Date visited: 11/10/2023 Took the 8:50 bus at Shiei Akandana Parking Lot. We got off at Taisho Pond at around 9:15, walked leisurely and reached Myojin First Pond at around 12:00, ate lunch at Kamonjigoya, then walked back to Kappa Bridge at around 14:00. Some washrooms they ask for a ¥100 tip. The trail is very easy with little elevation. Recommend bringing waterproof hiking shoes. It was raining and there were puddles you might need to jump over on the trail. You can easily spend the whole day here. We spotted a monkey and luckily no bears.

I would recommend you go with the earlier bus you can get, or go with a direct bus from other cities, which I did on this trip. I arrived at 5:30, when it was still pitch black. Waited at the bus area till 6:00 and had our stuff stored at the storage service counter near the bus stop. I would also recommend staying the night when possible, and enjoy walking/hiking around!

This was one of the best spots to cherish autumn colors. We drove to the Akandana parking lot, and took a bus up there. The bus costs 2,090 yen round trip. We first stopped by at the Taisho pond and walked up to the Kamikochi. From the Kappa bridge we took a trail to Myojin bridge and back. It was around 14 kilometers walk but the sceneries are just stunning. If you don’t plan to have a long walking trip, you may just stop at Kappa bridge and take a bus back from there as well.

Kamikochi is somewhat what Yosemite is for California. It’s just an outstanding place, it impresses with its beauty and impressive ecosystem. It feels very remote and really magnifies the beautify of Japanese nature. You might cross paths with black bears but you’ll definitely cross paths with monkeys. Stay here at least one night - I strongly recommend to arrange hiking tours, and even to consider a sleepover on the mountains.

What a wonderful place. I do a lot of camping in Japan and have visited many beatiful places and campsites but this is now one of favorites. The hikes are easy and very enjoyable. Seeing so many wild monkeys was an unique experience. I'm looking forward to my next visit in the spring.

Came here during late October and the foliage was spectacular. Every turn, every corner and every sight felt so lyrical and poetic. The river was turquoise and the Japanese larch trees were tinted in an autumnal golden yellow. The only downside is it gets relatively crowded at Kappa Bridge later in the day. We were lucky that we hopped onto the earliest morning bus and had a peaceful time around Taisho pond before the crowd arrives.

This place was unbelievable! During public holiday it gets very crowded but still very enjoyable to do trekking. You can't get around Kamikochi by car, so you have to take the bus and park the car near the station. There was some lines to wait up to get to the bus so recommended to come early. It's a magical place that has a very stunning view! 😍

I’ve been to japan many times but Kamikochi held a special place in my heart! One of the kind experience, if you love nature its a must! I went there in Spring ( late May), plenty of greens with snow still on the peak of alpines. The site was very well- managed, there are plenty of facilities such as restaurants, shops , bus stop, accommodations. Even though there are lots of visitors but the park still give a very untouched atmosphere to the nature. If you are in luck , you still get a chance to see animals such as monkey, deer, variety of bird or even bear! It’s truly live up to its name as japan’s Alps!

Visited Kamikochi for the first time and we loved it so much. The mountain range is beautiful. We started off by taking the bus from Sawando bus terminal to Taisho pond to start our walking tour. It is highly recommended to get off the bus at Taisho pond and get on the bus at Kamikochi bus terminal on your return. This way will maximize your walking experience. The views along the trail was amazing. We took the trail on the left side of the river from Tashiro bridge to Kappa bridge, an easy walk with stunning views. And continue on tge same side to Myojin pond. Myojin pond costs 300 Yen to get in but it is well worth the money. We had soba lunch outside Myojin pond and it was good. No need to pack lunch if you don’t want to. Some people also brought bento box and eat along the riverside to enjoy the good view. Then we crossed the Myojin bridge and returned to Kappa bridge on the other side of the river. The view wasn’t as good plus we were a bit tired so we just quickly reached back to Kappa bridge. Around Kappa bridge areas, there are coffee shops and souvenir shops. We walked another 400 m to reach the Kamikochi bus terminal and took the bus back. We spent roughly 5 hours there including frequent stops. It was simply an amazing experience!

To go to Kamikochi in winter, you need to walk through a nearly two-kilometer-long tunnel. The beautiful scenery after exiting the tunnel is quite worth it.

Nice place. We have to park car and should go to destination only by taxi. Neatly maintained place with out allowing personal cars. But, taxi fare was too expensive. 4600 yen just for 10-15 minutes ride. We went in September and it was good weather. May be in winter, it would be most covered by snow and not sure whether the place will be open. Pond was little far about 40 mins walk. Not so impressive. But good experience with hiking enjoying the route along with the water.

Very beautiful hiking grounds and amazing views during the Fall color change. While we went on a weekend, it wasn’t too crowded but I think we just got lucky that day. The bus situation is very annoying though. Sometimes it runs every 30 minutes and if the bus is full, then you need to wait another 30 minutes for the next one. Book your stay in advance though, or plan the trip for one day with the easier hike options. We stayed for ~5 hours and walked from taishou pond through the bus terminal area and up to myoujin pond. The route on the left side of the river (facing upstream from the bus terminal) will take you along the river streams close to the water, while the right side is more of a nice forest walk. Be aware that the weather can be moody here, our forecast said rain, but it was actually sunny until the way back, so bring a raincoat.
