We had a lunch gathering for our group of 6. This is our friend's usual joint and is recommended by her. Our first time to try this restaurant. This place is quite big in size. Good music playing in the background. The menu is quite simple. We all ordered the "Deluxe Square Pizza" (Pepperoni, green peppers and mushrooms) to be shared by each couple. The square pizza was quite big and we didn't finish it and had to take the left-over home. The pizza tasted ok. I think the taste would have been better if the pizza was hot in temperature. I guess the server waited for all the pizza were done before bringing to our table. If we got hot and not warm pizza, I would have given 4 stars.

we arrived just after 7 pm on Saturday night. We had been referred here by several people. I must say when we entered we were unimpressed. We walked here from the marina on Dow's Lake passing several restaurants with outdoor seating and long waits. As we entered the Prescott, it was like a ghost town.. We hesitated whether to stay...but we did & we were impressed! We opted to share a meatball sandwich AND we ordered 2 mini pizzas (we wanted leftovers for our boat voyage tomorrow) I would highly recommend both! Our waitress was also excellent, and efficient. The ambiance is relaxing and homey. The line of telephone booths were a blast from the past. I would return here whenever I'm in Ottawa!

After 30+ years, revisiting the Prescott was a blessing. Of course, gone were the metal change makers on the belts of the waiters and the wall of smoke that you walked into and waded through to find your table and order a quart, but the famous meatball sandwich was just as good today as it was back then. It was fun swapping stories with the young lads who were serving and telling them about "the good old days" when we'd come by for lunch at 12, leave at 2, check emails at Jetform, then go back at 2:30 for more bodily harm....

Terrible experience today. First, I ordered a "Prescott Pizza" which is supposed to come with green peppers. As you can see from the picture, 0 green peppers. Second, the dough wasn't fully cooked. Not sure how they did this, but the bottom half was really dry and the top half was not fully cooked and doughy. Third, the pizza was oddly cold. I'm under the impression someone had cancelled a deluxe order and we ended up getting stuck with it. I remember this place being legendary back in the day, it's obviously lost its luster. Shame

I'm actually suprised this place has really good food. I always pass by this place without ever checking it out except during covid where it had dine in outside. The food has a really decent portion size and the fish and chips are really delicious. Would reccomend them anyday.

Fries are one of the best ever but the pizza was the worst I’ve ever had. Nothing about it was good, the dough tasted like croutons and the toppings weren’t good either. Based on the pizza I wouldn’t come back here. They were short on cooks though not sure if that made a difference today.

I unfortunately have had the displeasure of eating at this establishment twice. The first time should have told me everything I needed to know. I had ordered and got delivered the Fettuccini Alfredo (if you can even call it that), and ended up with watery pasta that had absolutely no flavour or creaminess. I would have been better off using a bottled sauce from the store. My second attempt at having a decent meal here involved me getting take-out, the pepperoni pizza. The fact that the pizza box advertises "Ottawa's Favourite Since 1934" is comical. The pizza was drier than the Sahara desert, so unbelievably under seasoned, and all around tasting like cardboard. Not to mention, it looked like it was cooked a week prior and left to sit on the counter. Some say, "third time's a charm", but I will not be taking my chances by returning for a third time. The food is overpriced, the staff are hit and miss with their friendliness, and the atmosphere of the restaurant is abysmal. Getting take-out on a Saturday night from a nearly empty restaurant was a red flag I should've paid more attention to. Now I know.

My fiance and I came in, and sat ourselves as there was no indication of what we needed to do. The volume on the speakers was WAY too loud, so we moved to the "least loud" (not to be confused with quiet) table we could find. After what seemed like an eternity, a new server greeted us and took our order. We ordered a couple of drinks and our dishes. The drinks and food came to our table fairly quickly, which was nice. My fiance ordered the fish and chips, and while the fish was fine, a place like this really shouldn't be serving what were very obviously frozen, pre-cut fries (which were severly under, BTW). I had the famous square pepperoni pizza, and it was.. also fine. Nothing to write home about. The food was completely forgettable. Nothing great, nothing terrible. Our server never bothered to come ask how anything was during our meal, further proving the point that The Prescott doesn't really care. Avoid if you have any other options. I was going to give this 1-star, but the food wasn't AWFUL, so 2 it is. If there was a 1.5 option I would have gone that route.

This place is an institution. The food is always great, Beer is cold. Unfortunately Ottawa does whatever developers want so they will probably try and build a condo soon. Enjoy it while you can.

This place has a great atmosphere and awesome customer service. But the food is only sub par. Ordered pizza for me and my kids and it was completely hard, burnt and black on the bottom. I was in such a hurry that I had no time to complain.. Question for the kitchen; How do you make a pizza that burnt and still decide to serve it to a paying customer?

This Ottawa institution never disappoints !! A skate on the Rideau canal on a Sunny Sunday.... a short walk from Dows Lake for a super frosty quart and a meatball sandwich (don't miss this culinary gem)! It doesn't get any better!!! Excellent service also!!!

Ordered a pizza on skip the dishes from here. The crust was 70% burnt, hard as a rock, and unedible. I was so hungry I ate the 30% edible parts. Also ordered a bottle of corona and it was completely skunky. Std gave me a full refund but if this is typical of this restaurant how are they even in business? One bright side of the pandemic is that garbage restaurants like this will permanently shut down. Gross.

The pizza was the worst I've ever tasted, but the fries are some of the finest ever. The dough tasted like croutons, and neither the toppings nor anything else about it was decent. I wouldn't return here if it weren't for the pizza. They had a shortage of cooks, but it's unclear whether it mattered today.

So the roof top patio is amazing, great seating and atmosphere, service seems new and inexperienced, also an Italian pub with zero Italian beers broke my heart, nachos were over cooked. However I am aware they have the best meatball sandwich just didn't have the chance to try, I definitely recommend the rooftop mostly for the cozy atmosphere. Probably the best view on preston

If the walls could talk! We had a pleasant dinner at the Prescott after a colleague was talking about their square pizza. It’s a tavern so don’t expect too much when it comes to decor - it’s a simple spot with great food. The tables are a little sticky (most likely from all the beer that has been spilled on there) but it’s charming and certainly fits the vibe. Had their famous Dewey square pizza with a side Caesar salad. Hubby had the meatball sandwich (sorry no picture!) and loved it. Our server was filled with such great historical information about the establishment. We look forward to returning sooner than later !

Prescott was great! Friendly staff, fast service, and great value! The meatball sandwich is a must try but make sure you have a nap planned if you have it for lunch!

Coming to this place for 45 years. Crispy square pizza and round beers... it just doesn't get any better than this! This is a throwback to a much simpler time where puerile gathered in large dining halls and enjoyed good food, sports and conversation. It would be a sin not to mention the meatball sandwiches.

Very nice staff, a few things that just made the visit a more so okay visit rather than an amazing visit. Had a very good pasta meal, apparently they're known for their meatballs! Very good meatballs.

If there was an option of no stars that's what this place deserves. Went as a family of 5 to this restaurant and was a total disappointment. All 5 dishes were disappointing. Alfredo fettuccine was sub standard but the lasagna, meat sandwiche, spaghetti and meatballs and the nachos were truly tasteless and bland. The meatball meat were cold and crumbled at the poke of the fork. The lasagna was stale and had an odd odour. The spaghetti dish was literally untouched. Our concerns were brought forward to the waitresses whom acknowledged the situation but made no attempts to rectify the concerns. Left with a hefty bill of $140 with tip...and upset stomachs. Please do not advertise "authentic Italian food " .

A friend told me about The Prescott, saying good things about it and how it's been around for many years. Decided to give it a try, and it was one of the worst food decisions I've ever made since coming to Ottawa 6 years ago. I hate to post a review like this about a local restaurant, but it's necessary as my nearly $30 order was completely wasted. I ordered the pasta with meat sauce and, as another reviewer mentioned previously, it literally tasted like chef-boyarde. My thought was that I'd get a plate of authentic, traditional Italian style pasta + meat sauce, yet what I got was a plate of food that was bland, tasteless, and like it was microwaved. Also the pasta noodles were overcooked and the quality seemed like they were bought for 0.60 cents at a local grocery store. I do take some responsibility upon myself being that I ordered here with high positive expectations before even trying the food, in part due to it being a long-standing restaurant which I though would automatically mean long-standing quality. This was a big mistake on my part. Very disappointed about my food experience with this place. I get that local businesses are going through tough times for the last 1+ year - hence one of the reasons why I don't like posting reviews of this nature - but this was just unacceptable. I could've made this same dish at home in 10 minutes/less at a tenth of the price I paid for it, and it would've tasted the same if not better and I have no chef background. I will mention that I've never tried any of their other dishes, so perhaps maybe those are tastier/more popular among their customers. However, this experience was enough for me to not dine at the Prescott in the future. Regardless how my food experience was, I wish them well and hopefully they can make some changes to their pasta dishes going forward.

Thank you for always being the best and consistent. The place you go back for memories. If this is you're first time you will be back. With friends or with your kids, you will have a story to share about the place. Built in days where the cheaper building materials have become what makes you think of the good old days. I'm just fond on the flooring. The way they were built compared to now brings me a feeling of things were nice in those days. Details were important. Oh yeah the food... Well after so many years of perfecting their recipes and not changing them... You're garanteed great pizza amazing sandwiches and awesome staff.

What a lovely evening all around. Only went in cause of the Guinness sign, but we were all so happy with everything. Our server was a young guy with a mustache and he was awesome and just chill all around. Good food, nice atmosphere and decently priced. Will definitely be back again with the boys.

Can't go wrong with their meals with meatballs. They can accommodate large groups which is a plus. All the meals I had there are good. It's one of my favourite go-to places for a get-together with friends. Parking is either on the street or a big lot off Beech St. Either way, it's paid parking although the on-street parking on Beech is free and unlimited after 5:50 pm during the week. Not sure about the weekends.

You can feel the Canadian vibes, the ambiance, the large meals, the sports channels playing hockey and baseball. It was an enjoyable experience, the portions were big and tasty. We went there around 3 in the afternoon but I think it's a different experience at night, I feel like the place gets packed specially when there's a live game.

I can’t tell you how good this place is. I had a meatball mushroom melt and a quart of beer and it was fantastic. I ate it around lunch and wasn’t hungry for the rest of the day. Great atmosphere and quality Italian food. The Cadillac is good too, but the melt is where it’s at for me.

  • 2/5 Matt B. 1 year ago on Google
Ordered pizza that was extremely disappointing. It was definitely cooked earlier in the day and then reheated. Also they will accept Uber eats orders and then cancel them after you wait 20-30 minutes for your order. If you’re in little Italy there are tons of spots that are much better.

  • 2/5 Doug L. 1 year ago on Google
Two of us dined at what use to be one of our favourite restaurants in Ottawa’s Little Italy. We both had the chicken parmigiana with spaghetti meat sauce. This was priced at $30.95 The chicken was tough around the edge and dry throughout. No bun accompanied the meal like it use to. Had to ask for parmasean cheese. The restaurant part, Antonio’s, is closed so had to eat in the tavern side. With a litre of ‘house’ wine our bill prior to tip was $105.00. Unfortunately we won’t becoming back anytime soon.

Stopped by for dinner this evening. Had the meatball sandwich platter and spaghetti. Service was quick and friendly, the food was warming and comforting. The sauce reminded me of a homemade sauce. Portions were huge, the spaghetti was a half portion and that was alot! This might be my new favorite comfort food spot.

Gone are the days of reasonably priced quarts I guess. a]A quart of domestic beer is $14.63 (taxes in) before tip. What is worse is thatt he server did not explain when I ordered first quart that ordering pints would be cheaper. I ordered 4 quarts during my stay and my total bill was over $62! I have no sympathy for restaurants such as the Prescott who are gouging prices due to COVID. I will never return to this establishment.

Tried it for the 2nd time and wow this place deserves more than 5 stars. Tried the steak sandwich... the sandwich itself was amazing and the piece of steak was huge, not skimpy. Also came with a delicious broccoli soup, with choice of fries, mashed, or baked potato on the side... The food is real and great quality.

The Prescott is located in the heart of little Italy at the corner of 379 Preston st and Scott st. The Prescott is one of the oldest active taverns in Ottawa dating back to 1934, where it was called the "last chance watering hole" out of Ottawa to the south. There is a long tradition of purveyors of beer and wine frequent this establishment while eating the Prescott's meatball sandwiches. There have been many wedding receptions and patrons that have bent their elbows at the Preston. There is even a story where the Italian owners of the formerly named Preston Hotel were put into internment camps as part of isolating people of Italian origin due to conflicts between allied forces with Germany, Japan and Italy during the second World War. I like to go to the Prescott to pound back a few great priced draft beers prior to going to the comedy club across the road, Absolute Comedy. I have heard the Prescott has been sold so dont know what's going to happen to it. But while it is here, pop in, have a jug of draft beer, a meatball sandwich or a square pizza and breathe in some history at this legendary tavern. If you like this review please give it a thumbs up. Thanks and please drink responsibly.

There were several groups in the various venues in the Prescott Hotel. How to satisfy all those various groups and diverse drinkers and diners ? The way the Prescott does it. The menu choices were extensive, the beer and wine varieties were certainly sufficient and I heard no complaints from anyone. The soup and salad were excellent, the generous portion of excellent fish and chips and the various pizzas were thoroughly enjoyed by myself and everyone within my cohort.
