I went with my partner. She ordered a salmon, her dish was not cooked properly, it was almost raw. Another hand, the attention or waitress service it was really good, the woman was so nice and really polite. But the kitchen has to improve a lot, even my duck it was good, all the dishes has to be a good. also in my reservation I asked for gluten free options for my partner due to she is intolerant to celiac, but the options were limited.

Very good service. Our waitress was so friendly and was constantly checking on us through the experience. The food was good, but could be improved. I also would have liked more gluten free options on the menu.

I have heard good things about Absinthe for a long time and the reputation was well deserved! We started with Salmon and tuna tartare, and I must say the Salmon was the stand out winner!! I had the duck and was very impressed. My wife had the scallop pasta and very much enjoyed it especially the seasoning. I had the creme brule and very much enjoyed it. My wife had the mousse and found it very heavy like pudding and prefers lighter fluffier mousse. Our waiter was an absolute joy and was on his game the entire night and very pleasant. We had a fantastic evening thanks to Absinthe, highly recommend!

Visited tonight with our corporate group of 20+, everyone thoroughly enjoyed the dinner! We landed at this spot for dinner because they were surprisingly one of few restaurants that would accept a reservation of 20+ people on a Wednesday night. The food was delicious, portions were good, drinks were made well, and service was prompt. (Only downfall is that they have limited vegetarian options) Their salmon entree is a MUST-TRY! Had we not come here for tonight’s dinner, we likely wouldn’t have tried found this place… but I’d definitely recommend it!

Went here to celebrate my partners birthday and it was SO LOVELY! Service staff were so friendly, and our server, Mitchell, was really great. Our table was near the herb garden that the kitchen staff use for dishes. The food was ultimate in taste! And the cocktail I had was super tasty. Plenty of parking as well makes this place ideal for everyone to go and enjoy the happiness that you will surely feel from being there.

I want to start by saying how excited I was to be dining at absinthe Unfortunately, my experience was not pleasurable at all. Our reservations were for 6:15 PM December 13, 2023. We were a party of four. My husband and I were excited to try the tasting menu. $90 per person. It consist of three seafood appetizers followed by butternut squash soup the main was Beef Wellington. We didn’t want to ruin our appetites before the mains arrived. We shared our apps with our guests. I took about an hour to get out our little apps. Then another 30 minutes to get our bowls of butternut squash soup. The soup was so spicy I couldn’t take more than one small spoonful. My husband loves spicy food but could only finish a quarter of the amount. When the almost full bowls of soup went back to the kitchen. Nobody inquired if there was a problem. We then along with our guests, proceeded to wait another two hours before our mains came out. By this time, so hungry, I had a full-blown migraine. And was not able to eat a thing. While, the other quests ate their food I sat there. My food untouched again not a single staff. Member inquired whether there was a problem if I needed help, and I could not even get anybody’s attention. Not what you expect when you’re paying $90 for your meal. They simply came over picked up the empty plates asked if I’d liked mine to go. I replied yes because I simply love my neighbors dog. Very sad. Very very disappointing. Another thing to mention we were very close to the kitchen. I think that was our only blessing because it was so cold in there. We would’ve froze to death if we were near the doors.

The many years this restaurant has been around is a testimony to just how good it is. During our visit, we saw that for ourselves. Food was spot on in terms of flavour, presentation and the service was professional and friendly. Loved it and will certainly return. Bonus is that it is in our neighbourhood.

A nice, relaxed and calm atmosphere. Don't see a lot of place with it's own planters where the kitchen staff come and pick up their greens from. The service provided by Mitchell was very good and attentive ( thank you for that) and the food was perfect, the burger was juicy and perfectly cooked and the pasta amazing. Thank you for the hard work

It’s really tasty, well cooked, the portion are good because I finished every single things and it’s rare (lol). I loved the salad sauce, the meat was really good, and the mousse of the dessert had a good density ! + the cocktail are so good too. In fine, you should come you will not be disappointed!!

The food on the menu was delicious. They don't have a huge selection of dishes available however you can tell the items on the menu are what they specialize in. Also the menu changes from time to time but always has something for everyone.

My fiancee and I had an absolutely amazing experience while celebrating my fiancees birthday at Absinthe. From the immaculate food, to the wonderful atmosphere and the amazing staff. Everything was top marks. Huge shout out to Catherine, who was our server that evening. She is exactly what you want as a server at a restaurant. She treated us very well. We highly recommend this spot. We will definitely be going back again :)

These aren’t my photos although I wish they were. The food my husband and I got was nothing like it. I had talked up the burger so much as my husband loves burgers but unfortunately his burger was pale in comparison. Bun fell apart, and I don’t think there was bacon. He liked it but it wasn’t“as advertised”. The steak I got for my steak frites was sirloin. Had I known I would not have ordered it. I only ate half because it was too chewy. This is perhaps something the server could have mentioned and it was my bad for not asking. I realize that times are tough as I work in the industry myself but cutting too maybe corners makes for a regrettable experience. To top it off wines by the glass are way over priced. They could at least give 6oz for a $17 glass of wine.

I've been for lunch many times and food is always amazing. But... slow... do not go if you are in a rush to be anywhere as lunch will take a minimum of an hour (longer if you are in a group).

We celebrated my sisters 30th birthday for the 30th time. The service and food were outstanding. I looked around and saw that everyone sitting at the other tables looked happy also. Loved the set menu for large groups. Quality and selection were outstanding. The price was awesome also.

Came for lunch with my wife, and tried out their 3 course lunch for $30 which included an appetizer, main, and dessert. Food tasted great and atmosphere was good. It did get busy and service slowed down a bit, but I would definitely come again.

Went here with my family for a birthday and I must say the service was 10/10 all around, the waiter never let our glasses of water empty and walked us to the front door and even opened it for us as we left. The food was really good, as well as the drinks and nothing really took too long. They got a good amount of space between each table as well which makes the space feel spacious, giving you more privacy for conversation and making it more comfortable with covid. Definitely recommend for a nice, a bit more upscale night out!

There really isn’t anything bad to say about this place. Nice ambience and the waiters aren’t in your face. Their fresh bread was to die for ! The salmon I ordered was fantastic and well cooked. I almost wanted to order another one lol. Staff is great. Price is reasonable for what you get. Definitely recommend this gem.

I ordered the take out 3 course meals - Salmon for 2 and Steak for 2 - for an anniversary dinner with my folks and 10/10 would do it again. The food was delicious, well presented and just perfect for a special occasion to celebrate at home. Thank you Absinthe!

What an amazing experience for both food and service for our first time here! This place does not disappoint. Emily, our server, from the beginning was attentive, friendly, welcoming and ready to answer any questions. By far some of the best pasta, fondue, dessert and drinks we have had in a long time. We will definitely be back. Thanks to Emily, the staff and Chef for an exceptional time.

Great evening & fantastic food at Hintonburg’s Absinthe!! Buzzing bistro atmosphere, attentive and knowledgeable staff, locally sourced ingredients and a great wine list!! Our shared Pâté board was a hit with melt-in-your-mouth smoky duck speck! My main course pasta dish with morels was perfect. A delicious Dessert sampler with Chocolate Fondant, Ice cream filled Profiteroles and Crème Brûlé was a perfect ending to this enjoyable Absinthe experience!

A very solid duck breast accompanied by seasonal mushrooms and garnishes. I liked it so much I came back a second time and it was equally as good! I also enjoyed their mushroom bisque garnished with a beautiful basil oil. However, skip the desserts; they aren't good. The crème brûlée is burnt on top and the sugar layer is much too thick. Overall, the desserts are much too sweet and lack authenticity.

We opted for the four course tasting menu with wine pairing. Every course was delicious. We particularly enjoyed the seafood appetizer. Beef Wellington was cooked perfectly. The portions are generous. Service was well paced. Not slow but not too rushed.

Took an elderly relative for lunch here without knowing anything about this restaurant. We had a wonderful time. Service was professional, friendly, and personal. Menu had very good variety. We chose the lunches that included appetizer and dessert which was a good value. We had pasta dish and smoked salmon baguette. Food was excellent.

First experience here last week for dinner, taking the full course which is at a good price and plenty, enough to bring some portion home. Delicious and copious starter (snails and a large slice of pâté de campagne), excellent main course (boar and arctic char with fenel sauce and bouillabaisse) and desert (chocolate cake and profiterolles). We highly recommend and will come back.

I’ve been to this little gem of a restaurant many times in recent years and they have consistently exceeded my expectations. I opted for the three course meal as usual, with the meatballs as a starter (delicious but almost a meal in itself!) and the steak au poivre as my main. That horseradish aioli is to die for with those duck fat fries. Finally, no meal there is complete without a delicious crème brûlée, somehow I always find the room for it.

Service? Amazing. Dinner? Exquisite. Drinks? Hit the spot. Dessert? Utterly scrumptious. My sister and I went to Absinthe last night for a special (and in Covid times rare) night out. Although we live just down the street, it had been a while since we had last been to Absinthe. We were not disappointed. My soup was creamy and delicious, and my steak au poivre perfectly yummy and medium-rare. The maple creme brûlée was a sweet ending to a perfect dining experience. Our server made every effort to ensure anti-Covid protocols were adhered to, which is a re-assuring sign in these troubling times. Thank you for everything, Pat & staff.

Great Value, Great Food, Great Service. My spouse and I got some bad news so were having a rough day and decided to order in, as we were in no mood to leave the house we were trying to find delivery, luckily our first call was to absinthe and quickly after discussing delivery options the man on the other end of the line said "f*^@ it, I'll just bring it over"... turns out he was the chef and a little while later he was at our door with a fantastic meal and easy directions to ensure everything was perfect when we ate it. We had the prix fixe for two which basically lasted us for 2 meals, everything was delicious and it really made our night. Our heads were spinning that night, so I'm not sure we communicated our gratitude adequately but thank you so much for a wonderful meal and providing above and beyond service!!

  • 5/5 Dragan N. 6 years ago on Google
The menu is limited to a few items, but the food they serve is absolutely delicious. Great presentation. We were a group of 6 and everyone was pleased. I came for the experience, so to start I tried the absinthe - really tasty, and smoother then I expected at 68% alcohol. As starters, I tried to escargots, oh my, delicious. Followed by butter nut squash soup. As the main dish, I took the duck breast. All that paired with wine for each meal. Absolutely worth it and would recommend it to anyone. We came on a a Thursday night around 7pm and it was packed, so reserve ahead of time. The service was a bit slow, but worth it. The 3 course meal took about 3 hrs. The staff was knowledgeable and very friendly. The atmosphere is casual, relaxing, the decoration is plain, nothing special. No parking, but you can find free parking on the street.

We went there for an experience diner. At arrival, we are happily surprised to be welcome by a fully bilingual team!!!! We were able to live our whole experience in French (our first language) and it mades it so much more personal and enjoyable!!! Happy with everything we both order. Everything from drinks to entries to dessert was perfect. The drunken walnut is a fantastic drink.

I was a little disappointed that because we were a large group that they forced us to order from a set menu even though they were not all that busy, us and up to four other tables with 2-3 patrons. Plus my coworker wanted to adjust her meal a little bit but they couldn't accommodate. I don't normally get the soup and dessert, but they were going to charge me for it even if I didn't want it. I get that they are trying to make the service fast and efficient but I think that they should consider how busy the restaurant is and adjust this accordingly. At least they had our most favourite meal as an option the Steak Frite.

  • 5/5 Geoff H. 4 years ago on Google
A great chef-owned French restaurant in Hintonburg. The menu is small but the meals are done to perfection. The staff was fantastic and very knowledgeable of both the meals and the wines. The steak frites is probably their most popular meal, but check his website for other medal winning dishes. I recommend splurging on the peppercorn sauce if you go for the steak. Finally, you must do their 'Absinthe Experience' if it's your first time. I recommend the three-glass 'sampler' if you haven't had absinthe before. If, like me, you aren't big into the flavor of anise, go with their Czech as it's much milder.

It was one of the greatest restaurant experiences. Food was beautiful and delicious, portions of the three course meal was just about right and with desert and coffee gave us that satisfied + feeling. It was very stylish food presentation and veritable and complementing tastes made that food experience very especial and lasting. It is very fine cuisine and we spend time and money gladly. Also personnel was accommodating, nice, professional, giving us 'just enough' attention and guidance. We will be back for sure and we will be bringing our friends and family to share the experience. Thank you to all personnel and special admiration to chef!

My wife, my brother, his fiancée and I spent some time in Ottawa over the holidays. We decided to eat here because of the great reviews. Absolutely attentive staff! They asked if we had any other plans that evening and since we were going to the NAC later on, they paced our meal with perfect precision. Compliments to the chef. We ordered the Tuna Leche de Tigre Ceviche, the Squash Soup, the Steelhead Trout and ended our meal with a mix of desserts. Each dish was incredible with so many complex flavours and textures that complemented each other in perfect harmony. The skill of the chef was, by far, just as delightful and extraordinary as the orchestra we attended later on. Thank you for the wonderful holiday memories!

We live in difficult times. Today is our 48th wedding anniversary and we chose to bring Absinthe Cafe home with us. The marinated steak was perfect tough I overcooked mine a bit ( I am not yet a Master Chef but that is ok). the Ceasar salad, the fruit crisp, the foccacia bread all excellent! Patrick thank you for being part of our special celebration. All the best to you and your team. Good times will come back.
