Really nice to have such man-made and natural features readily accessible and developed for people to enjoy all year round. The waterway is quite interesting with various rock formations and the paths provide some interesting views. I’ve enjoyed running through the area going up one side of the waterway and back down the other. There’s a public washroom that’s only open during warmer months that’s useful too. Stop by and take a pic or a selfie - great backdrops!

A great spot to unwind, listen to the falls and walk amongst the lush vegetation…. A real gem in the heart of the city, minutes from downtown by car and steps from Vincent Massey Park and Carleton University. Easy access and plenary of parking along with easily manoeuvre able pathways make this a great spot for the whole family!

Hogs back is a great little park that is very nice and with beautiful natural beauty and very well designed facilities. Lots of parking and rest areas with bathrooms and a small store open at designated times. The natural beauty of the rocks and the water falls and locks make the water sounds and the visual movement of the water amazing. Even in mid summer it is a great place to stroll and to take amazing pictures with waterfalls and nature in the background. In the fall and early spring when the locks allow more water the waterfalls are more amazing and more picturesque for the camera enthusiasts. Big warning:. Unless you totally can control kids, do not take them there without keeping secured to you, yes with band or something like that. There was number of accidents that involve kids and even adults who were not carefully and get dangerously close to water.

Perfect place for a short loop - 20 to 30 minute stroll or walk! Feels like walking in a forest, lots of wildlife, and sound of nearby falls. The terrain is a little more strenous, would be challenging with strollers and very young kids but still manageable. Extremely pleasant nature space!

We spent a couple hours at the park and playground at Hog's Back Park while visiting Ottawa with our two young children, and it was awesome! The playground has so many different play structures and equipment for varying ages. It was also a quick walk to see the falls, which was definitely a must-do while visiting the city.

Great City Park! It really feels like you're in the middle of nature even though you're in the middle of the city. They had some really nice trails along the water. The park was very clean and then there was lots of parking.

Lovely park for a walk! Lots of benches for sitting and reading. Plenty of grass space for a picnic. Trails that go down to a creek. What more could you ask for?

Natural beauty in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Ottawa. Recommended to visit in the evening because the sunset view is just breathtaking. Remain careful and follow the guardrail since the water current is strong.

Hog's Back Park, a hidden gem in the heart of Ottawa. Beautiful scenery with lots of open space. A great place to picnic and spend time with family. Bike paths and walking paths with lots to explore. The Hogs Back Falls are so beautiful with lots of ducks and other birds to see up close. Although there is construction to repair the bridge and road, it is still quite assessable with plenty of parking. Washrooms are available at the main kiosk, of coarse social distancing is practiced here. This is truely an amazing place and I never tire of it. Very clean and well kept. People are respectful of each other and clean up after themselves. Nearby you can walk to Mooney's bay to take in a swim, lifeguards are on duty. So take the family out and have a wonderful day. Enjoy, Cheers!

it's like a little forest or nature in the middle of city. Just awesome place...I did not get much time to finish the trail hike because I was mesmerized by the beauty of the waterfalls...but the trail is well maintained with enough signs. There is description of the history of the park and waterfall...even while hiking there are small places side roads that lead to river where one can site and enjoy the flowing water...

During this pandemic, I have often been reminded about connecting with nature on a regular basis. I must say, Hog's Back Park has been one of my favourite spots in Ottawa. I usually prefer to go early in the mornings to avoid the crowds. It offers a variety of paths based on your physical ability and even has free and ample parking.

This place is perfect for watching the sunset. My friend and I chose to sit on the rocks because it was a lot more peaceful(less crowded) and, if you want yo feed the ducks, they are a few more of that side.

Beautiful place for a walk and to be in nature! The sound of the falls is so relaxing. Lots of free parking up to two hours. There are beaches if you want to sit and read a book, knit, relax, etc.... Definately a gem of a place in Ottawa!

Enjoyed a quick visit to the park. The waterfalls make some lovely scenery and the path following the river has plenty of greenery. Walking the length of the park was much quicker than expected, so it seems better for chilling than long walks. Lots of parking but also quite busy on a hot Saturday in August.

Such a beautiful park with a relaxing atmosphere given from the waterfall's soothing sounds. I enjoy exploring the area and love it when I spot different birds species on the rocks. Keep an eye out, they are sometimes hard to spot but they are there!

Beautiful waterfalls in the middle of the city. Truly unexpected. A testimony of the building of Canada. Human intervention on the natural landscape is not desirable. But these were other times and what we see today accounts for the construction of our incredibly beautiful, yet imperfect country.

Fantastic place for an easy walk. This park is connected to a series of parks along the river. Lots of viewing points and access points to the water. Plenty of small wildlife to observe.

Can't really complain about this park. They have a giant parking lot facing a beach that looks great in the winter and summer. There's a large park for children off to the side. There's also a narrow but long trail with lots of small areas to tuck away quietly to watch the river flow. They do have park benches along the way, but those are kind of crumbling and not the most reliable support structures. Paths are well maintained, but narrow and rocky enough to keep the hike interesting.

Always above place for a walk, but expect uneven outdoor surfaces if you want to venture around the fall or into the trail, there's also paved paths on the other side mainly, for a nice walk. Take the time to really look and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature, great place to explore different evergreen trees with youngsters to then take home pictures and try to research and learn the various beautiful types (and old alike who wish to take the time to explore too & don't know)... It would be lovely though, if these beautiful trees had some signage plaques, with their species name and a tad of brief info...

I went the Hog's Back Park with my son. There were many people enjoyed with their family or friends. The weather there was very good and the scenery was very beautiful. There were many locks on the barbed wire. It was like the locks in Namsan Tower in Korea. It's very funny to me.

Beautiful, well-kept small little park with a surprisingly active falls / rapids that stretches back in origin about 400 million years. Great place for a stroll or a picnic but if you really want to see the water rush through be sure to visit in March or April when the winter melt raises the water to dangerous levels. 💦

Pedestrians have to be very careful on the paths as bike riders don't always give a warning when they whizz by. Updated Oct.7, 2021 Gorgeous place to visit & see the falls & see the beautiful fall colours. Lots of things to see along the path that runs along the river.

The waterfall itself is beautiful but the bridge behind it is hideous, and ruins the otherwise nice scenery.

  • 5/5 Caroline L. 3 years ago on Google
The trails were beautiful and peaceful. Went in the morning on the weekend and it wasn't too busy so easy to maintain distance from others. The bridge is narrow as they are working on it. Bring your own waterbottle and wear comfortable shoes. There are benches / picnic tables and public washrooms available and open right before the bridge over the falls. They were a little busier but quite spaced out from each other.

Beautiful park area with lots of trail areas to walk, either by the water, or in the trees. Lots of grassy places to throw down a picnic as well. Even at busy times it doesn't seem overcrowded, except for in the parking lot. Parking is free though, which is nice. Trails extend out so you can even walk down to the beach or over to Vincent-Massey park.

Beautiful powerful waterfall, I really love to come here around sunset its gorgeous! Nice spot to relax with the sound of water, couple of people but people normally keep there distance and there's multiple bench to sit and chill/talk. Free parking up to 10pm and bicycle accesible. Here's some shot I captured with my Cellphone and my camera. Definitely worth a visit :)

I don’t care what anybody says about Ottawa being a boring capital city. For me it’s a quite beautiful town with lots to see and do. The Hog’s Back falls park is a treat. As if August 2020 they were doing some renovations in the area but it’s still pleasant to visit. The falls area is very cool to hang out at and enjoy the running waters. 👍☺️

Today, Hog's Back was quite dry and unimpressive unless you want to see rock formations. Not too many people there so, that was nice for keeping distance. We walked from Vincent Massey park and the colours of the season are in full. Nice walk within the city.

We are big cyclists and enjoy stopping at the park to fuel up and relax a bit before we are on our way again plus the view of the falls is wonderful

  • 5/5 Alex D. 3 years ago on Google
Bring birdseed and nuts. If you follow the path east from the falls you'll come to a split in the path and a bench on thr lower path. Stand in this area with seeds in your hands and birds will land on your hand to eat. Nuts will attract squirrels
