I should start by saying this is an art museum and only people with a passion on art can enjoy this. That said, now going into my impressions on Munch museum. It’s one of the most amazing art museum’s I’ve ever been to. I have to say, it is very huge 😅. We spent around 4hrs in the museum and could only cover 60% of it. It’s kinda hard to pick what-I-liked here. You’ll love every minute you spend in this building. Should I choose something, I loved the Munch monumental. They have dedicated 2 floors (merged in to one insanely big room) just for this section. This room had the most popular painting like The Sun, in an unimaginable size. This place is worth another visit. My wife is an artist and she said she left a part of herself in that museum. No more words.

Amazing museum in the center of Oslo, on the shore of the fjord. It displays the work of Munch on multiple floors. The curation is great, at some point the museum offers interactive experiences. It is definitely worth visiting! After a great visit one can go to the top of the museum, and enjoy the picturesque view of Oslo (you can go up there also without buying a ticket, and enjoy a drink in the bar).

Amazing collection of art to see and a fabulous building with commanding views over the bay. The staff were warm and friendly, as is everyone in Oslo, and keen to assist. Admission was not too expensive. Well worth a visit.

I hope the interior makes up for the totally underwhelming exterior. This is not really how the design looked on paper when the general public were first shown the images of the proposed new Munch Museum several years (seemingly a lifetime ago). The exterior colour palate, textures and materials used in the final product are incredibly underwhelming, dull, flat, lifeless and uninspired. Let us hope for Oslo´s sake that the designers can pull a rabbit out of their hat!

Impressive collection of works, well organized. One can fully understand Munch and his pains throughout this exhibition. Also, other temporary exhibitions are happening, the one I saw was very good as well. Some modern art installations as well. Spectacular view from the top.

Interesting to see Munch's other work beyond "The Scream," a painting for which I have never had a particular passion. The first level exhibit was a little over-stuffed with work so I had to be careful not to miss anything. The other levels had fewer items and were more enjoyable for me to view and digest. I was impressed with a lot of his work and so glad I visited. The size is perfect to enjoy in an afternoon, I was able to see it all in 2.5 hours without having to rush. I recommend going. If you have children, a few hands-on/immersive experiences might help keep them engaged.

A very ugly building, kind of devalues the area in terms of beauty. Looks like some sort of soviet design. But it does work, it attracts attention and opinions!

Beautiful Museum. I love building , many have different view but the view from above is nice. You require to have tickets purchased or Oslo pass can include this. There are different floors with different themes. The main attraction is the scream and it's worth it. There is a floor for children games and activities so you can leave children there and enjoy other floors. The sky bar was closed when I visited but the view from above is really nice. It might take 1-2 hours to see full but if you just go for scream then it will be less. If you have Oslo pass then must visit place.

The museum's organization is exemplary, making the exploration of its vast collection a seamless and enjoyable experience. The layout is well thought out, with a logical flow that guides visitors through Munch's artistic journey. Each exhibition space is carefully curated, presenting the artworks in a manner that allows for a deeper understanding of the artist's evolution, themes, and techniques. The art displayed at the Munch Museum is a treasure trove of creativity and emotion. The collection encompasses a wide range of Munch's works, including iconic pieces such as "The Scream". The museum's commitment to preserving and showcasing Munch's art is evident, and visitors have the opportunity to delve into the artist's exploration of human emotions, existentialism, and the human condition.

This museum is probably one of the most amazing museums that I have seen in the world that is devoted primarily to one artist. It is a “must see must do” when you come to visit Oslo! The museum is most famous for housing 3 original copies of Munch’s most famous work, “The Scream”, which are alternately displayed every 30 minutes. But, the museum also houses a great body of his work, including paintings, drawings, lithographs, wood block carvings for prints, and personal items from his home. We spent almost 3 hours wandering through the displays and enjoying learning about the artist’s life and journey through the decades. It can get busy at times, so buy your tickets online if you can to avoid waiting. There is a restaurant and sky bar on the top floor, plenty of free lockers, and plenty of bathrooms. There are also some really amazing views of the city from the top floors, and a great place for photos.

Explore this exceptional museum with its expertly curated exhibits across various floors, each presenting a unique theme and tone. Enjoy the spacious areas that make absorbing the art a comfortable experience. The friendly and well-informed staff, along with an excellent gift shop, add to the overall appeal. Panoramic views of the water and opera enhance the ambiance. Don't miss the Munch Museum, featuring the fascinating rotation of three versions of "The Scream" every 30 minutes. And that's not all – this extraordinary museum offers more than art. Ascend to the rooftop for a stunning view while savoring a drink or meal at the bar and restaurant. On the ground floor, a well-stocked coffee place provides delightful food and snacks. Convenient lockers are available for visitors and I like museums who don’t close at 5 pm.

The Munch Museum in Oslo is an absolute marvel, and I cannot praise it enough. If you have any interest in art and architecture, this museum is a must-see. From the moment you approach its striking, modernist exterior, you know you’re in for a captivating experience. The museum is a breathtaking tribute to the life and work of the iconic Norwegian painter, Edvard Munch. The architecture itself is a remarkable blend of contemporary design and timeless art, designed to evoke the emotional intensity and vibrant colors that are so characteristic of Munch’s works. Inside, you’ll find an extensive collection of Munch’s paintings, drawings, and graphic works, offering a profound insight into the mind of the artist. “The Scream” and “The Madonna” are just a couple of the many iconic pieces that you’ll encounter. The museum does an outstanding job of presenting Munch’s evolution as an artist, allowing you to truly appreciate the depth of his creativity. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Munch’s work, making the experience even more enriching. The museum’s layout is user-friendly, and there’s plenty of information available to enhance your understanding of Munch’s life and art. In conclusion, the Munch Museum is a gem in the world of art and architecture. It’s a place where you can immerse yourself in the genius of Edvard Munch and the beauty of his works. If you find yourself in Oslo, this is a destination you absolutely cannot miss.

Worst museum exhibition in my life. In museum gift shop you can find more art than in museum itself. I must admit I was really puzzled to see total of 10 paintings in whole museum, paying full price as a student... But! There is nice Natural and History Museum with lovely botanical garden nearby so the journey there was not complete waste of time.

A wonderful setting for viewing Munch’s inspirational work. Set next to the famous opera house. The works are displayed in easy to view formats. We went on a weekend which was busy. If I were to go again I’d go on a weekday to allow for a quieter experience. The staff were friendly and approachable. Gift shop well stocked and laid out. All in all a great experience.

I absolutely loved the Munch museum. Not only did it have an impressive collection of Munch works but it also included other artists in both exhibition as well as more permanent display. I really enjoyed the other pieces from surrealists on display as well. I highly recommend going here and getting lost in the art.

If you're a fan of the expressionist style, you will be happy at the Munch museum. They do a good job of making it digestible by breaking up the exhibits onto separate floors. Not only will you be able to see The Scream, but many other Munch works and similar expressionist and impressionist artists. As a bonus, they have a rooftop bar and restaurant that will give you amazing views of Oslo harbor. Not to be missed! All in all, I'd estimate 90mins for your visit.

very beautiful architecture and design inside the museum. Especially love the floor where they showcased the home of Munch. The interactive elements of the exhibition is great. The only thing is they have three versions of the famous painting Scream and they only display one of them each hour. We didn’t have enough time to see three of them :(

I knew that Edvard Munch was much more than "Scream", so I was looking forward to discovering more of his works. The museum didn't disappoint. Sure there are still many depressing and quite dark pieces on display, but you can also find lighter uplifting paintings and marvel at the monumental works of this great Norwegian artist. Don't skip going all the way to the top of the building for the views of the city.

Super Museum.

This is one of the most interesting and nicest museums I have visited. I liked not only the extensive Munch collection, but the other floors of the museum too. We even catched a performance on the last floor and was very cool. The view with the bar upstairs is just WOW. Must visit fo Oslo for sure!

You haven't really seen Oslo, or Norway for that matter, until you've seen Munch, and this is the place to have a full immersion experience. Plan some extra time to walk around the area too. Lots of restaurant options with great outdoor spaces in summer.

A must-see museum! Do set aside few hours to cover this place since it is a 13 story museum. We started off with lunch at the café - good food - stored our bags and coats in the free locker and made our way to the top floor exhibits and worked our way down. There was so much to see and take in we started skipping around once we got to the non-Munch exhibits on the lower level. We did not know much about Munch aside from his famous "The Scream" but we walked out learning more about the artist. If you have no evening plans this is a great place to be since it is opened until 9pm from Wed-Sat and be sure to check out the rooftop where you get a bird's-eye view of the city!

A nice and aesthetically-pleasing gallery of Munch's masterpieces. I had a great time and discussion on the masterpieces with a like-minded friend. I had seen the scream painting many times before at different places and it was a pleasant surprise to see the original and to know more about the artist.

The museum was tiny and they didn't have the original "scream" painting which apparently is at the national museum. They had 10 paintings of Munch at best and the rest was filled with his photography. I am pretty sure that the Barbican has more Munch paintings than this one. It's almost rude how much money they are charging for the entrance. Would definitely recommend. Go to the national museum instead.

The exhibition of photographs by Munch stands apart. (Original) Музей относительно маленький, но здорово организованный. Six(!) paintings, none of which having any particular importance, on display. The 60 kr entrance fee has no value and the museum will refuse any refunds. Note that there are absolutely no warnings that the museum is virtually shut down, neither at the museum nor online. Unfortunately, the National Gallery is closed for renovations, so until it reopens next year the only chance to view Munch paintings are these six.

NO BUY TICKET AFTER 3pm! I was disappointed that the two famous versions of the Scream are hidden and are only exhibited one at a time, and every other hour. So for the last time they are exhibited one at 4pm and one at 5pm. If you buy the 4.30pm ticket (like me) you will only see the one on display at 5pm and not both. I find it incorrect.

The museum is nice, the restaurant on the top floor even nicer. The cafe on the ground floor reminds to a hospital cantine. The whole ground floor with its cafeteria and the little shop is architectural and content wise a lost chance for something new as the outside architecture promises…

Absolutely stunning work displayed. The tickets were not that expensive and his art is displayed on different levels. Even with crowds you can still get around and see everything. Not only do thay have his art but also his sketchpad so you see his drawing from start/design phase all the way through. What an experience. I will definitely be going back as I didn't give myself enough time and missed 2 levels. So make sure that you plan to spend a while. Definitely worth the visit.

Very modern museum and the building is just breath taking, especially in the evening or night. The exhibition is good with the main highlight the scream. The sky bar is the second highlight. It is in the 13th floor and you can get there via the elevator from the ground floor. The view from up there is just awesome. The drink prices are pretty high but not that much higher than at other places in Oslo.

I was very excited to visit the new Munch museum after watching the NRK documentary about how they moved everything from the old one here. In the documentary they mention that they have something like 30 000 pieces from Munch! Incredible. After visiting the museum I am a bit disappointed that the exhibitions over 11 floors show maybe 150 pieces in total (if even). Where are the rest? There are some floors being used for exhibitions of visiting artists which is of course normal and nice but the one exhibition was literally 3 silver metal S shapes in a dark room with strobing lights. Another floor was just a room where visitors could draw on the walls - very cool idea but maybe it could be just a corner somewhere instead of a whole floor. Would have loved to see some more Munch masterworks instead! The art that is there was very nice to see, especially the lesser known works. Munch really produced a lot of varied works, fascinating. The art is divided into themes and it's nice to see the progression of Munch's art. Sadly both the sky bar and top restaurant are closed on Sundays but at least you can still go to the top floor to see the view. The cafeteria on the ground floor leaves much to be desired. Hope to visit when the exhibitions change - hopefully some more Munchs will be there next time!

An amazing modern building hosting the works of Edvard Munch on 12 floors. There is everything from museum to eat and drink and shopping. The art work / exhibition is very well organized based on the different themes and had a nice flow. Apart from the well known works of Munch, the museum exhibits works of other artists. The museum next to waterfront, well maintained and is beautiful inside and outside with friendly staff. The views from each of the floors and especially sky bar across Bjørvika are amazing. With visiting when in Oslo.

The museum galleries with Munch's paintings and other famous artists. You d o not have to be an expert to visit this place. You can easily spend a couple of hours by viewing this excellent piece of work and enjoying the moments. It worth a visit, especially in the days which the museum is open until the evening, as all other museums are close.

This was a fantastic gallery for art buffs and skeptics alike. We took our three t(w)eens, ages 10, 13 and 15, and they all loved it. In addition to the expected art, there was a temporary exhibit in which you could draw on the walls and floor, an interactive exhibit exploring the home of Edvard Munch, work by a wide variety of artists, and absolutely fantastic views out over Oslo from the top floor. I strongly recommend you start at the top and work your way down. I cannot recommend this gallery highly enough!

I have been to many great museums but this one has to be one of the most diverse, cool and modern ones out there. I didn't enjoy all the collections but most of them were actually really beautiful, or creative, genuinely funny or simple a spectacular example of the artistic mind of Munch. Will return some day.

I suggest you to buy Oslo pass, with you can enter in all the museum of the city and you can also took the ferry and the metro wherever you want. The cost of the ticket depends how many days you want to use it! The museum is thoughtfully curated, with each piece displayed in a way that allows you to appreciate the full breadth of Munch's work. Whether you're drawn to his iconic painting "The Scream" or you're more interested in his lesser-known pieces, you'll find plenty to love here.

Interesting and with a great view. Munch museum located at the very center of Oslo offers a cultural experience of a well-known local artist. The museum has several expositions across the different floors with all the paintings, techniques, and materials used from Edvard Munch. At the rooftop, there is a bar and a terrace in which there is a view of all the surroundings. Although you don't consume, I really recommend going and taking some pictures. The experience at all was great and the staff was very kind.

Before you visit, book a slot on the museum’s website otherwise you will need to wait on the spot for the closest available one. We were here on a Tuesday, mid-August, and there were a lot of visitors. Happily we found empty lockers but it was quite a challenge as several of them were broken. The museum has several floors on which there are Munch’s drawings, paintings, personal belongings and even kind of an artistic reconstruction of some elements of his home. Each 30 mins different version of “The Scream” is displayed - however please note, that the first and most famous one is not here but in the National Gallery. Here are three other versions of it: a painting, a drawing and a print. On the top floor there was a fun space called The Chamber of Chaos but it was one of its last days; I believe this place is dedicated to rather temporary ideas/visions. Amazing views of Oslo are on the 12th floor, difficult to have from any other point in the city.

Architectonically speaking is an amazing place, you won’t get disappointed. The order and logistics inside works good, although they could use all the floors better. You won’t get disappointed about “The scream”, take your time, they change the painting every half an hour and the three of them are in the same hall. The skybar and the terrace have an amazing view of Oslo Fjord, it’s worthy to go there. Remember the good thing about Wednesdays from 18:00. I will definitely come back to this place.

Really fantastic museum. Absolutely delighted to have seen the scream (beware they show the versions in increments of 30 mins so plan your walk through the museum based on that). Also great interactive sections about Munch's life aside from the paintings. Lovely rooftop bar with great view (we just went up for the view). Great little shop too and a cafe.

Really love the artist's work, but would not recommend visiting. Turns out there's a new one being built therefore this one is mostly empty. Seems very little time has been spent on the exhibition, it's just one room with some paintings. They don't have the original scream, but instead have a pastel version. It's still great, but it's as if they've put it in a dark corner so no one will notice..

I definitely enjoyed my time there, even though it was the last-minute decision to come. As far as I understood, this spring they are going to move to another building, so this is basically the last chance to see it in this historical building. On the first floor, there are a coffee shop and a small souvenir shop. However, the whole collection that was shown was a bit too small I would say.

The museum is of course great as you expect. The only problem is that when I visited, it was reduced due to moving. Basically I wasn't able to see all the floors and some of the best paintings were not accessible cause already packed and ready to move to a new place. I'm fine with that but the price should be reduce.

(Translated by Google) Speaking of Munch, "The Scream of Munch" is famous, but there are many other masterpieces in Munch. Since I have seen many works at the Munch Museum, I would like to introduce you to the Munch Museum and Munch's masterpieces. In addition to Munch's works, goods from around the world that collaborated with Munch are on display, and they also collaborate with Japanese manga and Pikachu. It also exhibits Munch's life, including photographs and painting materials of the atelier used by Munch, passports, posters of Munch exhibitions held in various countries, and a death mask when Munch died. Also, at the Munch shop, there are goods that can only be bought here, so the price is high, but it is a good souvenir. I visited in July 2019. For me, Munch painted very close to life - his own style and content make the artist interesting. In addition to the Munch Museum, you should also visit the National Gallery. Then you've already seen 2 of the "screams". Of the 4 pictures, 3 are still in Oslo (hopefully it will stay that way) and one was sold to New York. For me, however, the most beautiful pictures are the Madonna, The Kiss and Dance of Life. Munch Museum and National Gallery can both be visited with the Oslocard. In the summer of 2018 the exhibition was titled: "Between clock and bed". Besides, the scream couldn't be seen there. To the scream - the picture is 4 times. 2x it is owned by the Munchmuseum (one is still being restored due to 2 thefts and one is currently on loan), one is privately owned (for US $ 120 million) by Leon Black and the main version is in the National Gallery in Oslo .

(Translated by Google) I had visited this museum in the summer of 2016, having been a long time I was happy to return. I remembered large rooms full of paintings, many of the very famous, when I entered I did not want to believe them: two rooms for two nice exhibitions which are absolutely not worth the price of the full ticket, otherwise totally inaccessible, and the indecent thing is that beyond the 'announcement on the site "the museum is moving to another location" there is no warning about the fact that no museum will be visited! A trap, in practice. And 120 + 80NOK thrown in the toilet, literally. (Original) Avevo vistato questo museo nell'estate 2016, essendo passato un bel po' di tempo avevo piacere a tornare. The new Munch Museum was not open at the moment, so the exhibition was very limited in numbers, as we had the Oslo pass we didn't get frustrated about the entrance price but we spent literally only 20 minutes in watching the art pieces. We were really looking forward to see all the art of Munch, sadly they didn’t mention that there was nothing to see. You should put a banner on the website and also mention at the entrance (before people buy a ticket) that it’s a small exhibition and that there is nothing else to see. Wouldn’t recommend to go now, waist of money… We should at least gotten a discount…

Amazing and extremely large museum! Price was not outrageous and when you walk in you are offered free lockers and a storage place for your belongings (you can set your own combo for security). As with everything else in Norway is hands free, once you receive your ticket you can scan and take escalators or elevator to the various exhibits. Almost every floor has a different portion of Munch history. One floor even has a Green Room emercion experience (only 1 at a time). The floor with the largest exhibition of Munch paintings is divided into 15 categories all themeded. This is where you will find 3 versions of the famous Scream painting. They are not all displayed at the same time to preserve them and minimize light exposure. The museum is very child friendly with little peep holes scattered for children or adults to enjoy. There was even a create your own painting with wood press. While we were there COVID restrictions prevented us from trying it out. Top floor provides an amazing view of the harbor and a coffee shop or cafeteria (also closed while we there due to covid restrictions). Finally on the ground level there is a souvenirs shop and another cafeteria/restaurant that are both open to the public.

The closest a museum have to being an airport. Interesting building and exhibition. I feel however many other modern museums have been able to make the interactivity more integrated into the exhibition. At the Munch museum there is one floor which is the "kids floor" but that's about it for interactivity. Adults would like to interact too! To me, the most intense and beautiful was the picture of Munch's sister. You can tell he really really worked hard on this. The intensity in the colors can't be copied - you would just have to see it yourself. This was the highlight for me. We paid 16 euro per person, which needs to be bought at a specific time. Recommend doing so in advance.

IT is worth seeing, need 2-4 hours for that or event whole day, paintings, drawings and other masterpieces put info one place and different floors so as to divide whole life of this great artist into stages. Combine this with outstanding interiors and music in the background and you have art center which is up-to-date and thought provoking.

Impressive collection of art pieces from various artists. Then we also get to see multiple Munch focused exhibition halls. Surreal experience for me because I've only seen some pieces in textbooks or in art classes. Never thought I'd get to see actual Munch artworks. Wonderful experience overall. 10/10 Will not include pictures of the actual artworks, definitely worth it to view in person.

Brilliant exhibits, delicious Scream 😱 burger, fantastic view from one of the top floors of the museum’s state of the art architecture. I also loved the pedagogy. I strongly recommend to get tickets in advance. We wanted to visit the museum in the afternoon of my birthday but even with an Oslo pass we would have to wait for over 2 hours so we decided to rather return the next day. Nonetheless 5 stars ⭐️😄

If you're a fan of the Norwegian artist Edvard Munch, the Munch Museum is an absolute must-visit. From the moment you step inside, you're surrounded by stunning pieces that showcase Munch's unique style and perspective. The museum is thoughtfully curated, with each piece displayed in a way that allows you to appreciate the full breadth of Munch's work. Whether you're drawn to his iconic painting "The Scream" or you're more interested in his lesser-known pieces, you'll find plenty to love here. But what really sets the Munch Museum apart is the atmosphere. The space is modern, spacious, and flooded with natural light, making it the perfect place to immerse yourself in Munch's world. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and you can tell they're passionate about Munch and his art. And don't miss the top floor, where you'll find a fantastic restaurant and bar with breathtaking views of the city. It's the perfect place to relax after taking in all the amazing art, and the menu features delicious dishes and drinks inspired by Norwegian cuisine. Overall, I can't recommend the Munch Museum highly enough. It's a true gem in the heart of Oslo, and a must-visit for anyone who appreciates art, history, and culture. And with the addition of the restaurant and bar on the top floor, it's the perfect destination for a full day of exploration and indulgence.

Amazing museum, if you have 2-3 extra hours in Oslo, I strongly recommend coming here. Especially if it’s raining :) I learned a lot about Munch, very enjoyable experience🙌 There are also interactive parts. You can easily spend a full day there, there are other temporary exhibitions as well. Also make sure to get audio guide, it makes the experience full, and it’s very though-through🎧 The view is amazing as well. Unfortunately, the restaurant on top floor was closed as we came on Sunday, but you can have a break in a cafe on a ground floor.

Wonderful art gallery! We thought that just seeing one artist's work may become a little boring after a while but this was absolutely not the case here! The exhibitions were well thought out and there was access to everythojg for everyone plus little fun things thrown in.The Alice Neel exhibition was a wonderful addition to Munch's work Great building too!

This Museum is great for those who can appreciate art, otherwise find somewhere else, because this 12 storey building is packed with the best artworks of Edvard Munch (mungkh), It will take you at least an hour just on his gallery alone, because if you want to see the 3 different versions of the "Scream" there is a 30 minutes interval before you can see each version because they don't show it at the same time, for some precautionary measures. But all in all for an art lover like me it's definitely worth your time❤️

  • 5/5 Alan K. 6 months ago on Google
What a fabulous gallery and museum! The different exhibitions of Munch's work all complement one another but 'Infinity' was outstanding. Two hours proved to be enough for a first visit. A good thing as I only had two hours having travelled from Bergen on the Bergensbanen the same day. Total sensory overload! I'll definitely be coming back...

Over 26,000 artwork displayed! so many levels as well. I was amazing by the art, each art was more beautiful than the other. Let alone “The Scream” painting, all 3 versions were there in the museum! Though, each version is only displayed for 30 min. each due to the painting being fragile. Theres a cafe as well and the gift shop is to die for!! Highly recommend

Great museum, very easy to navigate, sky bar on top can be accessible without buying a ticket to the exhibition. There are 3 different versions of the scream displayed in the museum but the exhibition rotates the paintings every 30 minutes, displaying only one of the three artworks at a time, to preserve the colors.

One of the better museums I have been too, not too many people. The layout of everything was very logically done. Nice how there are lockers in the bottom floor which are free. The bathroom is the most aesthetic bathroom I have ever been too. On the 4th floor are 3 scream versions, they change every 30 minutes and the employees do not know which one will open up but it will take over 2 hours to see all of them. Then you get to learn about his life and different type of art forms. Overall amazing museum and the top level has such a nice view of the city, higher than the opera house.
