We
had
really
looked
forward
to
Le
Trappiste.
The
place
is
indeed
atmospheric.
It
should
be
great.
Unfortunately
the
service
was
surly
and
sour,
which
detracts
a
bit
from
the
experience.
We
asked
a
couple
of
simple
questions
to
the
bartender.
Not
getting
anything
but
a
shrug,
our
little
group
went
and
ordered
some
nice
beers
with
a
different
barman.
Unfortunately,
this
lemon-faced
young
man
also
looked
ready
to
keel
over
of
boredom.
My
wife
had
had
enough
of
beer
for
the
day
so
we
ordered
her
a
ginger
ale
(the
horror).
This
elicited
a
curly-lipped
sneer.
Atmosphere
is
not
just
a
place.
There
a
lot
of
choices
in
lovely
Brugge.
This
is
one
I
won't
make
again.
Edited:
The
response
is
as
predictable
as
it
is
comic.
I
have
no
doubt
other
people
leave
happy.
From
what
I
can
glean
from
the
quite
numerous
negative
reviews,
there
are
also
a
fair
number
who
don't,
and
for
largely
similar
reasons.
The
beer
is
excellent
but
that
was
not
really
my
point.
Anyway,
I
will
continuing
hoisting
top
Belgian
beers.
Plenty
of
happy,
friendly
places
for
that
in
Brugge.
