas and such artistic shows mostly in German Language. The place is Gothic, and adorable. A visit of the courtyard of Alte Oper is also a mind freshener. During summer, one would all the more enjoy a stroll around Alte Oper. The place is very easily accessible by public transport.

Historically beautiful building. I had seen the Frankfurt Opera for the first time as a child in the 70s when it was still a ruin with some parts of the facade. After World War II, the Alte Oper was rebuilt in 1981. The place around the Opera and the nearby luxury shopping streets and Restaurants Cafes Bars are worth a visit. Especially when there are street parties. So don't miss it. Opera Frankfurt Main Germany

Fantastic location for business lunches at noon, or to invite a loved one in the evening. Highly professional service. The dishes are beautifully prepared and the description on the menu makes you want to order. Personally, I was expecting a tastier, even more refined and exceptional preparation, as well as higher prices, given through the exclusivity of the place.

Nice view to old and new buildings. Nice view of the skyscrapers. Interesting food and wine testing avenue. lots of small kiosks where local food and local white wines can be tested. We were missing the bier... unexpected!

The historic building and square are worth seeing. It is said to be more magnificent with the evening lighting, but we went during the day. Who knows, maybe we'll visit again another time for a theatre, play or opera. The building is magnificent and stands so magnificently in the square it is in, especially at night they are so illuminated that you can sit and watch for hours. It's a beautiful building near Goethe Platz, but you can't compare even normal houses when they're beautiful. It has a nice area for photo taking.
