We went here for our Anniversary dinner and it was nothing short of amazing! I had the Tomahawk and she has the NY Strip and both were cooked to perfection with great sides! Can't wait to go again!

Based on my previous ratings, I feel this place deserves a 6 star for sure, of course it's pricey and so is the taste. The chef needs a compliment for sure for the amazing options and maintaining great taste and presentation for every item. Smoked old fashioned was actually smoked and a bottle of smoke served with it to support the aura. Sour dough bread was so soft and tasty. Seafood platter was just amazing, that charbroiled taste was just ummm. Not sure when I had such tasty shrimp & crab cake before. Noting was fried and very tasty. The carrot cake though, not my favorite.. sorry chef. I felt the cheese outside was a little too much and not complimenting. But hey, I'm no expert here, just a connoisseur of food. Up to the patrons now.

Was a little disappointed with J. Gilbert's but mostly because of the price. At this price point, I have higher expectations for a meal. Don't get me wrong, it was good but not very impressive for the cost. I got the combo and ordered 4 oz steak and scallops. Scallops were very good, steak was pretty good. The flavor of the steak was a little drowned out by the smokey flavor and how they cook it. It was decently tender, although as you can see from the photo, a little dry on the outside (wasn't dry in the middle though).

Amazing atmosphere, service and food. Everything feels very upscale, making it a great place for a fancy date night or business dinner. Here’s a tip: Get the carrot cake. We were going back and forth but finally decided to order it when we saw it arrive at a nearby table. It’s incredibly rich, and the piece was giant. The cake itself is so moist and spiced, but the filling, frosting and additional sauce just take it over the edge. Order the carrot cake.

For our anniversary my husband and I went to J. Gilbert's Wood Fired Steaks and we were very happy with our meals and our service. The sourdough bread had a good crust, but the bread itself tasted like it needed some salt in the mix. The Maryland Crab bisque was the star of the night for me. I loved the theatrics of pouring the bisque to cover the crab right in front of you. The taste was show stopping and I would love to know how they got the sensation of heat after every bite without it being spicy. It was phenomenal! I ordered the Twin Canadian Cold Water Lobster tails and enjoyed every bite. The potatoes were delicious. The asparagus was perfectly cooked, but the tomato (while adding color to the plate) didn't really balance well with the asparagus. My husband ordered the bone in pork chop. It was well seared and perfectly cooked. He also enjoyed his potatoes. The corn contained bits of bacon inside and he thought that was tasty. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was good, but was a lot heavier on the bread crumbs than the lobster. My husband had the creme brulee and it was the largest portion I have ever seen! The top was perfectly fired so it didn't taste burnt at all. It contained a single raspberry, so I do think the description was a little off. My chocolate velvet cake was incredibly rich. The raspberry ice cream was the star of the dish for me. I think it needed more acidity to balance the dish, raspberry puree or ganache perhaps. The service was good and our waters were never empty. Our server was fabulous and friendly. We had a memorable evening and were glad to give it a try.

The chicken tortilla soup was very good. The restaurant uses it woodfired grill which gives the steaks a unique flavor, but they also put a rub with some kind of coffee and chili on the steaks. I wasn't a huge fan of the rub. The creamed corn and green beans sides were very tasty. The creme brulee we had for dessert was silky smooth and tasted amazing. The first floor of the restaurant is rather noisy and had some kind of an incense smell. We were seated on the second floor which is much quieter and didn't have an odor.

The place is located in the Marriott building and has a lot of parking and easy access. The food was great and the service (server B. - thank you) very good. It was a good tempo between the dishes, allowing the food to settle. I liked the filet Mignon that I ordered. It was flavored and juicy. The Maryland crab bisque soup was served very nicely. The flavor and the soup's temperature were great. Complementary bread and butter were also very good. We took the desert home....so no review yet. 🙂. I'll recommend this place 👍👍👍

The Prix Fixe is a good three course option. Did the $54 Tier 6oz filet with indicated sides. The steak was absolutely the best. Ordered medium-rare it was so tender. Started with three half-shell oysters, each delightfully ocean fresh and tasty. Chose the Caesar salad (kind of spicy) for the first course, berries& cream for the third course. The cocktail of choice was the smoked old fashioned.

Let’s just say I went back the next night for dinner again! Very fun environment for family dinner, date night or alone! Service was fast and friendly from the minute I walked in the door. The food was just as amazing as you can see pictured below. Tons of variety on the menu for food. If you’re a wine person they have a huge selection just for you. I will be returning if I’m town again! Two thumbs up

I'd give 3.5 Stars if that was possible. We had an early Valentine's dinner here on Friday. The Valentine's Day Special menu started at 3 and our reservation was at 7:15 (at the beginning of a 4 day stretch of this menu being available, ending today, Valentine's Day). I ordered the filet and lobster, was told this was no longer available, the Blood and Marriage drink special - not available, the Bacon Bourbon - not available. I understand that there are currently supply chain issues, but it would have been nice if the waitress would have maybe even been a little bit apologetic, instead of pointing at the menu and stating "this, this and this is not available, sorry". The food was great, filet and shrimp were as I would expect from a restaurant of this level. Presentation was a bit underwhelming. Our waitress Mary was friendly and professional, not the most engaging.

Deeeeeeeeelisciousness with every course! And we all had an “I’ve never ever seen this before” moment: see video of The crab bisque Pour Over. Steak was cooked so right there’s none left. Crisped by the flame, medium in the inside. Location is convenient, has a very positive and fancy feel even though there’s casual dress allowed, and the place is definitely popular. We beat the rush I think but it wouldn’t hurt to make a reservation. The staff are really great, friendly and helpful. This is one to try if you haven’t been here!

Wow!! What a delightful experience the staff was amazing from the greeting at the door, server Holly. The food was to die for. I was a guest from Chicago visiting and now I have something to talk about over dinner. I had filet combo what an amazing selection.

We had dinner here to celebrate a birthday and the experience did not disappoint. Excellent attention to detail. Delicious food and drinks. The smoked old-fashioned is a must-try!

The positives- Their fresh bread and lobster mac & cheese are fantastic. Also loved the wellfleet oysters and my lavender drop cocktail. Negatives: -Service isn’t great for what you’re paying. I put on my open table reservation that it was my birthday and this was not acknowledge by any of the staff. -My filet mignon was cooked rare as I wanted it but overly salty/seasoned, which is disappointing for a $44 piece of meat. -Asparagus was all reedy and fibrous on the ends, you would think there would be more attention to detail. -I did not like the ambience, it was very loud with people talking and I couldn’t hear if any music was playing at all. Just a personal preference. Overall I didn’t think it was worth the $84 bill

Lovly fine dining restaurant. I did not feel that this was as romantic and we had hoped, the seating is a bit closer with a slightly louder and brighter environment. The menu was an excellent balance of seafood and steak options. I enjoyed the pre-set menu. The pre-set menu has an excellent selection of food for your 3 course meal. The cook on the steaks was beautiful, and the woodfire gave a beautiful smell and added to the flavor. The crab soup was very delicious, with a beautiful table presentation. They bring the bowl with the lump crab in the bottom for you to see and then pour the soup over at the table. Keeping your crab fresh and delicate, very delicious. I saw that the other soup (tortilla) was also presented this way. The smoked bourbon is also poured at the table. Delicious desserts and excellent house salad.

The filet is outstanding along with the salad and brussel sprouts. The service is impeccable in this very clean restaurant. The ambiance pulls you in and makes you stay awhile. Save room for dessert. The huge slice of carrot cake is divine.

Had a dinner date with a good friend. This was both of our 1st time, needless to say the atmosphere and ambiance was elegant. The waiter was very informative and helpful. Our course I had Pineapple Martinis, delicious. Our entrees were cooked like we wanted. Everything was superb. I will return and treat myself.

Fantastic experience at J. Gilbert's! This is the first steakhouse I've been to in Omaha and it was great. Came out to $80/person or so, but definitely seemed worth it. Had some beers, the combo with steak and scallops, veggies and their cheesecake dessert. Will be going back! Update: Went back and was just as amazing. This will be a staple Omaha restaurant for us in the future!

Dined here while in Omaha for a business trip. Knew I had to get an Omaha steak, and J Gilbert's was a great place to get one. Cooked perfectly -- ordered medium rare and it was actually medium rare. The seasoning was fantastic, and the quality of the steak was obviously high. It was juicy, generously portioned, and prepared with care. The asparagus came with some chopped tomatoes, which added some freshness to an otherwise rich and heavy dish. For drinks I had a smoked old fashioned, which was impressive to say the least. Well made, just the right ingredient ratios, and the smoky presentation was a treat. Service was excellent, the waitress was friendly and attentive. The ambience is great, definitely has that high-end steakhouse vibe. Excellent experience all around.

Great service, delicious food, steak cooked to perfection, good portion, and better reviews than Warren's favorite steakhouse. I had the 4oz filet combo for variety, and value.

I chose from the prix fixe menu with the 4 oz fillet. The salad with bleu cheese dressing was very good. I ask for my steak to be slightly pink inside and the server said "medium, medium". First time the steak came out it was very very rare, thus the four stars. The second time my steak came out it was great. It was very tender and flavorful. The 2 sides were brussel sprouts (a little burned) and wonderful potatoes au gratin. I definitely do that again. My dessert was carrot cake and it was wonderful too. I enjoyed our dinner and recommend the restaurant.

This place has changed how we will do Christmas from here on out. The food exceeded expectations and the atmosphere was gorgeous, staff very kind and attentive. The filet was one of the best I’d ever had in my life! Going to start coming here every Christmas celebration!!

I would say this is a good restaurant if I hadn’t gotten food poisoning. After coming here for my anniversary, I woke up 12 hours after eating my meal throwing up, severely sick. Come to find out I have food poisoning. Upon calling and talking to the manager, Roland, I was told it couldn’t be food poisoning because it comes after 24-48 of eating food and he didn’t have any complaints from the night before. Completely disregarded my complaint and what I am going through due to my meal. My husband and I practically had the same meal, except I had scallops and asparagus (I got the lobster mac n cheese, but I didn’t eat it). Wasted 200 dollars on a meal that may sent me to ER if I can’t stop throwing up. Really sad I have been treated and the lack of care, when my PCP can confirm that it’s food poisoning. Don’t recommend here, obviously if there’s an issue on their end, they’ll make sure to gaslight you. Picture of the food is attached.

Had a reservation and sat bar side on a Saturday night. From beginning to end the experience was perfect. Our waitress Hannah took care of us and was wonderful. The food, service, price, experience, atmosphere, everything was exactly what I was looking for. 10/10

We did not eat here but had amazing service and great drinks at the bar. The couple next to us had a filet and it looked perfectly cooked. This is totally a very classy high end restaurant and bar.

I went with my Godparents for a lovely dinner. It was Labor day Monday. Our table was ready when we showed up. Service was excellent all the way from the host, bartender making drinks, and our server was straight A professional. We all got something different so we could try a bunch of stuff. The clear winner was the Aussie lamb rib rack. Also the pork chop was the best we had ever had. The steak was pretty good but not the best ever in my opinion. Next time we'll shoot for the dry aged and check the difference. I had my first oyster Rockefeller and I'm in love. Most surprising was the pastrami butter that comes with the bread. So subtle and divine. The mushroom risotto was slightly disappointing. All in all totally worth any money you spend here. Thank you for the beautiful time!

Fantastic meal. Best steak ive had in a while. Good drinks, not a long wait for food. Couldn't be happier with the experience and the environment provided. I can see why they have a lot of business here.

Definitely worth a visit. The steaks were cooked to perfection and seasoned well. The pretzel onion rings started us off well. Preference was for the mustard dip. The smoked Old Fashioned was worth it from visual presentation to the flavor profile and finishing touches.

The ambience of J. Gilbert’s was nice. The food was good. I ordered calamari and a Ceasar salad. There wasn’t enough of the calamari in my order. There were fried onion strips and fried jalapeños. When I order calamari that’s what I want to eat not onions. My friend had the crab cakes and he said they were good. The steak was good as well. The server we had was a bit dry and unenthusiastic about serving my table. He offered no recommendations or told us about any house specials. He came off a bit cold. The manager came over to check on our table as he did other tables. It was an overall ok experience. Nothing to rave about.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here. There was a thoughtful hand-written card welcoming us at our table. It thanked us for choosing to celebrate our milestone with them and offered a complimentary dessert or champagne toast. The service was insightful, friendly and gracious. The food spoke for itself. Absolutely delicious. The carrot cake was literally three tiers and huge! We would totally come back here to eat on a special occasion.

Great environment and the carrot cake is out of this world however, they couldn’t figure out the temperatures on the steaks. They over or undercooked three steaks during our date night. I want to give this restaurant a higher rating because we have had good experiences there in the past but the steaks have missed the mark unfortunately.

I found this gem while staying at Marriot Downtown Capitol District. If you're staying at that hotel, don't you even THINK about driving somewhere to eat. There's delicious food right downstairs! I believe the gentleman that assisted me was named Cory. He provided an excellent overview of the menu and amazing service. I'll tell you, service can make or break an experience, and he elevated my experience. My recommendation Start with the Maryland crab bisque. Ultra flavorful with nice meaty crab in the middle of the bowl. It paired nicely with my sour dough bread actually, although, the smoked garlic butter would have been enough (amazing). If you like seafood as much as I do, go with the seafood mixed grill. You'll get a variety of seafood cooked to perfection. My only complaint is that the food was so good I had to stuff myself, and I couldn't try dessert! Not J. Gilbert's fault though, I'll take ownership of that one. Stay hungry my friends. -K

**UPDATE** We recently came back for Round 3! Just like the first 2 times, the food and service was great. I got the lamb chops again and my husband got the steak. We also tried the calamari and it was amazing! **Original** The food was amazing and the service was even better! We came for my birthday celebration and they had a handwritten card waiting for me. They also treated me to desert! I love this place and will continue to come back!

I wish I could have gotten the manager's name so I can give him a personal Shout out, we showed up for our dinner reservations for New Year's Eve and our name somehow wasn't on the list for eight people, the manager accommodated us almost immediately and everyone was so kind and prompt the manager even checked on us after our meal to make sure everything was okay, a very high class Place explanation point highly recommend!
