Warana Raja Maha Viharaya is an ancient Buddhist temple located in Tiharia, Gampaha District, Sri Lanka. This temple is a historical temple with archaeological value. The Varana Raja Maha Vihara is believed to have been built during the reign of King Devanampiyathissa and was later renovated by King Walagamba. It was also restored by kings Nishanka Malla, Kirti Sri Rajasingha and Parakramabahu VI.

Great ancient temple near Thihariya with cave based viharayas to visit. There is some stepa to climb and you can have a great view of the surrounding from top. A must visit place.

Beautiful place close to Colombo. I've been here many times and visited recently after 10 years. I only wished the archaeological department set standards and precedence for renovations and additions to temples because everything is happening in an ad-hoc manner. The once beautiful roof of the preaching hall has been replaced with steel tiles which are looking like actual clay tiles from a distance. But very odd and unsuitable for such a place. This is the lack of education in all tiers from government officials to ministers to priests who contribute to the slow ruin and decay of the heritage of this land.

This Buddhist cave temple built in 100 - 200 BC. One of the most beautiful and calm places. This temple has three levels. Middle and upper Levels are almost identical. Perfect place to spend some time to relax. Amazing and simple architecture with beautiful murals and statues.

It has a beautiful location and a history dating back to the second Pathis dynasty. A very large herd of dogs lives in the temple. The tiger itself cannot be worshipped. The monks are very kind. Not a place that impressed me personally. Parking available

I was here with my wife and a Monk gave me a Ruby gemstone. I put this in a ring and since that day I wear it around my finger. I dont know the name of the Monk but I'm still very grateful for the guided tour and the stone. Sadhu Sadhu Sadhu.

Hii, I went to this temple on Poson Poya day. It is located in a very attractive environment. This temple has a long history. It was built during the time of King Walagamba. The temple has a beautiful view.

Wonderful and historically valuable place around Colombo. clam environment and have a nice viewpoint on the top of the rock. May be crowded on Poya days. Also, have some temporary short eats shops there.
