This is one of my favourite parks in Ottawa. It is offers many spots for viewing great sites around the capital. The park has numerous monuments and points of interest. Over all there is plenty of sitting in the sun and other the shadow of a tree. Some corners of the park have flower arrangements.

Beautiful park with the best view of Parliament Hill from across the waters. Definitely a must visit if you want to take some nice photos. Lots of cleaning crews in the fall taking care of trees, leaves, putting away plants, etc, so you can see that this park is well maintained. Benches are available for sitting. Ideal place to stroll and watch the changing colours of the leaves in the fall.

Beautiful park offering great views of Parliament Hill. Located only 5 minutes walking distance from Parliament Hill, this place offers a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of Ottawa's city center. Apart from lush green vegetation it features a lot of historical monuments, statues and interesting maps and also an unobstructed view of Parliament Hill and the Rideau river. The park has a lot of seating and relaxing areas as well as large green meadows for people to play games or have a picnic. It is clean, safe and very well maintained. Public toilets are located on the north side of the park close to the National Gallery of Canada (inside are free toilets as well). The park's location between Parliament Hill (in the southwest) and the National Gallery of Canada and Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica (in the northeast) makes it an ideal midpoint to take a leisurely break while touring the city. During our visit, we encountered local volunteer guides wearing blue uniforms who graciously offered valuable information, maps, and helpful tips about Ottawa, adding an extra touch of hospitality to our experience. Visited on a Monday, July 2023.

Unreal spot to watch the sunset no matter what season it is. 🌅 as a tourist this was one of the best spots to hangout downtown and relax before sightseeing as it’s close to all the bars in Byward, the museums and parliament hill.

This is perhaps the crown jewel of urban parks in Ottawa (of which there are many to choose from). So close to everything, it’s perfect for picnics, people watching, festivals, watching fireworks, you name it!

My favourite park in Ottawa. You get amazing view of the parliament and the river. It is close to everything. If you're visiting Ottawa you definitely want to add this to your go to list after parliament. I imagine it's probably hard to find parking around though.

I’ve heard many people say Ottawa is one of the most boring world capitals in the world. Well I don’t think that’s fair to say because not all capitals are the same in the world. Ottawa is small by comparison with some other capitals but that said I find it far from boring. It’s clean and beautiful and has lots to offer. There are many many sites to see and enjoy. Major’s Hill Park is no exception. It’s a beautiful green space with great views all around and it’s in the middle of downtown and next to the Byward Market. Great views of the river and the Rideau Canal too. Can’t go wrong. 👍☺️

A beautiful green area situated in the heart of the city. You can go for a walk, have a picnic, enjoy the sun, walk your dog or just sit there and do nothing, you will definitely enjoy the vibe. If you are good with camera and like to explore, then this is the place where you want to be in.

The park is very peaceful and quiet. It is beautiful and has many different flowers. It also has a wonderful view of the Parliament Hill, Ottawa River and the Canal. It's nice to go for a walk/run along the river or go for a picnic and enjoy a laid back and relaxing time. It's a must-see in Ottawa.

It's a nice park to walk and enjoy a good view of the Parliament, Quebec border, and Rideau River. The park is well maintained, bunch of gardens with flowers and some signs telling visitors about the history of the place.

This is a nice park to visit anytime of the summer, especially during the tulip festival and during autumn. There is a lot of wide open space and even during busy weekends there is always space - though shade gets taken up quick. It can get a little soggy in the spring. There are terrific views of the Chateau Laurier, US Embassy, Notre Dame, and the Art museum.

Ottawa's oldest park is perhaps the most interesting park in the City with unrivalled views of Parliament, the Ottawa River and Chateau Laurier. If Sunsets are your thing, this is the place for you.

Super beautiful. Lots of green space and gardens. There’s a path that is right along the river as well. I’d recommend going during sunset because you have a view of parliament, the river, and the Québec side. You can also sit in the park and have a beautiful view of everything mentioned above as well! I’m definitely going to be frequenting that park!

Good pleasant park in the center of the capital city of Canada. You can reach park by public transit and offers you a view of parliament, Ottawa river, rideau Canal. You can see Gatineau from the park. Good for cycling, walking. Spend peaceful evening with friends or family. One of the best places in Ottawa to have picnic with family or friends. Weekends are bit crowdy, but weekdays are good time to visit. Great place to see fireworks during new year, Canada day or summer fireworks.

A Beautiful park in the heart of Ottawa’s downtown with green grass and vegetation. It overlooks the parliament’s hill, Ottawa river, last Rideau Canal lock, the landmark hotel Chateau Laurier and Gatineau. Safe for kids to play It also hosts many events.

The Park has a year-round-stunning appeal. It doesn’t matter the season you’re visiting, it’ll always amaze you. I suggest taking a stroll around the park until you reach the fence that overlooks the river and faces the Parliament. A worthy destination.

Lots of open space to walk around on the grass, pathways, or sit on one of the many park benches. Beautiful view of parliament and Ottawa river, especially at sunset. There is a little hill perfect for sledding in the winter and lots of space for dog-walking! The park is right by Byward Market, the National Gallery of Canada, Notre-Dame Cathedral, and Rideau Centre. Would definitely recommend checking it out if you are in Ottawa.

Major's Hill Park provides a nice view of the East Block of the Parliament Buildings, the Bytown museum, the Rideau canal and the Library of Parliament which is facing the Ottawa River. This Park was formerly named Colonel Hill Park after Lt Colonel John By. However, the name was changed to Major's Hill Park when Major Daniel Bolton replaced By in his governance's position. Major's Hill Park hosts lots of festivals and is especially popular during Canada day celebrations. In this park, there is a statue of Lieutenant Colonel John By who was the lead engineer responsible for the creation of the Rideau canal. In 1827 the newly developing site was named Bytown after Colonel By. Bytown's name changed to Ottawa in 1855. This Hill is owned by the indigenous Algonquin people. The Government of Canada's occupation of the land remains unratified by treaty agreement. If you like my reviews, photos or videos give them a thumbs up. Also why not ask the NCC to have the name of the park to either be changed back to Colonel Hill Park, or to Algonquin Chief Tessouat Hill. Who knows what Major Bolton did for Bytown other than live in By's old house on the Hill.

The kids loved the park. It's a lovely day to sit and have a picnic. The Cicadas are in full swing and the sun is teasing the air with warmth as we wander the path and head to govt buildings for fun!! Best 30 minute detour ever. Wife will be back for a nice date night. Already saw some places she would like. Awesome stop.

Perfect for fall foliage. I didn’t have a chance to walk around the park and discover every corner but I already love it. Just walked around from the parking lot and took few shots with the fall color and Parliament Hills in the background. Perfect place for biking and jogging. Or just simply a walk around. 😍 Only thing is the parking is quite bad. You have to download the app, can’t pay with coin, only flat rates and the road is really bad.
