Everyone was very friendly and the food was exceptional. Also, good beer selection and a cozy atmosphere. I highly recommend checking this place out πŸ‘Œ

Great basement bar on Elgin. Like most places on the street, parking is limited, so be prepared to walk. They don't take reservations, but the wait will be short - if you arrive before 8. The menu is 50% vegetarian, and all the options are diverse! The menu has a range of neat items with cool specials that change every night. The bar has a long beer list as well as a variety of board games near the washrooms. Staff is incredibly friendly and funny.

best bar in canada they know how to pour guiness and thats all that really matters. look no further the lamb curry was actually really good. how a bunch of white people in the middle of nowhere knew how to cook such a well spiced lamb is beyond me, but they know what theyre doing.

The lamb wrap was excellent - they don't skimp on the filling! The potato wedges were perfectly crispy and the garlic mayo is a must (personally, we could have shared one between two people). The server was hospitable and attentive. Really good experience!

What a pleasant surprise from an unassuming pub with some seriously unique vibes! It was both my friend’s and my first time here and we were blown away by how delicious the food was. We ordered the burger and the naan pizza on the specials menu. Both were amazing. In particular, their take on fries was unique and very tasty. As depicted in the photo, you get these thick, hearty potato slices that you might think feel more like potato wedges than fries, but they’re still super crunchy and crispy on the outside, and pleasantly pillowy on the inside. Service was great and they serve their own brand of beer… Not much else to say. Bravo.

Fish and chips Friday's are great. If you don't want all fries you can get it "half and half" which is half salad or dust get a salad.

When I first walked in, I was concerned that the food would be "typical shabby pub fare" but I was pleasantly surprised! I had one of the board specials - A pesto pasta with wild mushrooms and pork belly - and it was delicious! My table mates also thoroughly enjoyed their meal! Great selection of local beers and wonderful service! Will for sure be coming back!

I was walking to another restaurant a week ago and walked past their patio and checked out the menu. The staff said kitchen just closed but he can check if they might still do something if I wanted a takeout and really glad I did order the short rib. One of the best beef short rib I had in Ottawa with a rich sauce, mushrooms, potatoes and I think polenta. very nice dish! Added Oct 3 - The short rib was the highlight before and returned for brunch hoping to do a take out of short rib for Mom but it was only available for dinner. Had the eggs Benedict and I really wanted to like it but cheddar biscuit was far too dense and the potatoes was mashed and had a number of undercooked lumps. They offered to bring out a salad and it seemed only greens got hit with dressing not the carrots and the other veggies. Not sure about ventilation and I had not dined in since summer and been doing patios. I can feel draft of air circulation and was a tad concerned. Do not think I will do brunch again here since they do not do takeout for brunch and not that comfortable with that space being extremely careful due to visits to LTC to see family.

Great food and really good prices! The scones were chai spice and chocolate chip and they were amazing and hot-- felt fresh. Staff is very friendly and pleasant 😊 The wait times are a bit long but the food is worth it. Just be cautioned that they do get lines out the door but don't take reservations, so make sure you have extra time and a backup in case.

A great cosy local pub. Stopped in on Friday and managed to snag a seat at the bar - the place was packed. Had the lamb curry wrap which was huge and delicious. The fries were amazing. This is one of my favourite pubs in Ottawa.

Easily the best pub in Ottawa! I've been going here for years. Friendly staff, and a really good selection of wine and beer. The food is amazing!!! Not too many places were you can get two meals and a few beers for under $75 that are of this quality. Order the pork chop; you won't be sorry. Lamb curry wrap is awesome, too.

I love the scones so much that I would consider coming here solely for that. One of my favourite brunch places downtown! Everything is fairly delicious & it's a cute little place. I've heard the brunch lines can be a bit long sometimes but I've never had to wait too long.

Cozy basement spot tucked in a little nook on Elgin. Went for brunch and it was a very warm and welcoming spot. The food was great (the side potatoes are delicious) and we were in and out within a timely manner. Well-priced and nice for weekend brunches.

I have been going here for years and the staff are so warm, funny, and knowledgeable. The food is always great, and the beer selection is excellent. This place is an institution. Try the specials. The pastas are always delicious. If you are vegetarian or vegan, try the grilled chicken wrap and sub chicken for salt and pepper tofu. It's so good! Another tip: Do half potato wedges and half salad for the sides!

Really good brunch spot for vegans and non-vegans. There is only one vegan option for brunch- the curried vegan tofu scramble - but it is really good. Super friendly service. Highly recommend.

A pleasant 1st experience for an unassuming pub in Ottawa. A great cozy local pub that offers good food, good vibes, and friendly service. Lived in Ottawa all my life and never went to the Manx until last Wednesday night with some friends. They have nightly specials that are definitely worth checking out! I had the lamb curry wrap with their salad and potatoes wedges : 10/10 would recommend. I usually don’t like potato wedges but these were drool worthy- perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Guinness on draft is a must.

I appreciate that they still check vaccine passports however they seat you way too close to other patrons for my liking. Prices seemed expensive at first but ended up being taxes included (I think?), which was nice. Our server was great, and brought our drinks over quickly. The mixture of how loud it was and how close you're seated to other tables probably means I won't give it another try. But if that's your scene, it could be worth a shot.

Ordered a club sandwich and it was very dry. Had a strange dank basement aroma in the flavour. Had been looming forward to this place for years, but it was very disappointing.

The listed business hours said it was open and serving brunch, but it definitely was not. Frustrating to drive across town to eat and arrive to find the door locked and lights off. Update your hours and do a better job of communicating with your customers.

Our go to on Saturday / Sunday for brunch. Food is really good. It is a locals hangout in the "Golden Triangle" neighbourhood. Cool vibe with a cozy atmosphere. We also stopped in here for dinner quite often. Great beer selection too.

The best local pub that's also veg/vegan friendly. You can't go wrong with a special, but the lamb curry wrap is exceptional, as is their homemade bread that accompanies pastas and soups. It's also a great brunch spot.

Had a really nice time at The Manx. It was recommended by a friend, very low-key vibes which is what we were looking for. We had the wedge fries with one of the best garlic mayo. Everyone at the bar was so nice, we had a great chat with them. Recommend this for a low-key night :)

I have literally never had a bad meal or experience here. Value and service are top tier. You can’t go wrong with any of their specials ! Bonus points for yummy plant based options :-) β€” (Edit): I keep forgetting I have already reviewed this pub, so I tend to come back every time I have a scrummy meal. Would give multiple 5 stars if I could !

Sunday brunch is a long wait for food and you're in really close quarters with a bunch of people. It's difficult to hear each other speak over the din. I feel like they might be understaffed. HOWEVER, this is the best I've seen a restaurant handle wait times, they kept us supplied with coffee, brought us a scone to hold us over. Wait staff were friendly. Food was great and perfectly well-priced. Cozy atmosphere

The Manx is an Ottawa standard that has been around for decades. The atmosphere is low key and the staff is beyond friendly. The only possible drawback is the size of the venue and the lighting, it starts to feel cramped when there are 40 patrons or more and the fact that it is in the basement means there is no natural lighting. If you are looking for a cozy pub with dim lighting, this place is for you. The food is upscaled pub fare and they have local beer on tap. The chef is creative and cares about the quality of food leaving the kitchen and the satisfaction of the guests. This review is based on many visits over many years and the experience has remained consistent over decades of patronage. Thank you to the management and staff of the Manx. I will be a loyal patron of your establishment for years to come.

One of my favourite spots in the city. Great food, excellent veggie options, decent service (it can get a bit busy, no fault of the servers). Highly recommended.

Came for brunch hearing all about the great recommendations. I ordered the eggs benedict and it was tasteless - the hollandaise sauce did not taste like anything? It was very odd. Was also thrown off by mashed potatoes at breakfast. Wondering if this was a one-off bad day for them because the reviews are all so good!

This is our favorite pub in Ottawa! Great food and beer selection, with amazing veggie options. We usually go for dinner, but had their brunch today (the Soho & Eggs Benedict) which did not disappoint.

Went to the John Metcalf event and really enjoyed ourselves. My partner had the Curry cauliflower and I had the curried lamb wrap. The portions were huge and the food was delicious. The service was great. We really do have a good time whenever we go to The Manx. It's an Ottawa institution!

I wish I could give them 10 stars. Sure, the food was delicious (best burger I’ve ever had), but it was the staff that really shone. They were friendly, helpful and kind, both to their regulars and new customers. Highly recommend this adorable little place.

The food was leagues beyond pub food qualify, yet the same price. Check out the daily specials, always something exciting.

The food here is so tasty! So many restaurants these days are charging 20+ for a dish and you're left feeling disappointed with the quality and quantity of the food. Not here! The good is always delicious and filling. I've been a long time lover of their chickpea burger, but last night I tried their tofu BBQ sandwich and it was SO TASTY (and big!). The service here is always good, and they have a wide range of drinks. Also their daily soups are...super. ;) The only possible downsides are a smaller wine list and that it can get crowded and stuffy when it's busy. Still one of my favourite spots in town.

A hidden gem on Elgin Street. Great ambience, very helpful staff, delicious food & a good selection of drinks. This place is always a hit for me personally. The only con is that you will not always find a spot because it's too busy.

  • 5/5 Poke S. 4 years ago on Google
Awesome place awesome atmosphere. Food is great and the drinks are better. Try the salmon it's unreal, the perfect level of acidity with the dijon mustard.

The brunch was good. Very happy with the Manx potatoes. However, I will say that I was displeased with the service. After refilling our coffee refilled for the first time we were essentially asked to leave. We had not been there long. Also, when filling the coffee, the spout of the carafe touched the lip of our mugs and everyone else’s in the restaurant. Wasn’t pleased with that given the situation.

Must-go pub - fries are perfect. I've been here many times, and I'm always happy with the experience. On the busy nights, I can tell that the servers are a bit overwhelmed, and not as courteous as they could be. Every time I have dined here, it has been difficult to hear my friends who are all seated closely, but it's not a big problem for us. :) Menu items are more creative and seasoned better than ordinary pubs, with plenty of veg options. The fries are so perfect: thick wedges that are crispy on the outside, and cooked soft on the inside. The salad for a side option is nice and light, along with the dressing. I haven't tried all of the mains yet, but the ones I have tried have been amazing.

A very local spot that lacks ego, but keeps alot of charm. It's tight quarters but the beer selection and service is great. Chill vibe, and smacks of a more classic English pub. Recommend for friends but not for a fancy affair.

Went to this pub because of the high ratings, very limited menu and no information about ingredients. The waitress was of no help, extremely rude, and barely waiting the table. I prefer leutenants pump which is just across the street and way more friendly.

The Manx is a Centretown gem, there's a reason why this place has existed for so long. Great atmosphere, extensive bar selection, lengthy beer list with attentive and friendly staff - it's easy to lose track of time in this place. There's a variety of delicious dishes (including vegetarian options) and don't forget to look at the daily specials board on your way in, there's always something new to try. If you're looking for a lively atmosphere and fun with friends, I'd highly recommend this place - I've been going for the past 7 years and have never been disappointed.

Great food, solid vibe, excellent service, vast drink selection. An Ottawa staple. My only nit pick is I wish they'd offer normal sized fries. The large potato wedges are a weak point in my opinion. Other than that, one of the best!
