John Ruskin- "Your career ENDS here" I currently studied at John Ruskin for 3 years AWFUL place if I could I wouldn't give a single star. Most of the reviews on here are from previous students who played a role in the student council being asked by staff to put a "good" review to out weigh the bad. Teachers are hired without qualifications (These teachers bullying students) leading to poor agency staff taking control possibly 9/10 different teachers in one academic year. There was no supplies for students who worked hard but disrespectful students who never turned up, never worked hard and had a bad attitude was taken to winter wonderland, how does this relate to there course subject? No supplies lead to students having to fork out hundreds of pounds to even get a good grade how does someone with a low family income suppose to make there future brighter? Students where forced to pay £88 at the beginning of the Level 3 year 2 course this money was suppose to be put towards stationary for the students and organised trip, this amount of money bought me no trips, a rusty used folder 2 cheap sketchbooks which I didn't use due to only needing folders for my course, pencil, pen and a glue. This stuff would cost you £20 maybe less in WHSmith but go to John Ruskin and get ripped off. When students did express there concern, you would only get turned away and nothing will be done about it oh apart from the teacher that would then bully you even more. I have had to remain anonymous due to the college previously blackmailing if we didn't sign a "contract" my course place will be removed this will then lead to myself with no qualifications. This contract spoke of lies and was used against students. No matter how hard you work John Ruskin still believe you are the worst person on the earth.

The teacher turn-over for this college is appauling, having done my AS year here for the technology pathway I've seen a turn-over of about 5 teachers in the science department alone. Most of the admin personal there didn't even know one of my courses - A Level Computer Science - existed. Furthermore, the subjects which require permanant teaching such as Maths, have no permanent teaching, it's all subcontracted to part-time teachers. It's disgraceful and I have yet to receive a permanent teacher other than for Physics - which took nearly an academic year to find. Furthermore, the retention of students for A2 isn't up to standard either, nearly half of the Medical Science Pathway have left to study somewhere else or start BTEC Level 3 in the college after their AS years after recieving poor results. There's a reason why they don't advertise their grades for academic years. All of these issues continue to be a problem where management simply ignoring the issues at hand or try to down-play it by putting the blame on students for not revising themselves or not working hard enough, and they simply answer your questions with more questions - you can never find a straight answer to anything. Overall I'm really upset by what the college has done to the A-Level students and there is never a day that goes by where I don't feel comfortable with the staff they have in place.

Had an awful experience for three years at John Ruskin! Don't forget most of these reviews are done by student council at college and therefore have the role to make John Ruskin look amazing! Don't be fooled like I was !! John Ruskin seems to get great Ofsted reviews? This is because on those days staff and students are on their game- wanting to prove to be something there not. Now John Ruskin have employed staff who are not fully qualified, therefore our whole class had a close call on our course getting blocked because of the awful marking on our projects. Thank goddess we had an amazing teacher right towards the end of the last year who managed to save us! If this teacher did not come in our class would of had to redo the two years, I would of be distraught having to re do all that hard work, specially after what we had been through. Now John Ruskin ruined my college experience; horrible staff, no organisation, manipulation and uncertainty of our passion for the creatives as we had been put down so much due to there mess ups. I had about 11 different teachers in 3 years, now you can understand the disruption this makes in a class. Complaints and worries made by my parents or fellow class mates were never heard and John Ruskin say they are big on student voice? A lot of rubbish that is, even went to the principal and he did not make any time of day to speak to us just his PA. We all paid £88 at the beginning for the course and essential materials( this is for the creative industry students) I did not receive any of it till 3 months before I finished college. So for two years I had to provide my own materials becuase the college failed to provide us with what was needed and just kept our money! One thing I will defiantly mention is I had to pay £80 for my portfolio to get printed due to lack of technician help ( no technician hired until months later they did and then she got fired!) the equipment at John Ruskin (in the creative industries) don't really work and are slow that's why if I wanted to get into the uni I wanted I had to pay for my portfolio, which is rediculous pretty much half of the class did this! Yet we get blamed it's our fault? How? I do not know ? There is plenty I can say but one last thing I will mention is my class got blackmailed to sign a contract stating basically we cannot sue them, if anything happens further. Now I refused to sign it along with my classmates but I was told I had 30mins to sign it and give it to the head of creative industries or they will not give us our qualifications. The head of creative industries came up to talk and basically said sign it to cover the teachers back. Now from this blackmail we had to sign because we could not throw away the years of work and rubbish we had to go through with them! Don't be phased by there posts on socials or big banners outside the college saying how great they are because I thought it was a great college till I lived it!

My Son has been at John Ruskin College for 18 months now and I have to say all the staff I have had dealings with so far have been friendly, helpful and enthusiastic about their students and subjects. With current online learning (due to Covid 19) the teachers and support team have been second to none and are constantly at the end of an e-mail if help is needed. With this help and support my Son (who doesn't find learning easy) passed his Sports course last year and has just passed his GCSE Maths. If this is your local College give them a chance, you may be pleasantly surprised?

I had a good experience in John Ruskin at the beginning but it all went down hill when I was given a 3 on my maths and English I worked hard for I always made sure I attended my lesson even during the lockdown and we had zoom I always made sure I attended my lessons during mocks and class tests I always did well and my teachers always gave me a good feedbacks. During the lockdown, we did a little test Because we were not able to write an exam due to the pandemic I was told by one of my teachers, That I shouldn’t worry too much about the test because it Was not the final Grades but rather what we did in class will indicate our grade. Regardless I still did my best. When My report came out I was highly disappointed and ashamed because I needed a 4 grade to to my course I was very confused what went wrong Even some of the International student who didn’t understand nothing and helped them during class, got a better grades most of the students who did not attend class got a good grade I was in shock this lead me into deep depression because John ruskin was my only hope I was broken and cried for many days I spoke to my teachers about it and they did nothing to help I also reported them to remark or to go through all my works they did nothing at all to help am still in pain hopefully I heal one day. 💔

Absolute waste of time, the only thing I learned there is how to protect from knife attack. No teachers for most of the subject, now I can say that this school has ruined my life. You will benefit more from working in corner shop than finishing this school.

Beware there is a dangerous alcoholic course "instructor" named "Mark Mclees", he teaches the "rail engineering" course. His mouth is as foul as a sewer & has irregular mood swings at his students! I reported him to the college & did not get a reply...

Safety needs to be improved as the gate is opened to public, anyone can access the college premises which isn’t safe for the students or staff members. Some class rooms look very poor with lack of equipment. Computers are quite old not working properly. Great hair&beauty department - hair salon, beauty salon and range of different tools and equipments.

Fairly good college, security needs to be improved, some college departments are completely forgotten with equipment in terrible condition, staff is friendly and helpful but teachers are changing often. My course is really good. But I cannot say this is one of the beat colleges. (Surely much better than Croydon College)

I really enjoyed experience in John Ruskin College and currently, I am still in. I am studying for my GCSEs at the moment and I am looking for high grade with the support from the teachers and Student Services. In the next year I am planning to get in A level Science in John Ruskin College. The teamwork with students and staff members is one of the strongest attitudes in John Ruskin College, such as many more of them.

😠 A poor student experience. My experience of studying humanities and history of art at BBK was incredibly poor. Research and think well if you want to spend your money here. Many of the tutors don’t reply on time. Some admin team members were not the most helpful neither. It’s a shame as there are s...

😠 Did an access course here a few years ago and it was horrible.
