Just got that feeling loaded with joy 😊 about being in Costa Rica 🇨🇷 Cartago was our former colonial capital. There is so much history and faith surrounding that beautiful province. The Cartajineses are super welcomed people. The all Cathedral ruins are just as beautiful as the Basilica of our Lady of the Angeles. To top it up, the new statue on the middle of the park is just beyond beautiful.

This is a fantastic downtown area right by the ruins of the old cathedral. There are artesanal stands there and in weekend they have life music performances.

The ruins of an old church in the center of Cartago. Closed for renovations, but the exterior was Majestic.

Very interesting history. It was also great to learn that Cartago used to be the capital before a major earthquake and then San Jose became the new capital

It's a nice place to walk around, it has many stores around and it's a lovely place to go and sightseeing, they are giving maintenance to a statue but aside from that you can enjoy the ruins, go to the church a bit further away and have the folkloric dishes of the place.

Safe, not too much to do... Coffee houses around are pretty much acceptable, fair price to quality ratio.

Cartago is a city close to Alajuela, and much colder, is smaller of course, and lots of nature around.. from here is easy and quick to get to Orosi and some of the vest view points.. close to Vulcan Irazu where you can see both Cartago and san jose.. amd be above the clouds.. there is a huge cathedral and nice ruins in the central park.. train is available from and to san jose it doesn't run all day long, just in the peak hours.. is a bit slow and noisy but ia an adventure.. nice the places around the market to buy everything

Cartago is the spiritual Catholic heart of Costa Rica. The shrine of Our Lady of the Angels is just breath taking and a wonderful spiritual experience. Humble architecture and devout faithful make this place kind of the center of the world

A nice place to hang out while in Cartago. I would rate it higher of they allowed you to enter the garden inside the ruins.

The ruins is the focus of Centro Cartago. There are lots of benches for people to sit. There are several plaques with facts about the history of the places.
