We made a reservation the same day and was pleasantly accommodated even with 6 people! You’re definitely paying for a quality over quantity. However, workers were so friendly, wonderful environment and great way experience an authentic Japanese shabu-shabu dinner. We ordered the beef and pork course that also comes with noodles and dessert. Will recommend to all, especially first timer in Kyoto!

Price is high- dinner set charged from min. 7500 to >10000 yen. And one set for each person is required. Besides, the serving size is too little to fulfill an adult. Only few very thin slice of meat. The food quality is decent though.

I made a reservation online and the restaurant never called me to confirm it never so i had to call the restaurant to confirm. Overall the meal was a disappointment, we paid $150 for two people and the best thing was the entree bento box. The shabu shabu was so bland it tasted like eating plain boiled meat.

Food is good, ingredients is as fresh as it can get. Atmosphere is nice as well. But be warned, the reviews might not be organic since they actively ask for reviews and offer rewards for posting reviews on Google maps.

An absolute gem in Kyoto! Our evening at Kyoto Hyoto Shijo Karasuma branch was a culinary delight from start to finish. The super fresh ingredients elevated the shabushabu experience to a whole new level. The simplicity of the broth allowed the quality of the meat, veggies, and seafood to shine, complemented perfectly by the provided dipping sauce. The hospitality was top-notch, with our skilled cook, Nao, adding a personal touch to our dining adventure. Nao not only crafted delectable dishes but also created a memorable experience with each perfectly executed serving. Despite arriving without a reservation, we were lucky to secure a table by going early on a weekday evening. However, as the night progressed, the restaurant filled up quickly, emphasizing the need for reservations during busier times. Don't miss the chance to savor exceptional Japanese cuisine in a welcoming atmosphere. Kyoto Hyoto is a must-visit for food enthusiasts seeking a perfect blend of freshness, flavor, and fantastic service! 🍲🥢 #KyotoHyoto #CulinaryExcellence #MustVisitKyoto

Too expensive for what you get. The food was fresh so it tasted good, but it was nothing special. You can get shabu shabu that's equally good elsewhere for a much lower cost. The three of us each ordered the tasting menu and the total was ¥39,000 (~$350).

Simply fabulous food, nice modern and classy atmosphere, with service that was beyond excellent. Our host, after our dinner, was friendly and chatty, and walked with us past their entrance/walkway, to the street and bowed. Stood there on the street and kept bowing as were at the end of the block! Royal treatment - classic Japanese hospitality. Price was reasonable too for such high quality food and experience.

The interior design and dessert is not bad. But it doesn’t worth the price. One appetizer, one sushi, these food for hot pot, and a dessert charge for 7,000. Really not worthy for me.

Quite a decent place for dinner. The menu/ order website not very tourist friendly but the staff is very helpful, tho they can’t speak English well they tried to explain with google translate. The set is bit pricey, 10,000 yen per head. Food is okay with nice presentation.

Happened to Google this restaurant with positive reviews. Managed to do the last minute booking for my birthday meal in Kyoto. The ambience, service and foods are really great. They offered Pork, snows crab, or beef options for the course :)

Hyoto Shijo Karasuma for Shabu Shabu was an outstanding experience. First time visited and I would definitely go back again! I was still reminiscing about my experience 2 days afterwards. Food: Every dish starting with the appetizer leading up to the main courses was flavorful, refreshing, and meat was buttery. Service: Unfortunately I forgot all 3 of our servers names, but each one provided prompt and excellent service. Respectful, patient, friendly, and spoke some English. Staff explained each dish that was served and suggestions on how to eat it. Atmosphere: Inviting, good spacing between tables, and not too loud that you can't hear your conversations. A few things to know: 1. Upon entering you will be asked to remove shoes and placed into a secured locker. You will be handed a locker key. 2. There is an English menu, staff speaks some English, and there is a call button to bring staff to your table. 3. Recommend making a reservation. I came around 06PM local time on a Tuesday and it was a good crowd. Can't wait to come back next time!

My family and I had dinner here tonight and were very impressed by the quality of the food as well as a matching services from the staffs. This probably is among the best shabu-shabu dinner we had at Kyoto! The meats, vegetables, condiments and deserts quality made us very happy and satified diners! The staffs are very helpful, friendly and speak quite decent level of English to make communication very present! To add on, all the female and male staffs are pretty and handsome! The dinner area is well kept, very clean and present to be at too. Some might find the price to be abit steep but we feel that it is well worth it! Will definitely make this as one of the first choice to have dinner when we are back in this area again!

Food is bland and tasteless, quantity of food is also too little for the price. Value is non existent - $80 USD for the quality and quantity of the food is not justified. Staff does not speak english which makes the experience and service lackluster. Overall, would recommend you find another restaurant that is more reasonably priced.

Overall, nice food with good service. As to the food, the beef was particularly fresh and juicy, the pork and crab were also good; appetizers were all yummy and really open up your appetite, will definitely recommend to visitors to Kyoto.

We really want to eat shabu shabu, then I found this restaurant by google maps. I book one day before online. And checked the manu by their website before. I had lunch here. They do have lunch set which price is much lower. The waiter is handsome and nice. Good experience.

Our concierge from Intercontinental Osaka recommended this place for shabu shabu. I am glad that we listened to her! Fantastic food, attentive staff, peaceful ambience and very authentic. Already looking forward to our next visit!

Truly a gem in Kyoto! One of the best hot pot experiences I've ever had. They had a course meal you can choose, and the "small plates" before the hot pot were AMAZING, maybe even better than the hot pot itself.

been here multiple times, definitely a must visit when in kyoto! the quality of the meat is unbeatable, and the flavors of the meal shine even through its simplicity. staff are also so kind and accommodating. i always have a great experience coming here, and making reservations is so easy through google!

Shabu-shabu (hot pot) was good but the portion might feel a bit small if you are young and healthy. Good for tourists or large groups.

Their pork and beef is good! And one more thing, their matcha ice cream was delicious. If you thought matcha ice cream are all the same, wait till you try it. It's somehow different from others which I've tried before. I'm not saying this because it was given free for posting this review. I wouldn't mind paying for it.

Amazing food. A lot of different textures and balanced flavors. the right taste of umami with some freshness of ponzu. I was suprised of how smooth the tofu textures were that were used in the dishes. The shabu-shabu was delicious as they used premium meat. I had a really pleasent dinner.

We had a wonderful experience here. Friendly, welcoming staff, and the food was absolutely delicious. This was our “anniversary night out” during our holiday and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate

We made a reservation through Google maps and it was easy and convenient. The place looks great, it is modern and traditional at the same time. The staff is amazingly polite and professional. They speak a little English, definitely enough to communicate. The menu, descriptions of dishes and instructions were also prepared in English. The food itself is also tasty and good quality. It was a very pleasant and interesting experience overall.

Good service and good food. A little expensive for what it is but decent. I really enjoyed the dashi broth. All the cuts of meat are fatty (all beef well marbled). Not a place for calorie counting. The sea eel was a nice change of pace.

Had their lunch set menu, no queue and no reservations on a weekday noon. Quality of their food was good. Friendly staff and quick service too. Would recommend, their set lunch is value for money.

Best shabu-shabu I’ve had! We had the Gozan set, and the pork and omi beef were both stunning. Staff was friendly and helpful. It was a highlight of our visit to Kyoto.

  • 5/5 Retno W. 1 year ago on Google
We came here for dinner, the food is in sets, we chose 2 different sets. I chose Gozan which contains beef & porkand both are very delicious. My spouse chose Premium pork, very good. Each set comes with appetizer, a few small portions, the main shabu2, udon and dessert. Both options are fabulous. We were pleasantly surprised to find how good it is. The staffs were helpful, they explained to us the ingredients, how to eat shabu2, etc..the quality of ingredients are excellent, very fresh and tasty. Highly recommended!

Really beautiful place! And very nice experience to have shabu shabu for the first time - there are multiple courses, shrimp sashimi, flame broiled mackerel nigiri, tofu and we got kobe beef, pork (which was our favorite) and snow crab. The waitstaff is very nice and the ambience is great

The outside looked very fancy and I was worried that I was underdressed. Lots of people inside were in casual clothes. Walking in makes you feel right at home. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I got the luxurious course which included kobe beef, pork, snow crab and other small dishes. Every dish had lots of flavor and looked beautiful. The meat had amazing marbling and it just melts in your mouth. The snow crab was very sweet and fresh. Best crab I've ever had. The staff was very attentive and welcoming. Overall my best meal experience on my first trip to Japan. Would love to come back again on my next trip. ❤️

Service was amazing, food was even better! I was able to make a res online through Google and even chat with them to let them know I was running late. All our servers spoke English and everything was explained very well. They also included an info sheet for beginners that explains how to eat shabu and what each ingredient is. Awesome awesome experience and Anne, our server, was so fun and amazing! We got the chefs recommended set (20K yen) and it did not disappoint at all. Everything more than exceeded expectations and I will definitely be back when I visit again. Cannot recommend more!
