You must try their California fried taco. We got beef and chicken, they were huge tacos and so delicious.

I want to give them a higher rating, but $8 for a taco that has meat with very little flavor is disappointing and overpriced. The green salsa was tasty, though. Oh, and they charge for fountain water! Ha! Overrated. Sorry.

Update: so 3 years later I finally visited again. Still outstanding, though the food took a little on the long side to come out, nothing crazy though. But dang everything was delicious and my taco was gigantic and tasty. Definitely drop in if you're in the area. First time visiting and it was outstanding! Staff was friendly and the food came out quickly, which was great because I was on a short lunch break. Prices were reasonable and the food tasted fantastic!

Definitely worth a stop. Great dive tucked in close to all the downtown buzz. Get the famous taco. We went old school and stayed with the ground beef. The host was amazing and brought us all sample of their pulled pork and brisket (newer on the options list for tacos.) Most definitely try the brisket taco . That was amazing. So moist and great flavor! That's some fall of your fork goodness right there. Salsa is fire. Homemade heaven that kissed with heat. I personally preferred the salsa Verde over the red. Red is safe for you who like to keep the spice tamed. Great group of guys working it here.

Not gonna lie, the classic California Beef Taco is one of the better things that I have had in Omaha. I can't wait to go back and try something else. The prices are reasonable and the staff was great. Definitely like the feeling of the place, there is a lot of old meets new. Also a solid place for people watching.

Great little joint. Original Cali taco was good, stuffed full of beef. Bean dip was unique and tasty. House margarita on tap way better than the typical, it actually has alcohol in there 🙂

Took a detour into Omaha to grab lunch here. A true dive, the California tacos lived up to their reputation that had them featured on Diners, Drive-ins & Dives. Cinnamon chips were also great - we ordered some and took on the road and wish we had got more!

Saw this place on Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. Decided to stop by before basketball at Creighton this afternoon. The beef Cali Taco was really good. Almost too much dough for my liking though. I really liked the hot (green) salsa. The mild salsa was really good as well. Beans and rice are a good compliment to the tacos. I would definitely recommend this place.

This place makes my mouth water just thinking about it. Best taco dive in the nation! When in Omaha, make it a priority on your agenda. Don't cheat yourself on this one! The California steak taco should be your goal in life.

We were excited to try this place after reading the reviews and watching the clips from Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. A local dive, the bathroom door doesn’t even lock (at least it has a sign that says so.) We mentioned this was our first time visit at the counter. It was met with an unfriendly scowl and an I-don’t have time for small-talk personality. We were given a number for our order and turned to find a table. They had just come down from a rush, so we waited for a table to be cleared. Scowl-lady cleared the table of the dishes but didn’t wipe it down, leaving us to find some napkins to wipe it down ourselves. She did return MANY minutes later to wipe it down. It’s not like she didn’t know there was nowhere else (appropriate for a couple) to sit that was clean. Maybe we just should have sat down at one of the huge group tables instead? The food was just good but not amazing. We each ordered a Cali Taco, and we shared a Nachos with mixed chips. Our favorite was the Nachos. We wish we had been told the difference between the two chips at the counter. You would think it would have been mentioned to us since we informed the staff it was our first visit. The flour chips were the homemade version. Had we been informed; we would have opted for just the flour chips and not the mixed version. The tacos were good but nothing to write home about. The shells are unique – sort of a cross between Indian fry bread and schnitzel or strudel. This was our first official stop of our mini vacation. We were in tourist mode, happy and excited to try something new when we walked in. The ‘service’ left a bad taste – no matter how good the food is – it was soured by the experience. The owner came in with a bank bag and was met at the counter by our staff person. My husband overheard her asking the owner for more hours. We should have mentioned to him what a letdown our interaction was. We took a 20-minute detour out of our way for a meal here. Would we try it again, yes. Would we drive out of our way to do so – no. There are too many other establishments to try. Not worth the hype of years ago.

I honestly used to love going here several years ago when I was a senior in high school / early years of college. I haven’t been to cali taco in years, but went with some colleagues recently for lunch. I had hear from friends that it wasn’t what it used to be. Long story short, I ordered a beef enchilada. It was $11 for a single beef enchilada. This thing was so small that it should’ve been $3-4. There are many other restaurants you could go to in the Omaha area with better “bang for your buck”. Also, I “made it a meal” for $4 more. I got a tiny serving of rice and a fountain drink. So all in, it was $15 for some mediocre food. It’s sad to say, but I wouldn’t go back (even after my memories from that place). It really has gone downhill a little and they seem to be living off of the fact they were on diners drive ins and dives years ago (see all the other 4-5 star comments).

This place is not worth the hype. When we first walked in it was completely dead at 5pm on a Saturday. The restaurant looked very dirty and run down. Booth seats had ripped holes in them. Tables didn’t look all the way cleaned up. All that should have been a sign of what was to come. The cashier upfront wasn’t very welcoming or friendly at all. $10-$13 for a meal of the famous cali taco. The meat was bland, had a weird texture. The side of rice I ordered you could tell wasn't fully cooked. I thought maybe some salsa could save it and nope it did not. Sadly, I would never recommend or come back to this establishment.

The restaurant is in bad part of town. Staff does not understand or speak English, and even though there was no one else there, we had to wait over 20 minutes for our food. I had a beef taco, which had unseasoned hamburger meat, a little bit of lettuce, and cheese. The sauce that’s available at the table made the taco palatable. I was super hungry; that’s the only reason I forced myself to eat half of it. Quesadilla that my husband ordered was only okay. French fries were once again unseasoned. Women’s bathroom did not have a working lock. The place in general looked dirty. We asked them what Guy Fieri ate at their restaurant, but despite trying to rephrase the question several times, staff did not understand us. Will not return. Would not recommend.

Heard of this place from triple D aka diners, drivin, and dives. It is my first time there we didn't get welcomes by any of the people there. Was thinking we would get the same food and service from the show but sad to say it was not even close. I did read reviews of the place most are 4 or 5 stars but this place is living off of the episode of triple D and even have it on replay on one of the TV's there. We waited at the spot to order our food for 15 to 20 minutes once we placed the order waited almost a full hour before getting food and all we ordered was three tacos and one enchilada. The tacos were mostly lettuce and cheese not much meat, the beef had no flavor to it under seasoned and the beef looked like it went through a shredder, chicken was ok buy very little was on my Taco all I really tasted was lettuce and cheese, and the brisket Taco was very chewy and also had no flavor to it. Sad to say it first time being there wasn't happy with the place or the food or the price for the little bit of food we got almost paid fifty dollars for just five thing one enchilada, three tacos, and one beer. People sorry but don't waste your time or money going there. It was a disappointment! Also you pay and tip before you get any of your food.

We had a great Time as a family at California Tacos and more. We were able to order very quickly, and served within minutes. They made one mistake , but fixed immediately without a doubt. Food was SOOOO GOOD!😊. Owner came to our table, and asked how things were. No complaints here at all. Even took photo"s with the owner, and smiling along the way. If You want to enjoy yourself and have some great food, We recommend California Tacos and More, on 33rd and California Street😀😀.

Not a big fan of Mexican food but the thick homemade shell the size of a burrito sold me This is now the only taco I'll eat in Omaha The rice and beans steaming hot and covered w/cheese were the best I've ever had

After having heard from some coworkers how great this place is, I decided to give it a try. The service was good. The food was just okay. I got a Cali taco with chicken, and I added a couple of salsas that were pretty good. I also got a side of Spanish rice that was either undercooked or dried out, as many of the grains were crunchy. The Cali taco itself is a unique dish, but overall I don't really think the food lived up to the hype that I've heard from others. It was definitely filling though. I'd come back if I happened to be in the area, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to eat here. Additionally, the restrooms were not very clean.

I went with a friend who comes here very frequently. Personally, I didn't like the food. I got loaded tots with brisket, which had way too much queso and was very salty. The dining area was dark, and a few of the booth seats had big rips. I can see the appeal, however. The staff were nice and you can tell that the restaurant is where the locals come. I'm sure that if I'd gotten a different menu item, I would've enjoyed the restaurant more, since the loaded tots are new. After all, Guy Fieri came and loved it! If I come back, I'll definitely try something else, and I'd be happy to update my review.

They put food in my hair burrito!! (There was a good amount of hair) so I went back to the restaurant and requested a new burrito and gave them my receipt, they then brought me something completely different from what i had bought before!(I only mention this because it wasn't very good) Bad experiences stacked! I was enjoying that burrito too.. (before I noticed the wire like hair in my mouth)

We ordered the Chicken Cali Tacos, Vegetarian Nachos, and the Chicken Quesadilla. Food was delicious, price was right, and food was served fast and hot. Highly recommend to anyone that is looking for great tasting tacos and needing to feed a family. Beware the Pico de Gallo and Guacamole can be a little spicy.

Tried a few things, the enchilada was so plain, it reminded me of the white people taco night song.. so went everything else we tried. Including the fried taco. The steak in the taco was not seasoned. It was made in a room that had spices but none especially the salt touched the meat. Place was mostly clean. Perhaps I’m unfair being I had high hopes coming into this place, but I was underwhelmed.

Did not disappoint. Great prices, great food, great service, great margaritas. We had a toddler with us, no options that we knew of for a high chair or booster seat. But luckily our son behaved and loved his food like we did! The brisket was tender and outstanding. Definitely will recommend to friends who visit the area.
