A visual wonder in the heart of Ottawa. A set of man made falls created during the construction of the Rideau Canal are the highlight of this place. The Lockstation with a guard lock (the only one built along the whole route of the Rideau canal) is a nice place for a picnic. An electirc-hydraulic swing bridge is also a cool thing to see in operation.

A great place for a stroll, especially if you go around to the Hogs Back Falls as well. Great in the summer time, especially in the evening.

Always a lovely place to stop to enjoy a rest in the shade, watch boats go through the lock, chat with the lock keeper, or have lunch. You might even see a unicorn.

On sunny days during spring and summer, it is a great place to spend some minutes watching the views and boats coming and going through the gates. Talking to the staff shows they have good knowledge of the place, its usefulness and how everything works.

Easily accessible lock, nicely maintained, with a picturesque little park beside the lock.

The locks at hogsback can be busy, but everything is kept in check. The grass is always maintained and Paul is always on top of making sure traffic gets through safely and efficiently.

Beautiful five star place to sit and have a lunch. However, -1 star since they charge per hour for parking with no short-term allowance (like having lunch).

Another great area to explore, relax at, and enjoy. A couple picnic tables with shade make this the perfect stop for a lunch/snack!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Hogs Back Lift Locks in Ottawa, which are part of the Rideau Canal, and I must say it was a truly remarkable experience. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the beauty and engineering marvel of these historic locks. First and foremost, the Hogs Back Lift Locks offer a unique opportunity to witness the impressive operation of a working lock system. As I watched the massive gates open and close, allowing boats to smoothly transition between different water levels, I couldn't help but appreciate the ingenuity and precision behind it all. It's truly a testament to human innovation. The location itself is absolutely stunning. Nestled amidst lush greenery and overlooking the picturesque Hogs Back Falls, the setting is nothing short of breathtaking. Whether you're a nature lover or simply seeking a peaceful escape from the city, this spot has it all. The sound of rushing water combined with the tranquility of the surrounding park creates a serene atmosphere that's hard to resist. Moreover, the Hogs Back Lift Locks provide a fantastic vantage point for observing the surrounding wildlife. As boats pass through the locks, it's not uncommon to spot various species of birds and perhaps even the occasional turtle or fish. It's a nature lover's paradise and a reminder of the incredible biodiversity that can exist within an urban setting. Additionally, the site offers excellent amenities for visitors. There are well-maintained walking paths and benches where you can relax and take in the view. Interpretive signage provides interesting historical and educational information about the locks and the Rideau Canal, enriching the overall experience. I also appreciated the accessibility of the Hogs Back Lift Locks. The pathways are wide and paved, making it easy for people of all ages and abilities to explore and enjoy the site. Whether you're taking a leisurely stroll or pushing a stroller, you'll have no trouble navigating the area. Overall, my visit to the Hogs Back Lift Locks was a memorable and enriching experience. It's a place where engineering brilliance meets natural beauty, offering a unique glimpse into Canada's rich history and the marvels of human achievement. Whether you're a local resident or a visitor to Ottawa, I highly recommend adding this gem to your itinerary.

Walking trails available along the river and through the wooded areas, free parking available for visitors. Benches lined along the trails overlooking some beautiful views of the river and the falls where you can seat and rest or read a book. Goood trails for running, biking, or just leisurely walks. Dog friendly

Hog's Back Rideau Canal Locks are currently undergoing renovations. Usually, it's a beautiful spot to visit right next to the stunning waterfalls and situated between Rideau Canal and Rideau River. The surrounding historical buildings are also interesting. It's a nice spot to sit down and observe surrounding landscapes and wildlife.

Of the 3 lockstations I visited in Ottawa this one came in 3rd. This one is nice, but the Hartswell and Ottawa lockstations are more photogenic imho.

(Translated by Google) A very nice place to take a walk, see the ducks and beautiful waterfalls as well as a part of the curtain canal that we don't usually know. (Original) Un très bel endroit pour prendre une marche, voir les canards et de belles chutes tout comme une partie du canal rideau qu'on ne connaît pas habituellement .

The bridge is an absolute disgrace. The railings are rusting away and everything needs some TLC . Whoever owns this is ruining an otherwise beautiful spot!

(Translated by Google) Lots to see, Mooney's Bay beach, parks and trails. Right next to the bike path that runs along the Rideau Canal. I do not recommend camping for cyclists (too much foot traffic). It is better the Long Island or Black Rapids locks a little further.

The Rideau Canal is a historic and pleasant waterway to see. And it’s very cool to catch one of the locks in use. 👍☺️
